I haven't opened a comic book since Jim Lee stopped drawing X-men and now he's making decisions over at DC?

Well, I'm out of the loop.

Why are those pictures smashed? How do you publish a blog post without fixing that shiat?

Seven heroes from the 31st century have traveled back to the present day. Their mission: Save their future from total annihilation.

Does every farking reboot have to start with time travel and a warning from the future?

It's up to the living avatars of war and peace to root out the hidden forces who look to plunge the country into a deadly civil war in HAWK AND DOVE #1. The exciting new series will be written by Sterling Gates and illustrated by legendary superstar comics artist Rob Liefeld.

Noooooooooooooooooo!

Christ, it's been almost 20 farking years and that jerk STILL can't draw human anatomy. Okay, there are feet and a refreshing lack of pouches, but what the hell is going on with Dove's torso? It looks like her left breast coming out of her armpit. And her hips have her charging to the right but the rest of her body is going left. WTF?

2011-06-08 11:36:11 AM
My guess would be a kryptonite needle and some ink.

Also, her pelvis seems to go all the way to her belly button.

My guess is that the artists spend a lot more time looking at naked men than they do naked women.

/not that there's anything wrong with that

So, they're pretty much bringing Black Lighting and giving him his own title? Somehow it's just not the same without the wide lapels and plunging neckline.

I can't wait for the new Batman by Jay Diddilo and Rob Granito. That's going to be some "legitomite" entertainment.

2011-06-08 02:13:36 PM
Eh, sounds retarded.

That means it fits in perfectly at DC, Home of "We want it to be 1970 again, and will ruin EVERYTHING to make our dreams come true!"

Although, given that the costume is so tight that you can make out the definition of each one of his abdominals... he ain't packin' much downstairs.

Easy

Green Kryptonite takes away his powers. Apply tattoo. Remove Kryptonite.

Heck, use a Kryptonite needle.

How do you think he became legendary? It's not from his good art. It's from his inaccurate physiology.

I'm stuck on Hawk's anatomy...

He looks like he's throwing his hands up in despair and not "lunging forward".
His left hand is much larger than his right.
The left part of his torso/back is seriously malformed.
His head is about two sizes two small.
Why does he have fangs?
The cape/wings/wtf they are are attached much lower on the left side than on the right.

Dove is even worse -- the armpit boob is particularly noteworthy.
Also, her left arm is positioned in an impossible manner. Her upper arm must have been amputated and her forearm attached to her torso.

I'm a terrible artist, but even I wouldn't try passing this crap off as "professional" and I would like to think that after YEARS IN THE INDUSTRY I'd be able to a handle on basic anatomy. If you're that bad, do the Alex Ross approach -- take some photos and use them as reference.

All I know is that Hawk and Dove have gotten the shaft for years at DC - it's only appropriate that Liefeld is doing the art.

No, Ross uses regular photographic references (mostly of friends and family), Liefeld uses what a 12 year old thinks is cool, and Greg Land is the one who has perfected the one handed, tracing from porn style of illustrating.

I say this is a marked improvement for Liefield. Another thirty years or so and he may show some real promise.

It was the first thing I noticed. I was ready to call bullshiat on Liefield being the artist just because they did have feet, the correct number, each, and more or less in the correct position and in proportion relative to the legs. More or less.

Yeah, any amount of phlebotonium could give Superboy a tattoo, I reserve my "BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!" for referring to working with Rob Liefield with enthusiasm.

How to give kryptonians a tattoo: deprive them of yellow sunlight for probably something like a few days. Then give the tattoo. Ta dah.

Wouldn't that tattoo be a bit of a giveaway of the old secret identity? Or does Clark never bare his arms?

It looks like the current clone Superboy with a twist. If it is he is a clone of Superman and Lex Luthor so he is much weeker then the original, with receding hairline.

Even more amazing- NO POUCHES!

Liefail still draws dudes that use more steriods than the whole WWE and women with a boob :: body ratio that makes Barbie seem like Raggedy Ann by comparison.

You know, I never thought I'd be glad for the endless parade of major crossovers and universe-wide reboots. But at this point, that particular form of crass commercialism seems to be the only silver lining here: it'll all be undone in two years at most. Maybe even less.

I was never a fan of DC, but isn't this like the 5th time they've rebooted everything, and doesn't that ALWAYS screw continuity up for years afterwards?

You're talking about Static? Different guy there, not quite as old school as Black Lightning. I used to collect Static comics back in the day.

He's not Clark - Superboy is secretly Conner Kent, a clone of the original Superman (at least he was - who know what the reboot will do).

But you make a good point.

Gonad the Ballbarian: The same reason Superman's foster mom could cut and sew his impervious super-baby-blanket into a costume...

Actually, she didn't. Originally, his costume was woven from thread Superboy provided by unraveling his blankets with his heat vision. John Byrne's reboot established that his costume is regular cloth, but Superman himself projects a force field very near his body that protects his costume (but not his cape). This was used to justify the fact that a dowdy middle-America rural housewife created for her son a garish, decidedly immodest skin-tight costume (with the underwear on the outside, no less).

/Why yes, I am something of a geek. Why do you ask?

How does superman shave and cut his hair? Heat vision off a mirror can't be that accurate.

Speaking of Superboy. According to some very reputable sources on the internet, under the guise of John Newton, Superboy mated with earth woman Kate McCallister to produce child star Macaulay Culkin.
