Jogger sounds like a former passenger on the short bus.

You have angered the school bus.

A teacher from one of my old high schools died from a similar accident.

He was pedalling his bike along Rt 313 (cutting through Ft. Knox), and ran into a parked semi. He must've been hauling ass. Even more impressive, he was going up hill. A long, and not terribly gradual slope.

FTFA: No charges were filed.

Just curious what charges the reporter assumed would have been filed in a case such as this. Child molestation for rear-ending a school bus full of kids?

Here's a question:

Why are there no steat-belts on school buses?.

I don't know what's more remarkable, that someone reported this or that WXII actually ran it.

Are you serious?

It's too late. You've awakened the school bus. It catches you and eats you.

2011-06-06 08:24:09 PM
Could be worse - it could have been a fire truck.

2011-06-06 08:24:32 PM
He will get up out of the hospital, and file a suit for pain and suffering and emotional trauma because he can no longer stand the sight of the color of a school bus. He wins 3 million dollars.

Jaywalking?
Reckless endangerment?
Criminal mischief?
Destruction of public property?
Trespassing?

I've done the same thing to a tree on my bike just last year. They really should train these trees to move.

How much attention do you not have to be paying to RUN into the back of a parked school bus? I mean, GOOD GOD people, you cannot run, text, listen to your iPod and watch TV at the same time, and this is why.

Sounds like one of those "Mayhem" ads.

my wife is disabled so we have a handicapped placard. we go to vegas, stay off strip so we rent a car (we won't do that again). parking at any of the casinos means you must penetrate the inpenetrable sidewalk crowds to get in/out of the garages. since the traffic is so bad this is a challenge. so we see a break in the crowds but the traffic is stopped so now we're in the sidewalk. ever see one of those nature shows where a stream of ants just goes around some obstacle? yeah, that was us. some jackwagon is so into whatever he was doing (I think a conversation with his buddy) that he WALKED INTO the DRIVER SIDE DOOR.

Best is he then yells at me for blocking the sidewalk.

not knowing if he was drunk or high or jsut an asshole I resisted the urge to point out what a twatwaffle he had to be for walking into a non-moving car that was directly in his field of view.

Yeah, school buses never move. They just idle to clog traffic.

So he died because he was too fit? Ironic.

Anything able to go fast won't do much to a school bus, and the thing itself moves 20mph when filled with kids.

Man, did you not ride the bus when you were a kid? I had bus drivers that could hit 20 before they were out of the parking lot and literally made sport (that we admittedly enjoyed a lot) of bouncing the kids in the back row off the roof going over bumps and small hills.

I had a whole series of bus drivers in grade school that made the trips to and from school periodically awesome and sometimes terrifying.

Plus it's more fun that way when the bus flips over or goes off a cliff. Little bastards screaming and flailing their little arms before they go flying all over hell. That's how I'd want to go.

Hypothetical Imperative: Man, did you not ride the bus when you were a kid? I had bus drivers that could hit 20 before they were out of the parking lot

Yes I did; either you were lucky or I was not. My bus drivers drove like helicopter parents were breathing down their necks, and now I commute through a neighborhood infested with buses that seem to have a 20mph limiter.

Until you are have ridden in a vehicle with capacity 66 kids, actually carrying about 80, going 70mph down a dusty Virginia cowpath on a 102 degree day in order to desegregate the 5th grade ...you haven't truly learned to hate the government yet.

My wife went to school in Knox county Tennessee and thought that this was a particularly insightful and witty comment. She requested that I offer you one internet, though I'm not entirely sure she knows what that means.

Yeah unless he broke his neck after the fall, reaching enough speed on the uphill to lethally impact a semi seemed odd to me as well.

As a pedestrian, he should have been on the sidewalk. And if there was no sidewalk, running into the back of it means either he or the bus was on the wrong side of the road.

CygnusDarius: Here's a question:

Why are there no seat-belts on school buses?

It's called "compartmentalization." If 18 inches is all the further you can fly, and that's into a (relatively) soft seatback, you won't be as badly injured as if you, say, fly through a windshield face-first. Kind of the same principle as with air bags.

Plus, 30-40 little bastards, seatbelts, and one lone adult who's busy driving means whippings for the weaker and more annoying children.

We actually had a bus with seatbelts when I was a wee lass. They lasted about a day and a half, IIRC, and the district never tried that pricey little experiment again.
