So now they're pushing the Kinect as a voice recognition device? Good job developing a revolutionary motion controller and reducing it to a microphone. Lame.

Again, WHY DOES THIS REQUIRE KINECT?

It's just voice rec....why can't I do this with my normal headset?

No to pee in XBL's cheerios...but she was on a headset...I'm sure it's possible to do that, but then you can't dish out the $140 for the Kinnect, now can you?

GLove88mph: Only game i've been excited for in a long, long time.

Add me to this list. Me and my GF cannot wait for this to come out. Thankfully, Infamous 2 comes out tomorrow, so that should keep us busy until November.

It's cool tech. It just doesn't interest me... I guess I'm too old and set in my ways. My son seems to like Kinect a whole lot.

If you want to get rid of your cable subscription, and plenty do... then MS just answered your prayers. Now you only have to get the broadband feed.

Yeah I bought one at launch and my PS3 has mainly been a Blu-Ray player. The Uncharted franchise is fantastic...but that's pretty much my entire argument for owning a PS3.

How about anything about a possible Borderlands 2?

Looks like it will have Kinect compatability.

Interesting, hopefully you won't have to act out your movements. I barely have enough room to use the kinect in my house as it is. I also hope it is optional and not required.

Local IP providers (Comcast is pretty much only broadband other than DSL in Houston) are countering this "problem" already by raising rates, and then charging an even higher rate if you don't buy their cable TV service.

Comcast charges $39 for standard broadband, but if you don't have CTV, it's $69

Seriously? Mine gets a ton of play as of late, Sony's been on a role game wise the last few years. Between it and my PC, my 360 became pretty much redundant. Most any good 360 game had a superior PC version.

I've seen numerous Farkers comment that they have given up cable tv in favor of going full Netflix. Internet only. The target audience does exist.

Shadowknight: I am in Spain, and they are using Hulu for their streaming. Hulu, being dicks, exclude us military folks living overseas.

This, bought both 360 and PS2 when they came out. Kept the 360 and sold the PS2 in less than a year.

Rift is an MMO completely on rails, you go from quest hub to quest hub, with usually only one quest hub suitable for your level in any given zone. You can branch out a bit, but basically its just chore-boy stuff in each zone until you're ready for the next one. Very little choice in the path you take and very little replay ability. That plus they amped the exp up to about 2x what it should be, so most of the stuff you can buy is useless by the time you can buy it.

Shrugging Atlas: Speaking of video games, anyone here play Rift? I just picked it up last night and am planning on firing it up tonight. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I'm greatly enjoying it, myself. Really like the rifts and world invasions as a change of pace from constant quest-following.

Don't hold your breath.

I'm an Old Fart and from my point of view, the last really fun game to be released was Conker's Bad Fur Day. I've played a lot of stuff since then but nothing has made me laugh that hard.

Bought a PS3 a year ago, played a couple of hours of ONE game on it and it hasn't been turned on since.

Have you played Psychonauts? I think you'd enjoy it. Not as dirty as BFD, but hilarious and fun all the same.

Shrugging Atlas: Quantumbunny: Shrugging Atlas: Speaking of video games, anyone here play Rift? I just picked it up last night and am planning on firing it up tonight. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I do. Quite enjoyable. Got to 50 (cap) in about 3 weeks, still been doing stuff for a month, not tired of it yet. Haven't made another character, so I'm not sure how replayable the content will be, but I'm hopeful.

Cool. One more question if you don't mind: Within the classes, say cleric, is there any reason you shouldn't pick souls that are different. Like can you pick a Judicator and then one of the pure healing souls as your second? Or are the skills somehow linked so that you have to or at least should pick similiar souls (like all offense, or all healing)?

I've done a bunch of research over the weekend but can't really seem to find a definitive answer to that from someone that actually plays the game. I had it in mind to have the first soul be an offensive cleric and the second a healing/defensive type for groups. Just not sure if that's a horrible idea.

You can mix and match any souls you want, but some soul combinations have more synergy than others. The nice thing is you can make just about anything work if you're willing to adapt your playstyle to the build, and you will always be able to make a build that can suit your playstyle.

Also keep in mind that you can have up to 5 different roles, which means you can have 5 different combinations of any 3 souls that you can switch between out of combat with just a 3 second cast time.

On my cleric, my grinding/open world spec is heavy Inquisitor, with secondary Purifier and a splash of Sentinal. Normally, two healing souls would indicate a support cleric, but my points are allocated to turn it into an AOE farming machine with enough heals to keep myself up chain pulling 5 mobs at a time. In this case, Pur and Sent serve to compliment the main Inquisitor line.

Conversely, my dungeon healing spec has an even split between Purifier and Sentinal, with 0 points in Warden. In this case, I allocated my points so Pur and Sent compliment each other and create a very powerful healer with no offensive capabilities.

Looks like Microsoft is trying to keep catering to their main demographic, college males, while still trying to pimp the Kinect to them.

Gears of War, Call of Duty, Ghost Recon, interactive UFC...

Trying to shoehorn Kinect into everything isn't going to work, and making it the only way to play really doesn't work. The Ryse game they saw looks like King's Field without a controller, which will get VERY tiring fast.

2011-06-06 01:27:51 PM
So another on rails game for Kinect eh?

Looks like the limitation we saw a year ago is still in effect: there is no way to fully be the controller in a non rails game, because there is no way to navigate.

Did they say Kinect's the only way to play them? That seems pretty stupid if they actually made the games unplayable without a standard controller.

They're all Kinect compatible. Very few are Kinect exclusive, because they don't want to alienate the wide majority of 360 owners who don't have a Kinect.

HawgWild: New Fable game?!

I am shocked, SHOCKED that Lionhead and Microsoft are trying to milk an original game for every penny while failing to update or expand any of the gameplay of the first 2. No new enemies for the most part, same gameplay throughout, and pretty much the same story retold in different eras. Fable 3 felt exactly like 2 with slightly better graphics.

You mean like Dance Central? There are games that are designed just for Kinect... Ryse looked like one of them. But my opinion still stands... pushing Kinect onto games not designed for it is similar to making movies 3D that weren't filmed especially for it. It just makes for a watered down - or worse, broken - experience.

/Kinect Star Wars looks seriously lame...

Ugh. Kinect controls for Star Wars look laggy and disappointing.

2011-06-06 01:36:13 PM
I will have to jump on the ME3 bandwagon too. ME2 using the ME3 engine on PS3 was amazing. I have never played such a perfect blending of an FPS and an RPG. I also had Shephard bang ever female on the ship possible, which was a bonus.

2011-06-06 01:36:55 PM
That Star Wars game makes the prequels look good.
