Could have easily been the guy in the next apartment shooting his old lady that woke her up to find her car being broken into.

Legalize headshots?

I'm sure if the car thieves would have heard gunshots they would have been gone before she looked out the window. Most of those guys are pussies.

Endeavour has been promised to the California Science Center in Los Angeles; Discovery will find a home at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.; Atlantis will be displayed at the visitor center at Kennedy Space Center; and the test vehicle Enterprise will be moved to the Intrepid Air & Space Museum in New York City.

Once again, I get the euphoric opportunity to say "SUCK IT, TEXAS!!"

Actually, my line of thinking here is that possible ANY noise occurring at this moment may have woken her in time to call the police.

This story, already tottering on the edge of a non-issue, probably would have never gotten wings if she had slept through the sonic boom. Other than some blurb in a police blotter about a women who reported her car stolen sometime after midnight.

Curious: MaudlinMutantMollusk: Yet ANOTHER benefit derived from the space program

this

ONLY if the sonic boom had been a calculated act on the part of the astronauts to alert the owner of the car robbery in progress.

If it were possible to inventory that same evening's events, one may seen a couple of murders that were successfully carried out, several barking their shins and tripping in the dark, a fall in the shower, a couple of under aged girls being broken into the wonderful world of prostitution, someone dying from an over dose of crack, and several medical emergencies.

All of which may have been playing out as that BOOM occurred.. End the Shuttle Program now!

/Still amazed that anyone would see a random event as intentional.

2011-06-04 05:41:49 PM
10 or so years ago when the shuttles were going into space fairly regularly the sonic booms would wake me in the middle of the night pretty often, and the windows would rattle and so on. I thought it was so cool that I could say to myself "just a space ship returning to earth, no big deal", and go back to sleep. Too bad those days are about gone.

I find myself pining away for the week after 9-11 where there no aircraft in the sky, whatsoever. Too bad we couldn't commemorate 9-11 annually with a few no-fly nights in honor of those who died.

Because Obama wants your car to get stolen so you have to buy a new car from Government MotorsTM and help further his socialist agenda... duh!

In the Florida Criminal Justice System the people are represented by three separate, yet equally important groups. The police who investigate crime, the District Attorneys who prosecute the offenders, and the Goddamn BatShuttle. These are their stories.

Dear Jerk: Would a sonic boom miles away be as loud a bark on my bed? Because my dogs have done the same tang. And at a much lower cost.

The breaking of the sound barrier makes a sound that's really hard to describe to someone that hasn't heard it. Imagine hearing a shotgun blast from about 3 feet away shielded by a sheet of plexiglass. It's not all that uncommon for them to shatter windows.

I grew up out by where they used to land the shuttle in California. I remember hearing 3-4 sonic booms in rapid succession any time the shuttle came in.

Well you said "ass" and "your" so your geekiness is in question.

If the "ship" was 1000ft long I might buy your answer..but TFA said they were about a second apart.

You know, I know you're just being a silly troll.... but for those who actually DO think Obama is killing the shuttle, might want to watch a few recent interviews with Charles Bolden.

Shuttle is being retired because it doesn't fit their future mission profile. They want payload responsibilities moves to private industry while NASA focuses its budget on deeper space exploration (Mars etc...)

When the shuttle was first designed, they assumed a 2% failure rate. Do the math. They actually beat that stat.
