Father_Jack: lie down on your fat belly turn your john deere baseball hat on backwards and hit a man sized target 4 times out of 5 over iron sights,

I don't see much of a problem with this at anything under 400 yards. Personally, I like trying to put 10 rounds through a quarter sized hole at 100 yds, bench, sandbag, scope 'n all

The way I look at it, if someone's exercising their 'gun control' by having fun making holes in targets, leave 'em alone. They could be thinking about other types of 'gun control'.

/The county is debating opening a 1,000 yd range w/skeet & trap as well

lie down on your fat belly turn your john deere baseball hat on backwards and hit a man sized target 4 times out of 5 over iron sights, you fat ass bubba. this high tech bench shooting has as much to do with real marksmanship has using compound bows with sight pins and stabilizers and release doohickeys has to do with how the english did it against the french at crecy with the long bow.

Although the sighting has already been mentioned, there are other good reasons.

Longer ranges frequently have metal plates to shoot at. It is a PITA to haul powerful sighting scopes out to check where on the paper you are at ranges beyond 50 meters. A typical midrange optic can still see the holes at that range, but you would depend on a separate high powered scope/spotter or the sound of metal plates to confirm accuracy as you reach out further. Greater distances also dramatically increase cease-fire times if you have to retrieve your targets. 50M is still manageable by range chiefs. All of this is important because you want your first shot to be accurate - the deer (or other target) is unlikely to give you a second chance if miss.

Cpl.D: Hit a Man sized target at 500 yards with mere open iron sights. Reliably and repeatably. That's the Marines for you.

i'm not reliable at that range with my collection, but can do so with two rifles: the Swiss K31 (very consistently) and the German K98 (kind of consistently... but the surp ammo i put thru it may be more of a problem than the rifle)

wmoonfox: scottydoesntknow: I just picked up one of these at the most recent gun show in town:

How does it feed? I've heard good and bad...

Any problems with the trigger assembly? Have always thought having it so far forward would make the action feel kinda sloppy.

When you first pick it up, it's a biatch to load the bullets in the clip, very resistant. But after a couple rounds it's very easy. Never had a single issue with the feed. And the trigger assembly is very comfortable, more so than firing other rifles. I'm a lefty, so the fact the gun is completely ambidextrous was a major plus for me too. There is virtually no recoil with that gun either. To be honest it's my favorite gun and I love every piece of it. Hell I was watching Equilibrium and saw that out of all the crazy modified weapons they have on there, the two guards holding P90s in a scene were completely unaltered except for a sight addition. It's a fun futuristic looking gun.

BravadoGT: Did you pay less than $1K? They are still kinda pricey around here. And don't get me started on the ammo! You can buy Hornady, or....you can buy Hornady. (I've got the Five-SeVen) It's a great round--too bad it's not more popular.

Paid $1,300 for it, Fabrique was offering it online for $1,499 so decided to buy it at the show. The EOTech was $300. So far I'm completely satisfied with it and wouldn't buy anything else EXCEPT the FN Five-SeVen pistol, that thing is a beauty and there's rumors they're gonna stop making them soon. Just don't have another $800 to drop on a pistol right now.

And yea I'm also a little worried about the 5.7 shells. Went to Carter's Country after buying the P90 and they had 2 boxes left. Asked them when they'd be getting more and he said he didn't know if they'd order them again, just not enough demand. Purchased 500 rounds in bulk online for $170 after hearing that.

Father_Jack: oooh nice lookin' p90! i've only fired one of those once, it was amazing how light it was. it was weird to me, though, how close the grip and trigger was. was fun to shoot tho.

now, sighting in is one thing, dialing out a scope or whatever at that kinda range is one thing... but... man. i've just seen so many dbags high five eachother because they hit a watermelon at 50 yards, like ist an achievement or something.

for me its all about mid to early 20th century c&r stuff that begins at 300 yards. The 7.62x39 and nato counterpart just arent quite as fun to me as the old full sized 7.62 and 8mm rounds...

Thank you very much. It's scary how light that gun is, especially considering the complete lack of recoil.

And yea wasn't trying to sound like a dick with "chase em down and rip out their throats" comment. I understand completely where you're coming from with those guys hitting targets at pitiful distances and acting all proud. I've got a .22 magnum that I like to take to my buddy's ranch. I'll take those little red russet potatoes and set the up along a fence post about 250 yards out and just plink away. 100 yards is alright with a .22 mag, but 250 is a fun challenge.

The closest 50 yd range to me is less than an hour away. The closest outdoor/100+ yd/shoot whenever and wherever I want range is nearly three hours away, closed basically every other day, and so full of people that I've had to wait in a line to shoot. That's why. Some of us live in concrete jungles and don't have the benefit of year-round free range shooting.

Its the ammo. I have an old Argentine 1909 Mauser that was re-chambered to 30-06 and it shoots factory ammo like ass. I cast my own lead for it at .314 diameter instead of .308 and it now puts everything in a quarter sized hole at 100yds if I do my part. Still use the iron sights on it, but I'm getting older and my eyes are getting worse. I will have to scope it soon to keep shooting it at longer ranges.

Casting or buying lead bullets and reloading is the only way to keep the cost down, especially on old Mil-Surps and odd calibers.

I have started my garage based business selling lead bullets and I offer reloading services to the local area. EIP if you are interested. Website is still under construction though. I eventually plan on getting an 06 FFL to sell loaded ammo off the shelf and a full line of reloading supplies.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking too. Exactly who was the brilliant mind who designed the offices on that side of the pistol shooting range? Actually it's smart to put that Deli in there. Mom brings little Johnny in for a two hour gun safety course / hunting training course why not offer her a place to give you yet more money for food/drink while she waits? Same goes for people waiting on classes, gun repairs, firing lane openings, etc.

Put an EOTech optical sight on it which is good for around 50 yards. There's no point in sighting it in for anything beyond that. Plus the bullet only suffers about a half an inch drop from 50 to 100 yards.

I love that thing. I love the 5.7 round, I love the functionality of the PS90, I love the fact I can use the ammo in a 5.7 pistol to reload my PS90 (if i had to). Most of all I love how much fun this is to shoot. This weapon alone makes me want to change the CA laws on low capacity mags and weapon length.

Please FN make a PS90 CA version that is 2 inches longer. I hate having to weld fake silencers on these things to make them CA length.
