RedT: Sorry, but I side with the women.
Walking around a jail full of men braless while holding you underwear in your hands IS sexist, demeaning, and embarrassing, but also potentially dangerous and disruptive.

Also, the whole bra wire = shiv defense 's since they were allowed to keep their bras, they just weren't allowed to wear them. WTF? Fo'real!

You really trust the slack jawed prison guards to tell woman they have to remove their bras? Really? Really??!!1!

I will not even go get the mail without a bra on. Many women would be embarrassed to have the girls flopping around without support around people they don't know.

And remember these women did not do anything wrong, they are not in jail even if they are trailer trash, or poor, or assumed criminal by association.

Would you want your mother or sister in this situation when they come visit you?

Finally, they tried to pull this shiat with female defense attorneys in the beginning of the year and got slapped down for it. It is simply unacceptable.

They should have been smart enough to not wear a bra with an underwire in the first place. Especially the attornies. Personally, I think they should have just been denied access. Being given the choice to go in braless is almost a curtesy. They shouldn't have to carry it in though. Leave it in a box behind the counter or something.

You know all those hottie pictures everyone keeps posting? most of those women are wearing underwire something-or-other to make them look like that.

Or else they have their head thrown back, or their arms up, or one of those other things you do to keep your boobs all perky and lovely. (Or they're just plain fakes.)

I know, I'm a lot of fun at parties.

So what you're saying is they only look good because they're trying to make them look good? How is that a problem?

dragonchild: But I can't pass off wrongdoing as a "mistake".

mis·take
[mi-steyk] noun, verb, -took, -tak·en, -tak·ing.
-noun
1. an error in action, calculation, opinion, or judgment caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge, etc.

Sounds like a reasonable synonym for "wrongdoing" to me... It doesn't necessarily mean it was done accidentally; just that you shouldn't have done it... I may make a poor chess move that loses me a game; it certainly wasn't an accident that I made it; I fully intended to make the move; it was just a mistake to make it, because I didn't see the checkmake coming...

I fly all the time, I have been to jails and courthouses on numerous occasions (as an attorney) and have never had my bra set off a metal detector and I haven't owed a wireless bra since I was 13.

I don't know why any women would assume that her bra would set off a metal detector. Braces don't, fillings don't, my watch doesn't and neither does my wedding ring. Oh, yeah, and my bra doesn't . . . unless apparently I visit the Prince George County lock-up, where I can't wear a dangerous bra, but I can carry it around with me.

And I hardly consider some idiot security guard offering to have me remove my bra a courtesy. Ever. Although I might consider it sexual harassment.

Being the owner of neither a bra nor boobs, I assumed (yeah, yeah) that they would pretty much always set the detector off. My point was that if you know there's going to be problems, you should plan accordingly. If it really is just this one place that has a problem, then they should be letting visitors know ahead of time. Either way, I don't see why there needs to be a lawsuit. You do have a point about carrying it with you. That just makes no sense.
