We unplugged it for now.

First we got rid of Hulu Plus.
Now we're--well, he is, I'm not--XBoxing.
It's just a BluRay player, after all.

I got that timely Cinco de Mayo costume for LBP.

It's back up! Just in time for me to send my PS3 in for service. Again.

Whoo.

Meh.

The only thing I miss about my PS3 is Netflix.

Oh... wait... the Blu-Ray player I bought with my trade-in credit supports Netflix. What I meant to say was "fark Sony in the left eye socket, there's nothing I miss about my PS3 or any of their craptastic products". Sorry, sometimes I misspeak like that.

Netflix was never down. It prompted you to log in but after three tries it continued on. I watched plenty of netflix movies while PSN was down.

Nope...Splinshints is here as usual...

I'd rather see the follow up article: "PSN service has been uninterrupted for a month."

It's been up and down at all random points the past 3 weeks, let's have a little consistency before declaring it fully restored.

Well, I thought about coming in and biatching about products I used to use on a network I used to log into, but I'm all biatched out after the Politics tab.

Before anyone freaks out about the Welcome Back games not being free at the moment, that is something that will be rolled out soon. Don't know why with the XMB notices and the messaging system on PSN that they only update this information on the PSN Blog, but there you go. It'll be an update in the near future.

Where do you find the free games? I was in the store last night -- first time I've been able to get in the store since before Portal 2 came out -- and looked around but couldn't find anything.

Netflix was down for me. I hit log in about a dozen times before giving up. The three tries to log in let me see my queue but I wasn't able to watch anything. Then again Netflix and online gameplay has been back for two weeks, only the store has been down

A few other people I know say that worked for them too, but I never got it to work. Closest I ever got was into my queue once and then when I tried to start anything it failed back out to telling me it was having trouble signing me in. One of my friends said they were able to skip the login at first, but then after a few days it stopped working for him too.

I just used the Wii instead. It was nice to finally use it for something again.

i don't think, at anytime in the last month or so, Sony has said the entire network was back up...they have been doing it piece by piece...

I think they are still getting those ready, i.e. making sure the store is stable enough to handle millions of simultaneous downloads.

My favorite part of xbox fans talking trash is the fact that Live went down for 2 weeks back in 2008(2007?). The fans conveniently "forgot" that while they will always remember the PSN outage and make fun of it.

I love the PS3 because it does everything I want it to do (games/blurays), has nice exclusives (i'm a big Valkyria Chronicles+Disgaea+Uncharted fan), and PSN is free. (6 years of 360 has cost xbox fans $300 minimum). Sure I can't talk to my friends via voice chat cross-game, but I'm always on ventrilo when I play on my PS3 (since I use my PC monitor to play PS3), so personally I don't miss the feature.

I don't own a 360 because all the games I would want to play on it (which arent on PS3) are available on my PC, not to say it's a bad system if you don't own a PC that can run said games, but again, the upkeep of XBL does add up over time, costing more then the console itself. Most, if not all, of XBL's features are free on Windows Live, so it's not like it HAS to cost money for the features.

In the end, everyone in the PS3 vs 360 debate are all still gamers, enjoy playing your games without trying to make your system sound better. Each system has some flaws, but even if they were both perfect, you guys would find something to complain about. Play games, have fun.

/I can dream that one day people will stop the "X is better then Y" debate, but it will never happen.

1. Try to log into PSN on PS3
2. Forget password
3. Try every password ever
4. Click "Forgot Password?" button
5. Click link in email sent from Sony
6.

May favorite part is when people try to compare a two week sporatic outage because of server overload to a major security breach.

Valkyria Chronicles is awesome though. I picked it up just last week for $15. Not that great at these tactics games though so I can actually play through it.

Because Windows based systems never have security problems? Scoff as you might, but almost the entire history of MS has been a security breech.

Are we moving beyond console network outages and into what bad things the companies have done to it's customers? Because I wasn't arguing that somehow Microsoft was a better company, just that comparing the Xbox Live outage to Sony's recent issues is comparing two completely different issues. As companies they both dick around their customers as much as they think they can get away with. I was just saying don't compare apples with oranges, and you for some reason brought up bananas.

1. Mine data from high profile target who ignored flaws presented to them months in advance
2. Blame internet group that has no representation

4. Profit...?

Well, that was an outage that affected some players and some regions whereas others were fine, and for the most part was resolved in just one week.
People got a free game out of it. A shiatty game though.

I have yet to see Microsoft have a security breach on par with Sony's (in regards to Xbox Live) though.

Server overload over Christmas time (since every kid and their brother) got a 360 does not equate Sony having shiatty security, getting hacked, losing customer info, and having their network down for, what, a month and a half?

I mean, if those two things are the same to you, you sound like the type of guy who would equate slavery to having to stand in a line waiting for food at McDonalds.

RoxtarRyan: Server overload over Christmas time

I thought it started on or was around the time of December 12, long before Christmas.
Even still, Half-Life 2 level outages are always a black mark on a software company.

MS had nowhere near the hubris of Sony though MS never really had a similar scenario presented with the 360 in which to act.
Maybe RROD?

I think it was the Christmas Halo 3 came out... Anyways, even with the RRoD issue, MS did what they could do to repair it and ship it back as quick as they could to the customer. Unlike Sony, who would charge for their YRoD repairs, and if they got a PS3 that could play PS2 games, there are people who got back a different unit, farking the customer over twice.

MS denied there was an issue for a long time, same with the stationary-console disc shredding. That's what I'm referencing.
Then they did the right-ish thing.

Of course, threatening to cancel XBL can get you all sorts of goodies regardless of how the company is feeling. :]

"You may have noticed that the LIVE service has been having a few issues over the past few days. This includes things like signing in, matchmaking and account recovery. Not everyone has had problems, but I know some of you have and I wanted to give you and update. While the service was never completely offline, problems like this are not acceptable. The entire LIVE team has been working day and night to ensure that you can have a great LIVE experience. While we're not done yet, I wanted to let you know that things are getting better each hour and that no one on the team is going anywhere until the job is done. Thanks for your patience.

I'm still waiting to download my free games for the ps3 and psp.

The outage sucked, mainly for the hassle of no store and no way to play online for stuff like Mk and Portal 2.

Not a huge deal now though. I'll switch to PSN cards for purchases, and keep my old, invalid address on my profile. There are just too many ps2 games I want to play to think about ditching the console.

Oh, OK. I just remember trying to play some games, and them not working, but others working. And signing in wasn't working after midnight. It was a strange week.

Quite cool that Boon & Friends patched the game to bypass the store.
