I recommend googling Sonny Bono, then maybe you'll get the joke.

He is a professional hockey player in the NHL. The Stanley Cup game would have been like going to the office and watching other guys work.

Picking up Bono still beats driving your car over The Edge.

Perducci: I'm really curious how Brule could recognize Bono at the side of the road. Sure, he has a bit of a unique look, but hardly enough to overpower the immediate thoughts of:
a.) Bono has no particular reason to be in Vancouver right now, and
b.) Bono probably has a solar-powered helicopter to take him everywhere

And this was in West Van: a city with plenty of rich douchebags with long hair wearing overpriced sunglasses.
Plus, from what TFA says, it was raining at the time, which can cut down on visibility considerably and counteract the intangible "this guy is rich and famous" aura that celebrities often seem to have.

Weird.
I picture Brule with a Bono poster over his bed with a big heart drawn around it. "One day, my little Irishman, one day."

That's a new laptop you owe me there! Seriously, if I had seen him, I would have been so excited I would have probably run him over.

I live in a 31 story high rise condominium, right in the middle of the Buckhead nightlife district. I went to an Ivy League school - the University of Pennsylvania - for my undergraduate degree in economics and my graduate degree in management (Wharton School of Business). I work out 4 times a week at LA Fitness. I am 6 feet tall, 185 pounds. I do mergers & acquisitions (corporate finance) for Limited Brands (Bath & Body Works, Victoria's Secret, etc)

I am a trainer on the side, in fact, I am heading to the gym in 26 minutes! So next time you challenge a guy of my caliber, instead of trying to get me to back off Bono, just shut up so you don't blow it with the next 8.9 on Hot or Not, Ivy League grad, Mensa member, can bench/squat/leg press over 1200 lbs., has had lunch with the secretary of defense, has an MBA from the top school in the country, lives in a Buckhead high rise, drives a Beemer convertible, has been in 14 major motion pictures, was in Jezebel's Best dressed, etc.

I think that's about 2-3%, AT LEAST, so it gives me an open pass to say what I want about that cack-smokin', self-loving twit Bobo.

BesiktasBoy83: totally insane can you imagine? Lucky guy. Also they got some free tickets for a U2 show. Bono rocks.

Not really that lucky. Gilbert Brule is an NHL player who makes millions of dollars, so it's not like he was some random average dude.

It has nothing to do with confidence. It's taken them almost 20 years to get back there. It just doesn't happen that a team makes the finals too frequently. At this rate, I would say U2 tours are more frequent than Vancouver cup runs.

And that's just plain ole fact, no slight to anyone intended.

U2 in Helsinki was the single greatest concert I've ever been to, and I've been to dozens. I saw U2 on their Zoo TV tour, but that was, what, almost 20 years ago?
My wife said after the show, "he's not really what I think of is handsome, but the charisma on stage ... wow."
I don't care what a rock star does off the stage, I long ago learned to separate the man from the art. But, let's face it, there are a lot of great musicians out there, but Bono, whatever you think of him personally, is a fraking ROCK STAR, and maybe the only one that matters right now. When you've seen a rock star, you know the difference. And U2? The longevity? They aren't playing out the string. Their recent album has some songs that is among their best work.
I would have paid double what I did for that experience last October.

Treygreen13: I remember one time I was driving a rental car in Aruba, I picked up a hitchhiker for the first time. She was a really pretty girl, blonde. Looked to be in her early 20's. I had just left Carlos n' Charlie's and saw her walking on the side of the road. She complained about some guy who treated her like crap back at the nightclub, something like Joe or something. I remember it was a weird name. She said she was there on a graduation trip. I remember she was high as a kite.

We stopped at a light and she asked me to help her get away from it all - she said she wanted to get away from her overbearing parents. She had a fake ID and passport all ready and had me drop her off at the little airport. Wish I could remember her name.

I met some Dutch guy while playing poker in Lima, Peru a couple of years ago. I think his name was Jorge. He said some douchebag with a Dallas Cowboy's hat helped his pretty American girl run away from him in Aruba. While we were busy fleecing this donk, this hot Peruvian girl walked up too him and whispered in his ear, then they were gone.

Well, do you really want to walk your own street every single day? Or maybe sometimes go to the park or the beach or some hiking trails? It's not like it's an inconvenience - a lot of dogs like the car ride too.

I do.

I go out to get the mail, sometimes buy a little lunch and then we go to the beach where there's often other dogs to play with and plenty of space to run around.

Must be nice to be near a beach without one of these:

That's about the time I was on the road a lot. I mostly stayed out west, though. It was never a problem getting a ride....well, I'm a girl. But never a problem, not even when I had a dog with me.

Some weird people and some pretty interesting experiences. A couple of guys dropped me off because I didn't want to get freaky with them, but overall everybody was cool.

My first reaction was "WTF, a Canadian professional hockey player gives up Stanley Cup tickets to go to a concert? Way to set an example, doofus!"

Then I realised that he was bound to be recognized at the game, and having posted terrible stats in a complete fustercluck of an Oilers season, laughed out of the building. So he probably made the right choice.

A couple of freaky guys wanted to give me a ride once. I persuaded them to get back in their truck and leave, but beyond that; everyone was kind to me. I just tried to do nice things for people along the way and generally people did nice things for me. Honestly, I think the whole, "everybody sucks and is dangerous" thing is a fallacy. I think people are generally good. Sure, there are still a few assholes out there, but of course there is... and not a fark should be given about them. Better to lift up the good than put my energy into the bad anyway, right?
