I'm pretty sure BMO stands for Bank of Montreal. Unusual way to create an acronym, but not uncommon. (I've heard the acronym pronounced "B-Mo" before.)

soopey: It's because everyone was at the bar watching it. That should count for a good 5 million people.

Yup.

I didn't go to the bar, but I know many people that did go just to go out and watch the game.

The Vs. ratings in Boston for the last series were pretty damn strong, if this series goes to 6 or 7, expect HUGE ratings.

/my boss never watches hockey but he couldn't help talking about the game this morning.
//I wanted to shove an impact gun up his farking ass.

I had a few people at work try to talk hockey with me today. I just said, "Yup. Was a good game. Next one is Saturday."

Killer Cars: Damn near missed the opening faceoff b/c the main NBC station here in Seattle without any warning decided to pawn it off to their "biatch" affiliate here. It took me ten minutes of watching the evening news telecast before I was all WTF.

Or maybe DirecTV just didn't get the memo.

just FYI not sure where in Seattle you are, but we get CBC (CBUT), think it is 619 (HD) on Comcast.

12349876: Still less viewers than So You Think You Can Dance and repeats of The Middle and Mike and Molly and The Middle and Rules of Engagement and Modern Family and Criminal Minds and Modern Family and Blue Bloods.

Only things on the Big 4 it beat were Cougar Town and Happy Endings.

The Bruins picked up 100% of the all important me demographic. So they got that going for them.

BMO is the stock ticker, for what that's worth. (a lot to me - sweet dividend yield and payout ratio)

Also helps that this years playoffs are pretty entertaining.
Yesterday's game was a good one. Even though I can't cheer for either team. I'm a Habs fan surrounded by the most obnoxious canuck fans and Boston put out Montreal. But they did do me the personal service of breaking Philly's hearts so that's something.

Every year when the playoffs are down to their last 4 teams I always find myself saying, "One of these teams is going to win the cup", when it got down to the last two teams... damn it all to hell. Oh well, I been a Recchi fan since he played in Montreal so Go Recchi Go!

That and you probably don't want to call your business BM in any case. You know, those initials might stand for something else.

It also helps that the NHL has no farking balls whatsoever and don't want to suspend Burrows for being a grade-A, tooth-first cockbag.

That game had two big American markets, vs. 1 for the hockey game. I don't really care either though. I'm not sure why people are so obsessed with ratings; I don't really care if other people like the same things as me.

/Although I suppose higher ratings = more hockey on TV which is a good thing but for a couple hundred bucks you can get Centre Ice and see every game anyways.

No credit to me watching it in Mexico huh?
Fark you NBC, I was watching it legally at a bar down here. Contribooting to your ratings

seumasokelly: I didn't realize NBC was airing it. Can't believe I accidentally pumped Canadian broadcast ratings (can't remember if it was CBC or CBUT and don't care). It was interesting to see the Canadian commercials...including one where they mad fun of people speaking French?

/We need Tim Horton's
//Why is Bank of Montreal abbreviated to BMO?

The main reason they abbreviated it to BMO was to have consistency with their ticker symbol on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

/first job was with BMO
//was taught that during training, because they get asked that A LOT.

If you're going to suspend anybody, how about Krejci's crosscheck to the head on Hamhuis after the play for no good reason?

Simple fact is, if you don't want your fingers bitten - keep them out of people's mouths.

That was nothing, too. Barely touched Hamhuis. Worthy of two minutes, though.

I thought Burrows would be suspended after watching it live, but after watching it a few times yesterday I agree with the League's decision. Ref should have just let them go at it and handed out 5 a piece. Matter's settled as far as I'm concerned, but someone will take a run a Burrows if the chance presents itself, I'm sure.

None of that is important, though... Let's tie this thing up tomorrow, Bruins!

Well, by that logic Hamhuis should have keep his head away from Krejci's stick. Face it, it was a biatch move. Everyone knows burrows is a girl playing a man's game now.

Marc Savard biting Dan Carcillo incident from last year

Freep Bruins Nation Impact:

**************************************

"However, perhaps I am off on this but if someone sticks
their fingers in your mouth in a fight, biting those fingers is fair game."

**************************************

"Carcillo is such a terd. He sticks his hand in Savard's mouth and calls it a bite."

**************************************

"FWIW I believe Carcillo when he says Savard bit him (he's done it before). I also believe Savard when he says Carcillo put his fingers in his mouth. You put your fingers in a guys mouth, they're fair game for a nibbling."

**************************************

"The idea of Savard gnawing on Carcillo's finger like a chicken wing cracks me up. Although I'm also a little nauseated on behalf of Savard -- that's one nasty chicken wing!"

**************************************

"Someone needs to make a 'History will be made' video of the biting incident. Caption "What if Carcillo..... wasn't so 'Finger Lickin'?"

**************************************

"you put your finger in a grown man's mouth, you should expect to get bit."

**************************************

"Stick your finger where it doesn't belong and it's going to get bit."

Caeldan: ten - keep them out of people's

Does this also apply to naughty bits?

2011-06-03 09:44:55 AM
Yeah, umm, there was no video, no bite marks, only the say of one many vs the other.
Now, if he did bite him, he should be punished. But I think Carcillo was trying to draw a call and was baiting the bruins.

Now, this year, there is plenty of evidence that he did bite him. So I have no problem calling him out on it. Especially since he drew blood. That's no accident

Guessing this is just because if you even have just one brain cell, basketball can easily be understood. Therefore more people will watch the game because it's more appealing in that way...also if the NHL/NHL players got the same attention from media outlets that the NBA does I'm sure the numbers would be reversed.

Can you imagine a show called "Khloe and Ovi" or a show called "Sidney and Lamar"?

I can think of several reasons why this series is being watched by many hockey fans who don't support other team. Goalie matchup, battle of defensemen, Boston's draught vs. 1970 expansion team without a Cup, etc..

It's like saying that only people from the cities or regions with teams in the game watch the Super Bowl... In short, it's asinine.

I guarantee everyone who is a fan of hockey is watching the Cup Finals. Hell, my buddy in Dublin is getting up early in the morning to watch it. Never mind all the Finns, Swedes, Russians, and assorted nationalities that have pro-hockey leagues.

Ah yes, the "enhanced interrogation" defense.

"He didn't do it, there's no evidence, it was Carcillo's fault for putting his fingers where they don't belong, so it was a good hockey play, even though it didn't happen. Carcillo was lying about it anyway, so good on Savard for biting him."

Ah yes, the "Completely change what I said, but leave it in quotes cause I'm too lazy to respond" defense
The only thing that was close to what I said was the first part, the there is no evidence.

At no time did I say it was ok, or that it was Carcillo's fault. What I said was that I think Carcillo put his finger into Savards mouth to try and bait Savard with the intention of claiming Savard bit him regardless of the outcome.

Now, if Savard did bit him, he should have been punished. But there was no evidence that a bite took place.

Also, burrows drew blood. Thats not a little bite or incidental. Thats intentional. If Savard drew blood on Carcillo, I bet you would find a whole lot less support for Savard.

And the only reason burrows is dressing saturday is that the NHL isn't going to suspend anyone for the Finals unless it starts to get out of hand. If this was regular season, his ass would be riding the pine.

Don't try and defend it. Just move on.

2011-06-03 12:01:17 PM
The only upside is that burrows is going to be under a microscope for the rest of the series. The refs, knowing this COULD get out of hand, will probably watch him like a hawk. And knowing he got away with one, will call a 4 minute major for being an ass if he so much as sneezes sideways.

Notes: Buffalo was the highest-rated market outside of New England, followed by Pittsburgh and Detroit. Those three cities are consistently the best US markets for TV ratings. Surprisingly, expansion cities Columbus and Nashville did better than traditional hockey markets like New York and Chicago. Nashville tied with Philly in ratings.

Doc Daneeka: 2 Providence-New Bedford 16.7/24

That was me and the Portuguese Mafia...

Not a bad spread, at any rate. Like I said earlier, I'm just glad I can now watch a hockey game just about every day during the regular season (sometimes two a night when Vs. has a game and NESN is showing the Bs) with nothing but basic cable.

Doc Daneeka: Surprisingly, expansion cities Columbus and Nashville did better than traditional hockey markets like New York and Chicago. Nashville tied with Philly in ratings.

I don't think that's terribly surprising. Large and tremendously diverse cities often lag behind in ratings for national broadcasts of sporting events.

Using the Super Bowl as an example, the national rating this year was a 46, NYC did a 42.6. Millions of immigrants here couldn't care less about American sports.

Even looking at the Giants/Patriots Super Bowl, the national share was 65, in NYC it was 67.

2011-06-03 01:17:23 PM
Burrows not being suspended isn't surprising - a bare minimum for suspension in the SCF would be someone repeatedly smashing their stick over someone's head.

A little tetanus? Minor detail.

Win what? I'm not even reading what you're complaining about, I just like your verbose replies. It's funny seeing Bruins fans whine about everything but the game.

So no, you do not win. In fact, you are losing. You are losing 1 (one) game to 0 (zero).

But please do go on. Whine more. It won't make your team unlose the game. Your tears of impotent range are sweet and satisfying.

Well, see, this would have been a good reply 2 and a half hours ago instead of the Lulz picture. Sorry, no credit. And if the 1994 Stanley Cup finals didn't teach you that winning the first game means nothing, then you will never learn. Still lots of hockey to play

Dude, do you think I spend all day on Fark? I'm farking working, dumbass.

Now hurry up with those tears, my coffee's cold. Maybe if you cry harder about it, the NHL will scratch the first game and call a do-over.
