No one ever said you had to be smart to be a cop. If I had to sit in jail 6 days for nothing somebody would be losing their job.

2003-08-21 01:59:51 PM
My thoughts exactly, DownSouth

I foresee a wrongful arrest suit in your future, Florida

My son just found out that he didn't get considered for a bunch of jobs in North Cackalackie because "he had not mentioned that he had a criminal record and was on probation in NC for a felony". Probably because it isn't him and he only moved to NC three months ago, never lived there before. Now he has to prove he isn't the guy.

that shiite is really teh gay.

deputies assumed the differing middle name was an alias used to thwart police.

So...he was so freaking stoopid that he used the same first and last name, but he had the guile/cunning to switch middle names?

Deputies...turn in your bullets.

"This is never going to go away," he said. "Every time I see a police car, I wonder if I'm going to be locked up and sent to Miami.".

I've heard some shiatty things about Miami, but that takes the cake. Living in fear of being sent to Miami, huh?

No one ever said you had to be smart to be a cop.

I'm suddenly reminded of that guy a while back that the police force refused to hire because he was "too smart"...

"The process could be strengthened, perhaps."

Sam Lowry: I assure you, Mrs. Buttle, the Ministry is very scrupulous about following up and eradicating any error. If you have any complaints which you'd like to make, I'd be more than happy to send you the appropriate forms.

reminds me of the time I showed up to courtfor a curfew violaltion and stood trial for cocaine possession.

2003-08-21 09:02:28 PM
I should have been on trial for horrid spelling.

2003-08-21 09:10:41 PM
What the fark?! It isn't even legal to hold anyone for more then 48 hours without charging them with a crime. Damnit this country is farked up. In a just world the people who erroneously locked this person up would be in jail themselves!

Because if you're a Florida cop, in your mind everything people do is all about thwarting police.

Oh, man. When I read the headline I thought the poor guy had been in jail for 33 years.

Police put wrong man in 33-year-old jail man over 33 different name

There are lawyers forming a conga line in this guy's front yard as we speak.

2003-08-21 09:24:36 PM
Shouldn't the warrant be dropped after 33 years?

2003-08-21 09:26:37 PM
Superjoe It depends on the crime. Some don't expire.

He should try to sue the holy farking shiat out of them & be as public about it as possible. Whether he wins or loses they might remember him better next time.

This happened to me in South Dakota once. I'll spare you the details, but after a 3:30am traffic stop, after I'd been driving 700 miles, this asshat patrol cop tries to book me for a domestic abuse charge. something about my "wife." luckily only took me a half hour to get sorted out.

2003-08-21 09:50:30 PM
almost as good as that woman taken down by a FBI SWAT team a few months ago. They'd been watching her for 2 years, they thought she was some French national wanted on a kidnapping charge. Even better, the french national's ex-husband flew over and identified her. It wasn't until the DNA tests came back that she was let out. The frenchie's excuse "The police told me it was my wife, so I said it was."

2003-08-21 09:53:12 PM
The scary thing about all this? The people who farked up have loaded guns.

2003-08-21 10:00:30 PM
Habeus corpus has no place in American law when a Bush is in charge.

2003-08-21 10:05:46 PM
I can see how the police could make such a mistake. After all, Anderson is a rare name--what are the odds there is another Douglas Anderson with a different middle name out there. Infinitesimal.

2003-08-21 10:07:36 PM
Let me guess - this guy must be a registered Democrate.

Badum-bum!

2003-08-21 10:08:44 PM
er... make that Democrat - no "e" on the end. *sigh*

2003-08-21 10:13:58 PM
Now where are all those Farkers who always scream about how prisoners should all be beaten/raped/humiliated/starved/ because after all, they wouldn't be in prison if they hadn't done something wrong?

Sonso'whores, they are! A 33-year old warrant, and the name was wrong??? Oh, man, this guy's civil rights got VIOLATED, big time. This shiat's more common than you might want to think it is.

Hell, I got busted in 1991 for a DUI. I did the crime, I paid the price, and the probation officer told me everything was fine.

Apparently not - I got pulled over, and the filth arrested me for the same offense. The dumbass probation officer had forgotten to tell me that the damned judge had ordered an extra post-probation hearing, so when I didn't show up, they issued a bench warrant for me. My dad got hold of the probation officer, who told the filth that I was innocent, and they let me go, no questions asked.

Fast forward 4 years, and I get pulled over for some damned tail light infraction, and as it turns out, the dumb biatch probation officer had neglected to get the warrant rescinded, so they hauled me in again, for the same offense! This time I got a lawyer, paid him the money, and got the thing taken care of.

Or so I thought. When I went to the state police post where they have you pay traffic tickets to pay off the tail light fine, the bastards handcuffed me and hauled me right back in - for the SAME DAMNED THING ASBEFORE!

Well, I got another lawyer this time. I paid her the fee, payed the fine AGAIN, and the clerk of the court told me to my face that I was scot free, and gave me a receipt.

2 years ago, I heard from a friend of mine that they were looking for me, something about the statute of limitations running out on something they didn't identify. Probably the same thing.

Mebbe he did get butt farked? We will learn more as the litigation procedes...

Hell, this is a small price to pay for the benefits we receive from living in a society with the highest percentage of its citizens locked up in prisons than any country in the history of the world.

Auchtung baby! Land of the "free" /lmao!!!!!

Its the Republicans fault.

2003-08-21 11:16:55 PM
did they pee on him?

2003-08-21 11:23:00 PM
At least they didn't shoot him.

2003-08-21 11:35:42 PM

BlobBrain, It's the fault of BOTH PARTIES that things are f*cked up as they are today, not just Republicans.

Both of them cater to special interests exclusively, and no longer represent We the People. We've had the Democratic Party since 1792, the Republican Party since the 1856, and NOTHING ELSE.

It's time to give this country an enema!

2003-08-21 11:37:54 PM
Trust me, the middle name thing is not out of the realm of reality.

I have heard stories that make the switching the middle name seem creative. However, this is why they are digitizing fingerprints so they can do this faster. That is why my license has a magnetic strip on the back...the ol' fingerprint you give at the DMV is encoded on the back.

2003-08-21 11:52:06 PM
Gee, Mr. Ashcroft, I can't even guess why most of the country doesn't trust the government with more power to arrest and detain people....

2003-08-22 12:53:45 AM
"This is never going to go away," he said. "Every time I see a police car, I wonder if I'm going to be locked up and sent to Miami."

I feel ya, brotha...and I live nowhere near Miami.

You know, I never got the Joker's line "This town needs an enema" until I watched it recently. Last time I saw it, I was like 15.

from the 'for what it's worth' file...

i can't write a check at k-mart, staples, office depot and a few other places. why? because most verification systems recognize only numbers and not letters. california driver's licenses have letters.

now it's not an issue since atm-debit cards are more prevalent and because i've got a company cc these days.

but that one day i went to k-mart to buy $8.00 worth of crap and couldn't pass a check...oh so embarassing.

btw...don't sue the cops. sue the people who maintain their information contractors.

2003-08-22 02:14:35 AM
The warrant had a different name?

2003-08-22 05:24:00 AM
Getting thrown in jail for no reason is one of my biggest fears-and I'm not even black!

2003-08-22 05:32:18 AM
In the great state of Indiana, three identifiers have to match for the warrant to be yours. Part of the indianapolis booking process is for you to visit ident, where they confirm who you are. If the warrant wasn't for you, this is where it would get sorted out, before you ever hit the general population.

Interestingly enough, the NCIC uses soundex, so if you ran Jon Smithe, and there was a warrant for John Smith, both having the same SSN and DOB, the warrant would come up. Its up to the cops and/or jail ident to determine if the warrant is yours.

But cmon, this guy was warned three times to get the problem fixed. Had he done so, this never would have happened. Its his own damn fault.

Cops can do whatever the fark they want. When I was 16 the FBI and the police served me with a warrant that had the wrong date on it. They said it didnt make a difference and proceeded to arrest me. Fark the police.

2003-08-22 09:05:17 AM
So, Who killed john lennon, what were the charges? And did you mean wrong birthdate or wrong warrant date as it wasn't to be served until the next day.

2003-08-22 10:15:39 AM
I used to wonder why Fark had a special "Florida" category, thinking in my naivete that "asinine" and "dumbass" could handle these things. Now I realize that "Florida" is a universe of stupidity unto its own.
