It's those damn Palestinians.
2003-08-20 10:34:36 AM
An attorney for the orthodox Jew said the bracelet would create problems for Jacobowitz every Sabbath because it is connected remotely to a phone line and automatically triggers a call to authorities when a defendant leaves home.

Don't leave home then. Problem solved.
2003-08-20 10:47:22 AM

2003-08-20 10:49:45 AM
Hey Daniel, would think twice about using the term "Nazi" in a jew thread ;)
2003-08-20 10:49:49 AM
I think Fraud is only illegal against other Jews. Or is that lending money with interest? No. Seriously. Its one of the 613 Talmidic laws.

/off to look up talmidic law.

By talking to the press, he's also caused this article to appear. I think I'll read it again this Saturday.

Jewelry bad...stealing A-OK.
2003-08-20 10:50:10 AM
Where in the Old Testament are phone calls mentioned?
2003-08-20 10:50:33 AM
Can someone explain to me what a Hassidic Jew is. Are they the ones with the curly sideburns? What's up with that?
2003-08-20 10:50:53 AM
Lemme tell you something about them superjewish folks.

in the summer, i work on a charter fishing boat, so we get this one charter, all hassidic jews, and what do they bring with them??? about 10 bottles of liqour and 3 strippers/whores.

They all get BJ's and are farking the strippers and getting juiced for 8 hours that night, and they didn't tip us. turds.

Im telling you, they put on some show when they are home in their neighborhood, then they get away and fark ho's and get sauced. i just think its comical.

I also think it's NOT the electronic device that is against their religon, but in fact the Nickle plated jewlery that is sold by the local Palestinians from the local mall.

So, he can't make a phone call on a sunday, but can be fraudlent of a sunday? Cool religion....where do I sign up..

He's Jewish, their Sabbath is Saturday.
2003-08-20 10:52:19 AM
yup, i think so....I could do the curly side burn things, but i may have difficulty getting a beard going...damn, foiled again.
2003-08-20 10:55:14 AM
He's Jewish, their Sabbath is Saturday.

Oh, well the fraud thing is ok then.
2003-08-20 10:55:21 AM

2003-08-20 10:56:55 AM
"...all hassidic jews, and what do they bring with them??? about 10 bottles of liqour and 3 strippers/whores. "

Looks like you were hit by some stereotypes..
2003-08-20 10:57:14 AM
In the spirit of religious tolerance and respect, he should definitely have the choice of spending the time in prison or wearing the silly bracelet.
2003-08-20 10:59:09 AM
Another case proving that just because someone dresses according to set of religous/cultural rules, that doesn't make them a moral person.
2003-08-20 10:59:22 AM
N-I-K ..

N-I-C-K-L ...

THANKS, I am now edumacated!!

An attorney for the orthodox Jew said the bracelet would create problems for Jacobowitz every Sabbath because it is connected remotely to a phone line and automatically triggers a call to authorities when a defendant leaves home.

"It violates their religious beliefs to cause a telephone call to be made on the Sabbath," defense attorney Nathaniel Marmur told Brooklyn federal Magistrate Judge Marilyn Go.

Simple. Throw the lying, stealing, false-witness-giving, thief in jail Friday until Sunday.

As an African American, I cannot wear any tracking ankle bracelets, as it might interfere with my celebration of Kawannza. If I could only remember when Kawanza starts. Well I do know when the Chinese New Year starts, so that would be interfered with by the bracelet as well. Also, as a Semi-Scientologist, this would interfere with my ascent into being able to watch any more John Travolta crap movies.
2003-08-20 11:01:06 AM
What was the scam? Inquiring minds want to know.

Ugly cosmetics?
Non-Kosher eye shadow?
2003-08-20 11:01:23 AM
I'm not Jewish, but if my understanding is correct it would be wrong for him to make a phone call on the Sabbath, that is correct. But if he were to cause a phone call to be made in passing, not by his direct action, but his indirect that would be okay.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are now electronics specifially developed around that way of doing things. Like you can't turn on an oven to cook a meal, so you have to start cooking the meal Friday night. You can open the oven to get the meal, but you can't turn it off. If in opening the oven to get your meal the oven happens to turn off that is okay. Seems to me I saw an oven advertised with just that in mind. Can anyone confirm this? Seems to me that monitor would do the same thing.
2003-08-20 11:01:57 AM
Wait, is this some kind of incredible misspelling of "ankle"? If so, bravo.
2003-08-20 11:02:25 AM
But I am a jew!
/secular as can be
2003-08-20 11:02:37 AM
The Hassidah are ultra-orthodox, have distinct black clothing, and in NYC live in the Upper east Side as well as South Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The curly hair near the ears is not cut because Pagans traditionally shaved that area.

They have a very strict culture, but the ones I've met seem happy and nice enough.
2003-08-20 11:02:52 AM
They should make an alternative bracelet fastened out of hog-skin and emblazoned with swastikas and Palestinian flags and make him wear that one instead.
2003-08-20 11:03:16 AM
If the bracelet is bad, he should just stay in prison - they are very good in there about allowing religious freedom.

And c'mon guys he would never steal on the Sabbath... just the other 6 days a week ;-)
2003-08-20 11:03:45 AM

Where is this boat and how soon can I book a voyage?
2003-08-20 11:03:51 AM
I am starting to think that the word "Nazi" is beginning to lose it's power. After the soup-nazi episode of Seinfeld people started using the term to denote anyone who was strict. Sure there are some people to whom the word holds much power but as soon as those people are gone the word will hold less and less power and soon we will start using it to describe the biatch behind the counter at Burger King who won't give you extra pickles on your whopper.
2003-08-20 11:04:05 AM
skinink, as a fellow scientologist, I must say that you have not been screening yourself properly to remove your thetans.
2003-08-20 11:04:10 AM
Arent Hassidic Jews the ones who in Israel refuse to go into the military draft, yet in there damn settlements carry Uzis? They wind up taking a few potshots at the local palestinians by their settlement and the next thing you know the farking Israeli army is under rocket attack because of what the non serving religious idiot started.
2003-08-20 11:04:49 AM
Kind of like Muhammed Ali saying war was against his religion but adultery, fighting and belittling people were all okey dokey.
2003-08-20 11:04:51 AM
onid70, where I come from, we call those "pickle nazis".
2003-08-20 11:05:49 AM

They also have a large community in the Boro Park Section of Brooklyn.
2003-08-20 11:07:03 AM
ToughNutToCrack, um, no.

Very strict Hassidic Jews are exempt from the military draft but only if they also refuse to hold a job. The thing is that they are supposed to be devoting their entire life to the study of their religion and so if they get hired as an employee anywhere then they are not taking their obligations seriously.
2003-08-20 11:07:34 AM
The curly hair near the ears is not cut because Pagans traditionally shaved that area.

And Pagans traditionally make phone calls on Saturday too!
2003-08-20 11:07:49 AM
fark him, if he doesn't want to wear the lo-jack, then he gets thrown in a cell. Simple as that.

Don't do something that most likely goes against the very same thing you're going to hide behind. You just look like an asshole and a hypocrit.
2003-08-20 11:08:07 AM
During my senior year of high school I had a kid sit next to me in study hall who had to wear an electronic bracelet because he robbed someone at gunpoint (the "authorities" thought he would be better off in a small town atmosphere), another kid who was on a pseudo work-release program from a juvenille detention center, and another kid who got arrested by the county sherrifs (during study hall) for having drugs in his locker. Farm country ain't so safe any more.

From what I've read in the previous posts, being a Hassidic Jew allows you to: a) commit fraud and not have to wear an electronic monitor because it's against your religion, b) fark strippers and hos and c) drink tons and tons of liquor. Wow. How come this isn't a more popular religion? ;)
2003-08-20 11:09:21 AM
I'm jewish (not hassidic,) and here's for the 'Jews don't have rules against fraud' crowd...

One of the ten commandments. Jews invented those. This guy was obviously a shiatty jew.

Not all jews who are 'religious' actually follow the religion, just like going to church doesn't mean you actually love your neighbor or turn the other cheek.
2003-08-20 11:09:56 AM
I asked a Jewish friend out about this.

It is only against his religon to make the call himself on Sunday. If it is done unassisted, that is not a violiation. In fact, my friend says they have voice-activated phones in Israel for emergency uses on Sundays.

So this guy is just blowing a load of hot air out his backside.
2003-08-20 11:10:13 AM
I'd just like to say that I really think the stuff jews do for their religion is a huge pile of crap. It's probably the same with all religions, but it really does seem like jews do SO much more stupid shiat than the rest.
