Maybe not, but they should still be punished for "Once Bitten, Twice Shy."

That's okay, I'm driving the bus to Hell. My boss already gave me the passenger list and they have to sit behind Idi Amin, after he's been force-fed Taco Bell.

I'm okay with OBTS, it made Ian Hunter a few well-deserved bucks.

2003-08-19 11:38:52 PM
Well, this is only in regards to criminal charges. As for civil charges, the families of the victims are suing practically anybody who ever even heard of Great White.

2003-08-20 12:55:59 AM
However, Great White will likely get off scot-free.

Not really. I can't imaging the guilt these poor bastards feel right now. Ruined their lives.

<-----I'd hit it with a brick, then run away.

Great White kills all 100 of their fans and they don't get punished for it? Kinda like the Florida Gators... What a Croc!

Do 100 mullets go up in flames faster than 100 normal haircuts?

2003-08-20 01:42:44 AM
these dickheads have been trying to solicit money from their fans (probably hard to do since they torched half of them.)

2003-08-20 01:43:44 AM
Pyro indoors, especially in a small club. Wise choice Great White as you can't play stadiums. Had to live the dreams somehow.

Once again, whoever pressed the button is responsible. I want to see someone go down for this - this has affected my industry much more than you can imagine. One jackass band ruins it for the professionals.

I'm from RI!

I have nothing else to say.

Well, not just from RI, still in RI, never left RI, someone help me escape!

Whoever invented fire is to blame. So its a caveman named Grog that's been dead for 3 million years.

2003-08-20 01:51:25 AM
This isnt surprising. Jack Russell has NO money. He cant even keep his web site open.

2003-08-20 01:56:09 AM
I think this could negatively impact the flammable soundproofing industry.

Let's just BLAME CANADA and be done with it!

I heard that there were no Canadians at the concert.

Makes you wonder...

2003-08-20 02:06:34 AM
Didn't one of the band members die in the fire?

2003-08-20 02:06:37 AM
The ironic thing is that the club owners were due to sign the place over to new ownership the very next day.

2003-08-20 02:11:29 AM
Man, this was in the Globe last week.

Nice jokes everybody! When you die in a horrible fire just for seeing your lame-ass favorite band, I'll make sure to laugh at you, too.

Where did you see that? I believe you're wrong.

Or even better: when you're stuck in intensive care for years b/c you have 3rd degree burns over most of your body, and will never be without pain for the rest of your life, I'll joke about it all day!

Yeah, b/c death and horrible burns are 'teh funny.'

Asshats.

BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO STUPID TO READ THEIR CONTRACT!

I agree with stupidity, stoopid

2003-08-20 02:33:20 AM
Well, now what, stoopid?

2003-08-20 02:56:15 AM
um, guys? If you're looking for sympathetic, mature responses, you're looking at the wrong post...er, website. This is FARK. And if I've learned anything from FARK, it's that I should ALWAYS expect someone to make a joke. About ANYTHING. The more offensive, the better. And as this story is old (happened in February), any tact that posters might have had is gone now. Some people deal with uncomfortable situations by getting defensive, and some people use humor (which, of course, is subjective). I really don't ses any point in name calling..

My grandmother's best friend was a severe alcoholic, and he died after overdosing on alcohol and pain pills. That doesn't mean I should go Nazi on whoever makes a joke about alcoholism.

BTW: He was Native American... a recent thread involved NAs and alcoholism, but I didn't get too upset about them.

Metallica should sue them.

Who cares what happens...I mean come on, these people were PACKED into a crappy dive bar (although I like dive bars) to see a horrible band...went up in flames.....

I don't see the problem.

I've been in bands since I was 14 (20 years ago), and have learned a bit about the industry in that time. Ever since this has happened, all I have been hearing in many reports is the slamming of GW and Jack Russell (who is a farking awesome person!) over this tragedy. What people fail to realize is that IT IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ACTUAL BAND TO GET PERMISSION FOR THING LIKE THIS!!!! That job falls squarely on the shoulders of the Tour Manager. He is hired and paid to handle the business end of the tour. When the band says "We want to have chinese food, beer, whiskey, etc. at the venue when we get there.", the manager puts it in the contract rider. When they say "We want pyro, a white tiger, 100 naked midgets wrestling in jello, etc. on stage when we play." it is the tour manager's job to see if it is legal in that area, find out if the venue will allow it, and take the necessary measures (Police, fire, permits, trained techs, midget wrangler, etc.) to be able to do it, including getting all the needed safety measures in place. This guy didn't. Whether he was too lazy, too busy, or to stupid to do it, or just didn't care about it doesn't matter. That was what he was paid to do, and he didn't do it. Now it's his ass. The club owner's, who put up sound insulating foam that they knew was not flameproof and not up to specs for that application to save a few farking dollars (no backup in writing for this statement, but I heard this in an interview with an employee of the club and a spokesperson for the company that the foam was bought from on MSNBC) are gonna pay too. I have been dicked over too many times by cheap ass bar owners to have any farking sympathy for them.

I feel for the boys in the band, who lost a brother, and will always have this hanging over their heads.

I feel for those who died, those who were injured, and their families.

I don't have a drop of sympathy for a manager who for some reason didn't do his job, or the owners who wanted to save a buck and then blame the band. It is their actions that caused this. THEY were the ones who killed and maimed those fans, not Great White.

2003-08-20 05:15:43 AM
Are they still called "Great White"? I would have thought "Black and Singed" would be a better name?

Bullshiat. They asked most stage managers throughout that east coast tour about the pyro. Most said no, if asked.

/didn't share any sound crews with them

Um, the Longley kid didn't exactly get off scott-free...

BeauS, It's hard not to care. RI is a small state, everybody knows everybody.

dangerpest

isn't that the truth.... just being from the area i've found myself being seperated by a mere 2 degrees from 10 people who died at that show. freaky. fortunately, i didn't know anyone directly, but i have a lot of friends who did.

thorgryn

you're 100% right. it was the asshat manager and club owners who are responsible for the fire. not great white. the owners are up the creek for some other corner cutting as well, like not having workers comp insurance.

2003-08-20 08:53:36 AM
Thorgryn - damn right.

2003-08-20 09:19:24 AM
This is only reasonable. A musician's job is to show up, play the gig, and drink as much of their rider as they possibly can before getting back on ther bus to go do it all over again at the next gig.Sound, Lighting, & Pyrotechnics are the responsibility of the production crew. The guys in the band have nothing at all to do with it. Come on, these guys don't even tune their own instruments. Do you really think their out there running cable and setting up flashpots before the show?

/former production guy

Hmm, I'm from RI - the Station was about 10 minutes from the house I grew up in.

Fortunately I now live in Mass. And couldn't imagine attending a Great White show. Now Poison a few months back and the Sex Pistols tonight - well, that's a different story.

2003-08-20 09:49:00 AM
I leave near RI, not actually in it. I live in Washington County. We all know RI officially ends at Warwick.

Lol.

2003-08-20 10:18:08 AM
It wasn't the band's fault anyhow... hell, they just show up for gigs their manager sets up. It was the manager and the club that screwed the pooch here.

As far as the band getting off scott-free... ask Ty Longley, oh wait, he died in the fire.

2003-08-20 10:20:24 AM
Don't forget the most ironic thing about this story. One of the owners was a local newscaster, and he had his station there filming a piece on nightclub safety.

This guy is right. It's not the band's fault.

Great White was a great blues-rock band. We need more bands like this today.
