Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Lighting: That tag-line is just awful. It looks like a mistake/bad grammar. Someone please come up with something better.

/For real

It's not news, it's real news. Or something.

That's what I came to say. How did they not catch that their slogans contradict each other?
2011-05-27 05:30:02 AM
Also the logo looks like it was designed by a non-designer.
2011-05-27 05:37:14 AM

John Paul Jones: Overall, I dig it. The comment spacing needs to be set back to where it was though. Far too cramped.

headline spacing is too large, comment spacing too small. Font change is a bit of a shock to the system, but I'll get over it.
2011-05-27 05:37:59 AM
oh, also not a big fan of the new logo, i think the old one looked better. and "Real News." shouldn't be part of it, because it's Fark, and Fark is NOT news.

2011-05-27 05:45:57 AM
I liked Fark BEFORE it was redesigned.
2011-05-27 05:47:35 AM
My only concern is that it means I have to change my site-specific scripting for the color scheme I'm using.
2011-05-27 05:58:51 AM
Has the font changed or is it just my eyes?
Headlines seem to be skinnier, a bit hard to focus on.
2011-05-27 06:38:25 AM
Huge improvement. Well done.
2011-05-27 07:09:41 AM
How do I see it if I'm not logged in?
2011-05-27 07:26:35 AM
Make everything bigger.
2011-05-27 07:26:46 AM
Well... It's... gray.

Very, very gray.

I guess color blind people will be happy? The rest of us will get over it.
2011-05-27 07:32:20 AM
PLEASE bring back a SFW version!! Thanks.
2011-05-27 07:45:58 AM
My biggest complaint is still that the font size is too big and there's too much white space.

I agree with this statement
2011-05-27 07:47:14 AM
Change is bad.
Just stop.
Leave well enough alone.
2011-05-27 08:03:43 AM
meg - "Real News. Real Funny" is just a placeholder right now for our new slogan (one that doesn't make people think we "make up fake news"). We've gotten some great suggestions from TotalFarkers and will be choosing one before June 1.

Real News for Serious Idiots to argue over.

Nah too long.

Real News made palpable for the normal man.

Damnit too long!

Hilariously accurate news!

2011-05-27 08:24:35 AM
Yeah, can I get a "continue farking" button please?
2011-05-27 08:25:56 AM

LewDux: 06/01 NEVER FORGET

But I can't forget 06/'s only 5/27. Are you from the future?
2011-05-27 08:29:20 AM
Why do programmers and web designers constantly feel the need to fix things that are not broken?

2011-05-27 08:42:25 AM
Some of the Tags for articles (amusing, asinine, interesting etc.) seem a touch more blurry when coupled with the redesign. Perhaps they could use a new coat of paint? A little more crisp definition, if you will.
2011-05-27 08:56:23 AM

In many subtle ways that add up to a trainwreck.

I'll blame it on my OS/browser and hope this isn't how it looked when they thought it was a good idea. I'll get over it and/or fiddle with it to fix it and/or change browsers and/or get a life. Aw, who am I kidding? I'll get over it.
2011-05-27 09:17:26 AM
Reminds me of my first car, and my last girlfriend:

Clunky and ugly, but functional.
2011-05-27 09:17:46 AM
Fonts way too big
2011-05-27 09:23:04 AM
All that fancy schmancy crap slows my firefox down.
2011-05-27 09:32:56 AM

thalassatx: My God, I might not get over it.

Are you at least going to make all comments have the CSS attribute overflow:scroll? Because I hate when comments spill outside of the background-color area.

/the font is nice
2011-05-27 09:33:50 AM
I don't like the change. The new design has far too much wasted space. It looks too "trendy" and not enough "worky". How am I supposed to surf at work if it looks like this?
2011-05-27 09:33:56 AM
Needs more cowbell
2011-05-27 09:45:58 AM

Surly U. Jest: Needs more cowbell

Speaking of. Mister Web designer, any chance of getting the music tab back? Thanks to kind Farkers, my musical menu has more than doubled over the past couple years thanks to that tab and the "If you like that, try this" posts.

Mmmmm... Douchey
2011-05-27 10:13:03 AM
I think it needs a little bit more grey to spice it up a little bit.

This isn't a video game, not everything needs to be monotonous.
2011-05-27 10:39:38 AM
Looking forward to complaining about this once it goes live. Thanks Fark!

/Already over it.
2011-05-27 10:45:31 AM
Refreshed, without trying to reinvent the wheel. Just like my Honda!

I approve.
2011-05-27 10:56:06 AM
Date at top of page is of no use and takes up too much vertical space. On my laptop it means I can only see three headlines.

Needs some color. Maybe not skittles, but something.

Logo needs to be re-imagined from scratch. It was never any good.

Font in threads is very readable for me. Folks that are whining about it being too big need to learn about ctrl - (or I need to learn about ctrl +).

Other than that, looks fine.
2011-05-27 10:57:03 AM

She approves. I think Drew's drunk, drunk, I tell you, on his, on his own power!
2011-05-27 11:04:40 AM
I am disappoint. I can't really find anything to get over. I feel so left out.
2011-05-27 11:07:20 AM
Why did the Geek and Business tabs switch places? That's going to screw me up for weeks.

Cottage Cheesecake: It looks good enough from this end...but there are a ton more scripts running. Almost double. I am sure they are all there to help keep the look clean and simple though. Right?

Which extra ones are you seeing? We have the same analytics scripts running (so that we can get ads to keep this site afloat), one less ad script running (3 ads instead of 4), and the same fark scripts (to handle the quote button, html tools, url hover, etc). I think we added one more tiny script to handle the login at the top, and a small 'modernizr' script, but that's it. There shouldn't be any others. If you see double than that, let me know what the other ones are so I can investigate.

There've been a couple comments in here about it running 'slower', so I'm looking into that. For those of you who've reported that, let me know if it keeps running slower. My guess is that since we're using new images, css files, etc., your browsers are just downloading and caching a bunch more things at once. Once you use it a couple times, it should be as speedy (or speedier)
2011-05-27 11:19:46 AM
It's not as "quirky" as the old one, which I kinda liked. It almost looks like a halfway-respectable website.

But yeah, I expect I'l be able to get over it quite easily. Cheers!

BuckTurgidson: Good show, chaps!

It's in the top right, under "Welcome, BuckTurgidson!"
2011-05-27 11:20:49 AM

beerbaron: Date at top of page is of no use and takes up too much vertical space. On my laptop it means I can only see three headlines.

The whole top of the page is wasted. An entire bar for the logo wasted. On the article page, below that you have the headline with facebook crap and whatever. WAY too much empty space there. Condense that shiat down.

Logo needs to be re-imagined from scratch. It was never any good.

Yep. The Fark logo sucks ass. So does the new tagline. "Real News. Real Funny"? C'mon. That's terrible.

beerbaron: Font in threads is very readable for me. Folks that are whining about it being too big need to learn about ctrl - (or I need to learn about ctrl +).

The font's fine, other than that they cut the serifs off due to budget constraints.

dprathbun: How do I see it if I'm not logged in?

If you're not logged in, the "Welcome, dprathbun!" will turn into "Log in" and "Sign up" links.

kibblesnbits: PLEASE bring back a SFW version!! Thanks.

You can still get a SFW version by going to your myFark prefs and enabling the option to "Filter out potentially Not Safe For Work headlines"

Ed Finnerty: Be sure to add these at the bottom of the pages:

If you haven't noticed that yet.

Try this design:
2011-05-27 11:51:42 AM

Less of this creepy mofo.
2011-05-27 12:08:38 PM
How is this "more readable"? What does that even mean? The words look the same to me.
2011-05-27 12:13:47 PM
Who failed Web Design 101? Fugly as hell....
