It seems less polished and more passive. That and the small text on the upper banner seems fuzzy. The size of the buttons for the various tabs kinda sucks too. It puts the emphasis on the Entertainment tab instead of keeping them more equal like before.

It obviously won't stop me from using Fark, but the general overtones it's giving me are similar to depressants mixed with other depressants. I've gotten other people to like fark because it's a bit of a happy place full of jokes and zingers. This just says "Meh, I like cloudy days." What, did your wife leave you so you'd go goth but you're too old? Pep the Fark up.

2011-05-26 09:22:27 PM
I like it.

2011-05-26 09:22:31 PM
I would recommend spacing out the "Got questions about Fark? See our FAQ" apart from the end-page text. Also, the "By posting, you agree to these terms" would make more sense on the same line as the "Before posting..." sentence.

2011-05-26 09:22:41 PM
It would be nice if it didn't have this stupid huge right sidebar of crap that nobody cares to see. I will get over it when we get some aftermarket plug-ins to thwart that nonsense.

2011-05-26 09:23:11 PM
I've been using the new design for about a week.

I like it.

/just center the damn "Redisplay/refresh comments" button under all the comments

2011-05-26 09:23:18 PM
I like the default font size ... not crazy about the lack of spacing between the posts. Please fix.

Other than that, i'm over it.

Rreal: another fark redesign, another shrinking of the content to put in more ads.

and ironically the whole reason the site was made is not safe for the site anymore.

/misses aarkieboy

I didn't actually see more ads, at least not in length, I compared the old and new, it looks like the ads along the side of the old are actually a little longer down the comments. The "Images/Banners" section seems gone, so this time it wasn't to increase ads. Perhaps they're trying to make it look more respectable and business-like and attract more varied ads.

2011-05-26 09:23:45 PM

crazyeddie: Oh good! More space for advertising.

More shiat to block with Adblock Plus - or just nuke everything by killing plug-in container.

yeah yeah, I know: REPORTED!

Looks nice, I hope it works on my tablet, I'm going to go try it.

You nailed the font correction, Meg; thanks.

jvl: What's with the wasted vertical space at the top of the page? A whole line for "Real news, real funny?" Giant-sized Main/Geek/Business tabs which, despite their size, need giant-sized margins? Then another giant-sized date on it's own line which, since it's not clickable really doesn't need to be big. If a user is having trouble reading, maybe they could just figure out how to tell their browser to embiggen everything instead of inflicting it on everyone?

And more margin on the left... why?

The fonts look smooth on my Mac, but really jagged on Win/Firefox

Laptops dude. They have small screens that their users must put up with, in much the same way that Mrs. Jvl must put up with small equipment.

Oh wow I was about to say all this but you beat me to it.

2011-05-26 09:25:20 PM

jingks: Meh, it's just a new coat of paint... does a new css file really count as a redesign?

Came here.

To say.

This.

2011-05-26 09:25:29 PM
I like it. It has a sutble updated look to it.

2011-05-26 09:25:47 PM
Nothing wrong with that.

Yep - actually fewer ads... we went down from 4 ads to 3 and got rid of the classifieds (a month ago, but in preparation for this).

EWWWW!!! the new packaging makes it taste funny.

Well, at least FARK will now blend in seamlessly with corporate cubicles, and the boss might not even notice that you're FARKing off at work.

Working as intended?

Fix old No new!

2011-05-26 09:27:47 PM
Here's what I don't understand, just like the new phones we got at the office today. The old ones worked fine. They did everything they were supposed to do . Make calls, transfer calls, retrieve messages, forward calls, leave messages, caller ID, etc. They worked just fine yesterday. Today, all the old phones were in a forlorn pile and new phones were on our desks. The new phones don't do anything new and exciting, as if there was anything exciting a new phone could do. Everybody has a new phone number that no one knows yet, voicemail keys and passwords are different, outgoing messages need to be rerecorded, the clock/date graphic is smaller, etc. Why? Why? Why?. Everything worked just fine like ti did. Change for the sake of change seems nonproductive to me. The only advantage to getting the new phones is now I get a .wav file of voicemails in my email. While on the outset this seems to me to be just another email to delete, the .wav files will prove to provide hours of amusement with a little audacity editing.

the font is stretchy and crampy and I like the colored tabs for drunken wayfinding. :-(

I love it.

Excellent redesign, my eyes thank the individuals involved in such a task.

Not only is it easy on the eyes, I can see it FAR more clearly on my television when I want to use that as my monitor. Previously, Fark would only be visible on my monitor, now its good on any monitor/TV.

Thanks for making Fark even more enjoyable, especially when we don't want to get off the couch/bed :)

Don't care for the font, but I'll get over it. However, my cursor vanishes when I roll over the gray maps on the right side of the screen, so it's hard to get to the up/down scroll thingie.

What browser/OS are you using? Also - if you can put up a screenshot or send one to meg[nospam-﹫-backwards]kraf*com, that would be helpful. My cursor is almost more visible on the grey than it is on the white background.

Works on my PC but not on my mobile

2011-05-26 09:31:07 PM
Why did you move the Geek and Business tab?

/Just out of curiosity considering the Business tab is more deserted than the Geek tab

The alternating background colors for headlines in New Fark isn't working. I checked the setting in the preferences tab and they are still there, and it works fine in Classic Fark.

I like being able to alternate the background colors, it makes the headlines much more readable.

This is a quite a layered response if you consider both your joke, and then the filter.

EsteeFlwrPot: But if the tabs look like links, what's the point of calling them tabs anymore?

I like being able to alternate the background colors, it makes the headlines much more readable.

You know... we thought we'd leave it out and see if anyone noticed...........

No, really.

So there's a good chance we'll put it back in.

2011-05-26 09:33:31 PM
Can they space out the tab names a bit more? They look like they're all cramped to the left side of the page

2011-05-26 09:33:38 PM
meg : Are you going to incorporate comment notifications into a little box on the right hand side, I think that was advertised in the original previews. I'm just curious if that is still in the works or if that idea has been shelved. I would love a form of notifications that doesn't spam my email.

2011-05-26 09:33:43 PM
I'd be willing to give my $5 again if you can cater to the mainstream, instead of the wacko-liberal northeast. No wonder you're aligned with ESPN. Are the Redsoxpinstripeyanks on tonight?

Yep, that's definitely going to happen. It was taking more time that we originally estimated so we finally just decided to launch without it. We will be adding it, though.

2011-05-26 09:35:26 PM
I liked it better before it got all popular and sold out.

2011-05-26 09:35:28 PM
Oh yeah, I like it except 2 things. I HATE the textured background and like the guy above said, I like the colored tabs. These links are a little too "look at my blog its 2003 and I have a blog so I am cool"

2011-05-26 09:35:44 PM

meg: John Paul Jones: Overall, I dig it. The comment spacing needs to be set back to where it was though. Far too cramped.

Just goes to show, we can't please everyone :-).

We showed it off in beta, people said the font was too small. We made the font bigger, and then we had people telling us it was too big.

We had complaints that there was WAY too much whitespace, so we tried to fix that, and then other people think it's too cramped.

WE TRY TO MAKE YOU HAPPY, PEOPLE. Honest. It's just hard sometimes!

I still love you Meg, it's okay. But keeping it the way it was is BETTER, DAMMIT.

2011-05-26 09:35:48 PM
Holy crap, you basically fixed everything I asked you too. It does look better than the first showing. It could honestly use less space after the last line of a comment, but if people are saying cramped now, they'll say it more then. It definitely feels less squeezed than the last run, and the font is better.

Still confused why highlighting text turns it purple.

So you get a thanks for listening, and I'll probably get over it. Still like the old better, and the old version before that, but this isn't bad.

2011-05-26 09:36:07 PM
Oh, I'm the only one who felt I'd stumbled into Cave Johnson's 1950s version of Fark. Well, I'm clearly outvoted and I can live with that.
