Chupacabra Sandwich: Now we need a Food tab

Seconded.

2011-05-26 09:13:48 PM
I like it.

2011-05-26 09:13:49 PM
I'll get over it.

/what, that was used already?

2011-05-26 09:14:07 PM
If I already like it, does that mean I've gotten under it?

2011-05-26 09:14:23 PM
I didn't think I would like this but after browsing around a bit I can definitely see the improvements.

LegacyDL: It needs to look more like Gawker.

/ducks

Nah, we need to do them one better and put in THREE independently scrolling columns.

2011-05-26 09:14:42 PM
For some reason, the Fark I'm viewing seems to be the new one. June 1st, shumune 1st.

2011-05-26 09:14:59 PM
I thought you said June 1st?

2011-05-26 09:15:19 PM

SN1987a goes boom: For some reason, the Fark I'm viewing seems to be the new one. June 1st, shumune 1st.

Same here.

2011-05-26 09:15:32 PM
Hmm. Since I'm not paying for this, I can't complain. But then again, I don't see why people get their panties in a wad over simplistic site designs. (At least the main page isn't full of flash, and you don't have to flip through links on a damn slideshow.)

2011-05-26 09:15:33 PM
I must say I dislike the dotty world background and the "Also on Fark" at the bottom.
The whole thing seems far too busy, more irrelevant crap to ignore. And the bar at the top... I liked the coloured tabs!
The wife says "shiat, its like Fark is trying to be businesslike!"

eggrolls: If I already like it, does that mean I've gotten under it?

You'll get down on it.

2011-05-26 09:16:16 PM
Adblock and NoScript work fine on it, so I'm good with it.

2011-05-26 09:16:23 PM

Chupacabra Sandwich: Tighter is better.

Daaaaammmnnnn straight!

2011-05-26 09:16:40 PM
another fark redesign, another shrinking of the content to put in more ads.

and ironically the whole reason the site was made is not safe for the site anymore.

Can I get a greenlight on the new Fark?

/not over it yet
//not ever.

Wanebo: You people can't keep a secret at all, can you?

They are just doing some social conditioning so there isn't a mass of whiny babies come June 1st saying how the "redesign sucks", "Drew sold out to advertisers", "they are never coming to fark again"... blah blah blah.... This is just to take a little wind out of their sails by letting them see the redesign and by June 1st, they're over it and hopefully don't whine and scare advertisers.

2011-05-26 09:17:42 PM
"Real news. Real funny." Ha, that sucks and is totally dumb and cliche and corny. Default font should be comic sans and a little bigger and the comment section centered with the links and ads on both sides.

If I can't make my browser display the old site, does that mean I live in the future?

2011-05-26 09:18:15 PM

meg: WE TRY TO MAKE YOU HAPPY, PEOPLE. Honest. It's just hard sometimes!

LOL you said 'hard'.

People don't like change, but people forget easily. Facebook changes all the time and people complain about it for about a week, and then get used to it, and eventually the previous looks are sent to play with our distant memories.

The top tabs need some...tabbinating...or something. Just lonely words floating in the aether is disconcerting.

/over it

2011-05-26 09:18:49 PM

Mad_Radhu: WTF Indeed: elchip: Not only will I not get over it, I'll create a rival site and lead a mass exodus to it.

Rereddit?

Nuke the cache and don't click on this thread.

I think it is a little overkill on the gray...but if it hasn't been said already, let me be the first, I'll get over it

PYROY: If I can't make my browser display the old site, does that mean I live in the future?

No, but it means there might be a bug.... what happens when you click the "Go back to old Fark' link on the right-hand side?

2011-05-26 09:19:11 PM

Mad_Radhu: Much better. The rainbow colored tabs of the last design were a little too fabulous for me. This is much cleaner. My only complaint is that there seems to be a little too much white space in the comment page headers.

you shut your mouth, I love my skittles tabs

There is already a Stylish script for it, FWIW.

El_Swino: Adblock and NoScript work fine on it, so I'm good with it.

I've never seen an advertisement on Fark, Ever.
I still get an odd feeling when I use someone elses computer and see adds on facebook or fark.... You get spoiled by ad blockers.

What's with the wasted vertical space at the top of the page? A whole line for "Real news, real funny?" Giant-sized Main/Geek/Business tabs which, despite their size, need giant-sized margins? Then another giant-sized date on it's own line which, since it's not clickable really doesn't need to be big. If a user is having trouble reading, maybe they could just figure out how to tell their browser to embiggen everything instead of inflicting it on everyone?

And more margin on the left... why?

The fonts look smooth on my Mac, but really jagged on Win/Firefox

Laptops dude. They have small screens that their users must put up with, in much the same way that Mrs. Jvl must put up with small equipment.

Meh, it's just a new coat of paint... does a new css file really count as a redesign?

2011-05-26 09:20:05 PM
I like the new font and the new comment spacing. I dislike the right side light blue font on medium gray background or the top gray on other gray theme. It's less jarring than our current rainbow of tabs, but pretty != usable.

2011-05-26 09:20:12 PM
I sent a complaint via feedback last week, but my shiatty work hasn't upgraded beyond Internet Explorer 6, and it's beyond job description to make that change happen, but based on what I saw, the new Fark doesn't display properly in IE 6. Hopefully this gets fixed, or we at least have the ability to still use the old Fark.

vabeard: See: Gawker

no, the basic layout of nuFARK is the same. gawker threw out their old layout completely, and replaced it with one that tried to cram every web2.0 technology into a single page.

2011-05-26 09:20:29 PM
But if the tabs look like links, what's the point of calling them tabs anymore?

2011-05-26 09:20:45 PM
Kind of bland, but I'm already over it.

More background space so you don't miss the tabs paid for by advertisers.

2011-05-26 09:21:27 PM
Ew.

2011-05-26 09:21:36 PM
Hey, it doesn't suck!

2011-05-26 09:21:37 PM

D_Evans45: Looks pretty good, but the gray bar at the top could use some sprucing up. I understand why the text would be aligned towards the bottom for links you aren't currently at, but it looks bland.

Agree about gray bar and the topics section, bland and have a lot of space around them. I have a 1280/800 monitor and i'm pretty much halfway down before getting to the first link. Seems to be more whitespace between the links than the previous version.

Ctrl Shift - for me.

Likey. Fark's been a bit of a clown since the last change. Much less clown like now.
