(Politico)   Old and busted: Gingrich got a $500,000 interest-free line of credit at Tiffany's. New hotness: The line of credit was extended just as Tiffany's started lobbying the committee that Gingrich's wife worked for   (politico.com) divider line 98

It makes me greatly happy that I'm going to get to see Newt Gingrich fail so spectacularly for a second time in my life, and that his second failure, more like a shooting star than a supernova this time, will still be every bit as intensely beautiful as his first.

mitchcumstein1: What the fark could Tiffany's possibly have to lobby about?

FTFA: Filings by Tiffany's lobbyist, Cassidy & Co., and other government records show that the firm's spending on "mining law and mine permitting-related issues" in Congress, as well as the Forest Service, the Interior Department, and Interior's Bureau of Land Management shot up sharply between during the period when Callista Gingrich was chief clerk at the House Agriculture Committee.

In related news apparently the Forest Service is under the purview of the Agriculture committee.

... Yes, the US Forest Service is a subsidiary of the United States Department of Agriculture. In fact, those things we call "trees" are actually considered a harvested resource, and are sometimes managed in a fashion similar to some farms (at least for a short amount of time).

Yeah, because getting a mortgage at a rate that other folks with the same credit were getting is the same as a half-million dollar zero interest line of credit.

But both sides are bad, right?

To any even-tempered person, this is just another example of a politician getting something that the rest of us can't because he holds some sort of power - remember, politicians are more equal than others. Douche-worthy? Maybe. More like "just yet another slimey politician."

To most of the progressives on Fark, though, he's a criminal because he's a Republican caught doing something somewhat underhanded. Only Republicans can be guilty of scandals - no Democrats. When it's a Democrat caught doing it, it's "to help the poor" or something, so it's excusable. No excuses for Republicans, though.

And.... the other shoe drops.

It would be more fun watching the republican clown parade of presidential hopefuls flame-out if they would do it a little slower. I'm going to have to replay a few of these campaigns in slow-mo to catch the details.

Don't get me wrong, I hate both parties fervently and I am continually disgusted by the self-deluding bullshiat that the left leaning Farkers on the Politics tab let themselves fall for.

That said, do you actually read what the fark people write here or do you just do some kind of puppet show for yourself in front of the screen that you then blame on the "progressives" of Fark?

Why would I read the article? I get to talk with intelligent and reasonable people like yourself when I don't.

2011-05-25 10:19:52 PM
From the weasel himself: "Go talk to Tiffany's," he said. "It's a standard, no-interest account."

Yes thats right. Just like the standard no interest accounts we all get from stores. Why I don't think anyone has ever asked for interest on store credit before, its perfectly normal people.

Even if all their rich clients get it, its still a fine example of why everyone else should farking hate you.

Were you playing your tiny sad violin while typing that, or was it prerecorded? I couldn't tell through the muffled sobbing for those poor downtrodden Republicans, who may now have to pay 5% interest on their Tiffany loans.

By the way - in life, people don't make fun of you as much if you chose to be honest. You can also say "this is bad" without forcing yourself to say "but they are so much worse!". It still counts as adding to the conversation.

2011-05-25 10:21:14 PM
An interest free line of credit...so, he or his wife sees something they like, put it on credit, and they have to pay it back. And how is this bad??? It's not like Tiffany's is giving them free jewerly, just interest free loans.

The real problem is we have members of congress who think that using credit (creating more debt when you have the farking money to pay it off in the first place) is a good thing.
