Jellyfish isn't necessarily tasty on its own, but it has a great texture and cooked in a thai sauce it is delicious.

Hmm hey, if they keep catching jellyfish by the ton, wouldn't that make the jellyfish go extinct fast? I'm not sure how fast jellyfish reproduce but if you're getting thousands or millions of them everyday, it just might force them to extinction :O

Oh they's all kinda ways to fix shrimp. They's shrimp sandwich, shrimp scampi...

THREE HOURS LATER

...and shrimp & jellyfish in thai sauce.

I think that's about it.

Too lazy to find citations, esp. for a specific species, but I've seen several atricles about overpopulation (of jellies) causing problems with fishing operations in east Asia.

You are eating aquatic slime mold. I ate a (boiled) black widow on a bet, once. It tasted like crab. Fitting, since spiders evolved from crabs, just like lobsters became scorpions.

JELLYFISH BECAME SLIME MOLD.

I hope I made my point.

Jeez, have we overfished the oceans that much. Every few years it seems some hot new fish comes along that used to be considered bycatch...

TFA didn't say anything about anything being overfished. He's fishing for jellies because the cheap imported shrimp lessens the the demand for his more expensive shrimp. That's good for the shrimp population.

I don't think commercial fishermen care. They wonder why they have smaller and smaller catches every year, and don't seem to give a fark that they are over fishing the ever living shiat out of the ocean.

I recall something about global warming causing a jellyfish population explosion... something about the salinity or ph or something. Or perhaps it was the yrr.

Lets see... Looks like $3600 a day, minus expenses. Up in the million dollar a year gross range.

What are the expenses on a boat like that running at a slow trawl? Might actually be a good gig, lower pressure than something with a short season and limited catch.

2011-05-23 03:35:33 PM
Really though....jellyfish are on the evolutionary rise. I expect great things from them in the next several million years.

I always get a laugh at Chilean sea bass and tilapia, and the people who eat them thinking they're some sort of new delicacy.

Mise well just be eating freshwater sunfish. You're eating crap.

But I need my omegas!

Fish is a rare treat, when I've caught it myself from waters not completely polluted with mercury, PCBs, and dioxins.

Upon deeper reading it looks more like a processing bottle neck, not anything rules related. So if the processor could expand or if multiple competitors fired up it could become a few trips each week instead of one.

I'd like to invest in a new company selling products to China for a change.

how does one cook it? or eat it? like jam on a cracker? the slimey factor would really have to make for interesting cooking techniques. doesnt seem like you could even batter it and deep fry it as it would just melt away..

Nothing wrong with freshwater sunfish. Bluegill and pumpkinseeds fry up real nice.
