I haven't read the book in ten years, but my understanding of it was to have the kids lose their virginity at seven and fark as many of each other as possible to learn that sex was a natural thing.

Since I grew up in a neighborhood with girls my age (a pair of twins), and we had to find a way to be unsupervised to do what little boys and girls do (which, in my case, was everything but fark), I think it's pretty sad how the "taboo" sexual attitude takes root at a VERY young age. Maybe Huxley was on to something. Get them started when they're too young to impregnate each other, and move them to condoms or the Pill when puberty hits.

As natural and chic as it is to go in the buff, if there is one thing more natural than nakedness, it's the urge to reproduce as soon as possible after the on-set of puberty. It's been studied, doesn't need anymore done, and shouldn't require links citing source since it's common sense.

Put boys and girls together in an age range in which they are, more or less, constantly horny and possing a mind clouded by emotions, and shiat is going to happen. Doesn't matter how well they can control their bodies. Tempt one enough and the shiat will hit the fan.

In humans, everything is learned by imitation. You don't know how to go and mate until you see it happen. Yes, it is a natural urge, but it doesn't happen unless it is taught.

Putting naked boys and girls together will not automatically create a huge orgy.

Actually, the idea was to break down any sense of individuality in the child. Institutional sex abuse as a means of political control for the rest of thier lives. The idea was basically to prove to the child, in a very visceral way, that thier body didn't belong to them but to the community. And whatever the community wanted to do to them was 'normal'.

That book was one of the hardest things to read. Along with 1984 and Animal Farm. Not in terms of ability, but in terms of comprehension - there are some very scary parallels in modern society to Huxley's Brave New World. Parallels I'd rather not see come to pass.

The reason why this lady thinks this is a bad idea is cause if her kids were in the camp they would be shagging all night. It's more likey that kids who have no experience with nudity might be more apt to get in trouble. Teenagers in genral are going to be more tempted if theres naked girls around. It almost doesn't matter either way. If theres a co-ed teenage camp something is going to go bump in the night.

I beg to differ. Household pets, who have never seen their own species mate, will nonetheless produce offspring. There's no reason to believe the human animal is any different.

Trouble is, in our modern media culture where sex is everywhere, it borders on impossible to test the zoology (maybe you could do it with chimpanzees since they're our closest evolutionary cousins.)

There was a time in my life when I thought Brave New World was an ideal to which to strive. The idea of a neat, clean set of class divisions appealed to me when I was a confused little kid looking for a place.

But now, as an adult, I should probably go back and read the book again...I bet I'd find the world quite different. Especially since I renounced fascism as a worldview around age 19-20. (I was a borderline Nazi in my teens, and yes, I look back with disgust and regret at my youth.)

God, just up the lower age limit, say at least 17, bring in protection by the truck loads.

Huxley wasn't talking about facism in Brave New World tho, he was talking about a totalatarian government. And a society that expunged individuality, ethics, morality, religion from public life and replaced it with mindless hedonism.

Now, on the surface you might think that's kinda cool. But imagine for a moment not having any sorts of significant other. No friends. No wife. No mother. No brother. No father. No sister. Intellectual discussions such as this one would get you executed. Attempting to do anything outside the bounds of your Caste assignment would get you reconditioned or killed.

no matter which way they encourage the kids to think about nudity, at that age it's totally sexual. if they think these kids are just out being natural and organic, they're lying to themselves. those years were not long ago for me and all that echoed in my head all day was SEX!
