Thank you guys for posting that. I marched with the Boston Crusaders in 92 and with the Star of Indiana from 93-95. I was also a volunteer at ground zero for several days. This clip was very moving and it meant a lot to me.

I haven't joined yet, but i probably will get into this summer. DCI rocks, i go see their shows everytime they are around the Los Angeles area. And then, just for all my friends...

Santa Clara Vanguard kicks ass

I am amazed to see so many people envolved in DCI here. That rocks! I agree, that clip rocked. Go DCI. I personaly am a Blue Devils and Cavies fan, but the Crusaders and Phantom have to be at the top of the list. I am from Indiana and have ties to star, and know some people who now march with Blast. Great to hear from fellow DCI people.

Phantom did a show way back in like 95 of Stavinsky's "Firebird". Probably the best show I've ever seen...gave me chills!

At the end, they're doing this huge company front march towards the sideline, and the music's blaring....they come to the line to park and blow the last couple measures...then all of a sudden the drum major stops conducting (the band keeps going though), bends down, turns around, and takes a picture of the people in the stands! He gave a big wave and then turned back around to finish the show. Frickin awesome, man.

'73 Stockton Commodores. (im not that old, but thier show that year kicked ass.) I have a friend trying out for the Madison Scouts, The Cavs, and the Blue Devils. He's pretty good. I taught him how to march. :)
2001-10-24 08:58:56 AM
DCI does rock! I havn't been able to get to a show in over 10 years, but I still remember it vividly. I never even new about it when I was in high school. Sure wish I had. What a way to spend a summer! Oh well, one thing I'll never get to do in my life! Anyways, awesome video, thanks whoever posted it!

I'm glad to hear that DCI is well known in the Fark community. I marched Blue Devils 95 and 97, and I played that medly twice. No matter how cheezy it seems, it got me pretty choked up when I just watched it.
2001-10-24 09:08:54 AM
For a second I thought Quick1 had said "best mellotron part ever," and I was wondering what the hell kind of drum corps that would be.
2001-10-24 09:17:13 AM
Another sax playing DCI member wanna-be, although I aged out some time ago. That was beautiful. I haven't made it to a live DCI show yet but I'm definitely going to someday. (None of the major ones come through the Kansas City area...sigh) I've got to stop watching moving stuff at my desk at work, though. One of these days my boss is going to come in and see me blubbering and then I'll have to explain myself. :P
2001-10-24 09:40:40 AM
Same as above....DCI rocks!
2001-10-24 10:10:41 AM
I marched General Butler Vagabonds '99-2000, and hopefully I'm going to Madison this summer on baritone. I'm actually a sax player, but I learned bari just so I could march.

Oh, and after many submissions, this is my boobies. Yes, I'm happy this was it, too.
2001-10-24 10:14:07 AM
You know what I mean
2001-10-24 10:32:08 AM
Finals are gonna be in Madison next year
2001-10-24 11:04:56 AM
Hey Isol8d - Magic Front Ensemble, '95 :) finals were in Buffalo that year...

Favorite corps would have to be Blue Devils, Cadets, Madison, and Phantom... Cavs are ok, too...

God I loved Drum Corps... not for the peopl, 'cause well, frankly, most of the people that I met in Corps were self-promoting, arrogant pricks, but DAMN did I enjoy just BEING there...

*sniff* goes to pound on his drum set for a bit....
2001-10-24 01:34:12 PM
Gee how many people here from Magic? My bro marched magic for several years. I would try to approximate, but I'd probably get the dates wrong.
2001-10-24 02:23:28 PM
I had no idea so many farkers were familiar with DCI. I love it, although I've never been in one. I've seen most of the DCI groups in person, and tried out for the Cavaliers drum line and of course didn't make it. Over 2000 people try out for the drums and i think ten are allowed in. Eh..cavaliers aren't great anyway...NO BOOBIES! Just wieners as far as the eye can see...
2001-10-24 04:32:06 PM
As long as we're bringing up drum corps memories:
I marched with the Saginaires (Saginaw MI) from 82-84. I played Baritone in 82 and went to Contra 83-84. Joined the Marine Corps after high school. Played Contra in USMC Drum Corp (Albany, GA) 85-86. Honorable Discharge (medical reasons) in 86. Played Contra with Northern Aurora (Saginaw, MI) in 87, turned 21 during that season.
2001-10-24 11:24:40 PM
Im trying out for Crusaders drumline this year I hope. I miss drum corps. I was never actually in it, but I was in high school band. But it wasnt just a normal pep band.....we were a competing band. Like DCI junior. I was in drumline, and one of our instructors was also an instructor for the Crusaders and he encouraged me to try out. The only reason I didnt do it the last 2 years was the money.

But on a side note, I expected to click this and be insulted by all the people saying DCI sucks. Its cool that I didnt see any. I love it.

I have been known to write pit percussion parts in my day. 'Twas fun, except for mosquitoes in Itta Bena and gnats in South Carolina.
