Yeah, it's not like the draft lottery has ever been rigged before.

Came here to say exactly that.

It's supposed to be a shiatty draft year. Even if the lottery actually was rigged, there's only so much a team can do with it.

If Cleveland couldn't win with Lebron, they sure ain't gonna win with whatever spares they get with these two picks.

2011-05-18 02:30:14 PM
Well, they rigged it so Cleveland got LeBron in the first place, so why not?

2011-05-18 02:34:58 PM
Story fails -- first NBA draft was in 1947, not 1985 (that was the first lottery year)

They won plenty with LeBron...

The lottery only selects the top 3 picks. The team with the second worst record but two lottery picks (and probably the best chances to win), wins the number 1 pick and actually loses with their other pick by dropping OUT of the top 3, and people call conspiracy?

If anything this is just another LOL@Clippers moment where they win the draft lottery... but had traded that pick away.

As much as I want to see more Canadians in the NBA, I think it was a mistake for Tristan Thompson to declare. First off I'd be shocked if there is a NBA season next year, the sides seem to be too far apart. Second, he's still a little undersized for a NBA Power Forward. He should've stayed at Texas and bulked up a little and worked on his jump shot. The Mock Drafts currently available have Thompson going Top-10, so there really isn't a lot of room for improvement in terms of draft position. It is more a case of being NBA ready from Day 1 or pulling a Jermaine O'Neal and spending 2+ years anchored to the bench.

Isn't that such a Cleveland sports thing? They hit the proverbial jackpot in the draft lottery (two top 5's!) on a year when the draft class suuuuuuuucks.

But hey, not all players can be bad. I'm sure a few of them will even turn out to be quality starters. But they're not going to have the immediate impact that a LeBron, Carmello, Wade, Dwight Howard, or Rose had.

What I'm trying to say is put $100 on the Cavs having the #1 pick again next year. And about #8 in 2013 :-(

2011-05-18 03:02:52 PM
Maybe Cleveland can draft the true chosen one this time, and not just some false prophet.

Jiminy Crickets, Golden State doesn't have their pick next year? What basketball God did we get for that?

Sounds like the T-Wolves are willing to trade down. Cleveland should get the #2 from them and start next season with Irving and Williams. That would be fun.

And by next season I mean the season after the lockout.

I realize that there's a whole "irrational hatred of LeBron given how long it's been since his announcement" thing going on in the world, but if you see anyone close to LeBron in this draft then I'd like to ask what you're on.

Guys, I know this guy in Utah that really follows the game of basketball, and he tells me this "Jimmy" Fredette is by far the best player in the draft, and is the next coming of Pistol Pete but like, an even BETTER Pistol Pete. We're talking Sniper Jimmer here.

I really love how they conveniently forget that LeBron put the entire Cavs roster on his back and carried them to the 2007 NBA Finals.

It was definitely rigged. The T-wolves got a top two pick.

I don't even care. I'm not from Cleveland, and I don't really follow basketball. I dislike James BECAUSE he has a tattoo on his back that says "Chosen One". I can't fathom that level of narcissism.

That being said, I think it's perfectly rational for Cleveland fans to hate him.

I knew that Cavs would get it when their rep was the owner's (or GM's?) cancer kid. Who is going to tell that kid that his team doesn't get the #1 pick?

I'm pretty sure that's memory has been selectively erased from the greater Cleveland consciousness. Like in video games when a certain player hasn't given his permission for his likeness to be used, the 2007 Cleveland Cavaliers had some guy wearing #23 named Leroy Jamison who was pretty good.

The lottery actually selects all 13 picks, but your point is still accurate. According to wikipedia, they had a 22.7% chance of getting the #1 pick, with 2.8% of that coming from the Clippers pick.

Unfortunately for Lebron, the season didn't end when they made it to the finals. Revisionist history, anyway.

Seriously. I watched that game against the Pistons with my jaw on the floor. Even if he hasn't stepped up in some big spots, how anybody can claim that he doesn't have it in him is beyond me.

Cleveland I can understand. But the animosity from the world in general is more than a little over the top to me, egomaniac or no.

This the the opposite of irrational. If you can't hate an athlete for what LeBron did, what can you hate them for? Cleveland can get all the picks they want, but it's not going to make up for The Decision. It's Buckner. It's Bartman. It's the one sports moment you never air again in Cleveland.

Jeez, I'll grant that it was extremely boring, but where in 'The Decision' does he take out a scale model of Cleveland and take a dump on it?

It was the wrong way to go about things, yeah, but don't hate him for that. It's totally sensible to ditch a shiatty company that wasted your talent for years and years.

Hate him for his incredible shallowness, his inability to understand how his words sound to other people, and for his continued decision to go after the spotlight rather than shut up and play. All things which were well-evidenced before the Decision. The problem with all the Clevelanders jumping on the hate train post-Decision is that HE'S THE SAME EXACT farkING JERK HE WAS BEFORE, BUT YOU ASSHOLES ATE THAT shiat UP BECAUSE HE WAS YOUR GUY. And that's plain dumb.

The conspiracy is that Cleveland, Minnesota, and Utah got top picks?

Devo: Jiminy Crickets, Golden State doesn't have their pick next year? What basketball God did we get for that?

In 2008, Golden State got Marcus Williams from the Nets for a future first round pick. That pick was traded to the Jazz this year. The pick is sort of protected though through the next few years. But it's likely to be a lottery pick the Jazz will get.

The Cavs were awarded LeBron by the same crooked system.

The T-Wolves get a high pick to try to quell all the "Free Kevin Love" talk.

A while ago, they had Portland and Seattle go because Boston couldn't have it because they tanked. Plus Stern was going to let Bennett take Seattle's team, so since there were two top guys it was a "here, Northwest, you can have one top pick and my buddy can have the other to help him out when he moves the team."

I can create reasons for any team that's won.

Did they actually show the ping-pong balls being picked this year? The only times I've seen it, that part is done in a closed back room and then they bring out the envelopes.

Wombatzu: Sounds like the T-Wolves are willing to trade down. Cleveland should get the #2 from them and start next season with Irving and Williams. That would be fun.

OR...

Since Minny says they just want some veteran help...can CLE just give them some vet and get the #2...thereby having the #1, 2, and 4 picks? Take Irving, Williams, and Kanter and call it your core.

That's what I would do on Association mode on 2k11, anyway.

OR...

Take Irving, Williams, and Knight, knowing the Jazz would trade their souls for Knight, have them take Kanter for you, and take whatever else you can get for Knight in a trade to Utah.

OR...

The lottery only determines the top 3 picks, while picks #4 and on are slotting by record.
