I've only seen her in Brokeback Mountain, but it was a great performance. Might see this.

Also: Link (new window)

According to Cracked, the 1939 classic was actually number 11 in a long line of remakes and adaptations.

Unnecessary or not, anything that gets Raimi back into the director's chair (as opposed to producing lesser talents) is fine by me.

I've been in love with that woman ever since the pilot of Dawson's Creek. She arrived in a taxi and came out smoking hot, drawing the gaping mouths of Dawson and Pacey, and also caused the disgust of Joey to be directed at her two friends.

Then, later in the episode when Joey was changing, Jen told Joey that she "had nice breasts."

I waited six years, six farking years for the payoff to that and I got nothing.

And this. First book I ever read was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and my family had editions of all 14, so I read them all, in a row, many times. They're great books for a growing kid.

Oz remake? (new window, NSFYC)

And here we have final and irrefutable proof of Hollywood's intellectual bankruptcy. Their current fetish for rehashing other people's ideas is sickening enough, but to rehash [ruin] this one is inexcusable.

As long as they don't pull any of this 'reimagined' bullshiat, or make it a farking musical, I'll give it a chance.

I take it you've never seen Wicked (new window), then.

Which, I hear, is being considered for a movie version. Subby referred to two in the headline, but TFA didn't mention what the other one was. Was hoping for more info on Wicked, actually...my girlfriend is a big fan.

CyberDave: TFA didn't mention what the other one was.

I think it's this (new window)
(bonus Jeffrey Combs and Christopher Lloyd in the same movie)

And the one from TFA is a prequel of sorts - dealing with how the wizard originally ended up in Oz.

Never have, but it sounds like an interesting take on the story. Wouldn't mind seeign it as a movie. Hollywood just needs to stop with the 'Lolipop Guild' bullshiat.

F*ck you, mods, for greenlighting the only submission that spelled Glinda's name wrong. Probably because you're farking idiots and didn't know it was spelled wrong. Assholes. fark you. Seriously.

As others have noted, it's Glinda. Dickheads. fark. Is that really so hard?

Now I know how to get a greenlight, not that I ever bother, after looking at the queue. Jesus fark, what idiocy. And these idiots criticize actual journalists? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Nothing Hollywood does or has ever done has been "necessary."

Movies are made to make money.

Just accept that very simple fact and your life will be much happier and less angst-ridden.

Mila Kunis will be in this... I hope she plays the wicked witch of the west because I would love for her to ride my broom stick!

Well, seeing as how the 1939 classic was itself "reimagined bullshiat" (and a remake of several previous Wizard of Oz movies) I'm not quite sure what you're getting at.

I, for one, am amused that this is the kind of inane crap that happens when copyright is about to expire.

According to Fark all movies are unnecessary and we should all just go back to watching rocks do nothing.

Musicals are ridiculous. A bunch of loons running around on stage in costumes prancing around and singing. Who farking cares? And a re-make of the Wizard of Oz? How good could it be?

Yeah, that's what I thought before I actually went and saw Wicked. Completely changed my tune. The story was awesome, the dialogue and acting was hilarious and it was wildly entertaining. Started me on seeing more musicals and it's still by far the best one.

Either way, the feature film version of Wicked is based on the book and not on the musical. It will not be a musical.

At least, that's what I heard.

The book is brilliant. I think adding showtunes to a story like that was a good way to kill all the gravitas and depth.

It's just a bit like making a musical version of Dune.

I have heard these Wicked rumors and am only excited in the possibility that it will stick closer to the book than the musical.

Michelle Williams is awesome in everything she's in. Her work in in 'Me Without You' was maybe the most underrated acting performance in the last 15 years (and an amazing film dealing with rarely investigated complexity of long standing childhood friendships). But she seems particularly powerful in roles where she's in a perpetual depressive state ... I wonder how that parlays to Glinda.

If it doesn't have more nightmare fuelthan Return To Oz (new window), I'm not interested. There's so few PG movies out there that can make a 6 year old wake up screaming in the middle of the night, and Hollywood needs to step up!
