True. It's so unfair that I can't wear my white sheet and hood when I teach. And those meanies have totally screwed up the Saturday evening lynching parties. Darn that majority!

I heard this mormon speak back in 198...8, I think. He was funny.

Guess he'll have to stick with talking to mormon kids.

Remember that guy a few weeks ago who got bombarded with water balloons for being an attention whore who wanted to burn the flag, and how I was all good with it because free speech comes with consequences?

I'd feel the same way about this guy, if I wasn't so stunned that an Olympic male gymnast was straight.

FTA: The most recent poll conducted by Pew showed that more people oppose same-sex marriage than support it, 48 to 42 percent.

Public figures: Don't you dare have a dissenting opinion from the more vocal minority.

Hint, unless your the boss, don't be surprised if airing your opinions gets you in trouble. Especially when your boss might be also running youth development programs where your shtick can only do harm.

Remember--it's important to read the polls before you speak out on an issue. Beliefs be damned--what's important is making sure others like you and you're not seen as a threat.

If you are concerned about whether your position on a subject is correct, please submit your current stance to the Ministry of Public Information. Allow two weeks for your beliefs to be vetted and approved, please. We appreciate your patience.

Presumably, if he'd spoken about his opposition to miscegenation, you guys would still be supporting him and his position as a role model, right?

He's an unmarried Mormon gymnast.

I think he's got more in the closet than just clothes and skeletons.

This has been an interesting couple of weeks in sports. You've got Vidmar being forced to resign for being publicly bigoted. Then Sean Avery makes a pro-marriage equality PSA and everybody hates themselves for siding with Sean Avery on anything, while in the meantime the hockey agents who criticized him got massive public flack including from current NHL players, and a Canadian sports broadcaster who tweeted his disapproval of same-sex marriage got fired for it. Then the president of the Phoenix Suns comes out in the NY Times, and the next day a former Villanova forward announces on ESPN.com that he was out to his teammates for almost his entire college career and that none of his teammates cared. Oh yeah, and Charles Barkley just proclaimed that any NBA player who thinks they've never played with a gay teammate is an idiot, and that it shouldn't be an issue.

Maybe things really are changing for the better.

Is he advocating it at his job? Is he treating the people where he works differently? Has there been any accusation of impropriety on his part?

The president of USA Gymnastics called Vidmar the most inclusive man he had ever met. You can do a job and keep your personal beliefs out of it--because that's what you're supposed to do.

There are WAY too many people on both sides of the aisle who are just waiting to slap their particular litmus test on anyone and everyone. It annoys the hell out of me.

swahnhennessy: Sean Avery did what now?

Shocking decided to stop being a jerk for a moment and made a PSA in support of gay marriage (new window).

A rather hilarious PSA considering that he claims he treats everyone like he would like to be treated, but a PSA none the less.

You almost have to admire a guy who goes so far out of his way to be a douche. I never knew cockeyed glasses were cool. But good on him for doing the right thing. He's the perfect sort to come out in support of gay marriage, too. Though you're right about the comment he makes regarding treating others how you want to be treated. Maybe he's a masochist.

He considers himself a fashion trend setter, what with his Vogue internship and his status as a perpetuall NY Fashion Week fixture, so how dare you cast aspersions on the coolness of his glasses.

Actually, I think he has terrible style, he should do what Vinny Lecavalier seems to do and just copy David Beckham.

THIS! The Mormons pushed Prop 8 to exert control over the lives of others and punish an unpopular minority. The pro gay marriage folks just want to be left alone and treated equally under the law. Of all groups, you would think the Mormons would abstain from punishing an unpopular minority. The whole things reeks of hypocrisy.

But 42 percent of the populace can throw water balloons at 48 of the populace, because free speech has consequences.

Whatever he did, Bettman pushed a rule change overnight, and now it's a two-minute minor.
