Holy. Freaking. Crap.

1:24 is the "this may be the last thing I ever see" moment

2011-05-16 12:28:15 PM
Hmmm... As freaky as that was, it seemed underwhelming. At least compared to the pictures of devastation I've seen from that tornado.

I didn't know Alabama had Mexicans.

Quick get get back inside and stand directly in front of the glass window. The GLASS window, will surely keep you safe.

I have seen a tornado that close.

It was only an F1, but still.

I used to always run to the window, or outside to see the "funnel cloud".

FARK THAT .... I hide like a baby now.

THAT is what you call a Southern Accent!

I was MUCH closer that the photographer was.

This one back in 1975 did it for me, I've gone downstairs for shelter ever since then. I remember how green the sky was from all of the hail and all of the damage afterwards.

No kidding. I sprung for hurricane glass in my house, and I still wouldn't stand in front of the window. Why push your luck.

What kind of pansy-ass tornado was that where not a single car was moved and no power lines actually came down? Looked more like a real strong rotating wind to me.

2011-05-16 02:57:01 PM
That is effing scary. The scariest tornado for me will live on on Youtube, this one hit my family's farm and was less than 100 metres (300ish feet) away from us. I still shake thinking about it.

Heck, I've had farts that caused more damage.

Uh... It's called 'wind.' Put a jacket on and chill out.

I'm done looking at "the scariest" videos of tornadoes and tsunamis. Sure, they've shown some horrific events, none of which I would want to be present for, but sorry...they just aren't scary. I daresay the one holding the camera wasn't scared either, or he/she would drop the damn thing and gather the children together to seek shelter.

2011-05-16 04:12:36 PM
That looks like it was taken from a motel room, not the guy's house.

2011-05-16 04:45:31 PM
I'm sorry, but you are an idiot if you stand in the window with a video camera in your hand as a tornado bears down on your location for the sole purpose of documenting the occasion. It's not worth your life.

\\ Grew up in the midwest. I've been in two tornados and have no desire to be in a third

I see that the INS tornadovac needs a little work.

To paraphrase Ron White, it's not that it's a high strong wind that's blowing, it's WHAT the high strong wind is blowing... So surviving an F1 might be just making sure you don't get hit by a tree or some nail-filled lumber even if it seems like the wind itself isn't going to get you.

At first I was like, 'meh', nice tornado, no big deal though. Then it sat in one place and got f'ing HUGE. No thanks, I'll stay in my bunker. If I had a bunker. I'd've been pissing myself if I had been behind one of those cameras.

can you farking idiotic submitards just link directly to youtube instead of some bullshiat site?

Not to be too nit-pickety, but there is no way in hell the tornado is "passing directly over" that guy like TFA claims. It was an F4 tornado, so had it actually been passing anywhere near overhead, that apartment building across the street would no longer be there. And the INCREDIBLY STUPID moran in the minivan who is driving through the parking lot directly into the path of the approaching tornado probably wouldn't have had a happy ending either.

That said, that guy was way still wayyy too close for comfort.

i thought they were outside as well. I thought they were under a outside wooden parking shelter or something.
then later the camera pans away, and it is revealed he was looking out a window with slat blinds.

or maybe you're right. maybe he was outside for the first bit then went inside.

My spanish is hardly fluent, but I can pick up bits and pieces here and there. At the beginning a someone is saying 'let's go', a woman in the background is saying 'oh my god' a bunch, and the camera man keeps mentioning the bathroom, so I'm guessing he was telling the others to go hide in the bathroom.

2011-05-16 09:50:10 PM
Part of that was recorded from INSIDE the tornado.

2011-05-16 10:03:03 PM
He better be gald that the tornado passed on his left when the funnel was over him. If it had passed to the right, that would have been 2x4's through the glas city.

Quick translation:

0:11
Woman's voice: "Oh, how ugly, I've never -- oh, God ..."
Man's voice: "Hey, let's go!"

0:13-20
Man's voice: "Get in the bathroom!" (children screaming in background) "Get in the bathroom, get in the bathroom! Get in the closet!"

0:25
Man's voice: "Get in the closet, Silvia!"

0:35
Man's voice: "May God take care of us, Silvia!"

0:44-47
Man's voice: "It's almost here, it's taking everything! It's coming this way!"

0:50
Woman's voice: (unintelligible)

0:54-58
Man's voice: "Get down, man! Get down, man!"

1:32
Man's voice: "Did you get inside?"

1:34-54
Man's voice: "Silvia! Get in here, get in here! (unintelligible) Oh, my God, Silvia, it's passing by us, it's passing by us."

Man #2: "Has it passed?"

Man #1: "No, no, almost, almost, it's finishing ... Oh, the car got moved a bit, it's passed, it's passed ... Oh my God ..."

2:04
(unintelligible voices)
Man #1: "Look what it did, Silvia ... no, Javier, leave it alone, fark your mother [literally, chinga tu madre; the Mexican version of "fark it"], leave it, nothing's happening."

2:24
Man #2: "We survived!"

2:36
Man (can't tell which): "We survived, but the truck's windows are broken."

Going though something like that never leaves you, no matter how big or small the damn thing is.

I was on Main St, at Weiss liquors cashing a paycheck, in Nashville TN when downtown got plowed on 4.16.98. It only took moments but it looked like a bomb went off after it passed. I can still see it like it was yesterday. Terrifying.
