Could be. Seems like every comic-related site has riffed on the old Marvel swimsuit issues at some point.

It's as if comic book nerds lack the empathy skills necessary to understand that the comic book artists who drew these pictures actually intended for them to be silly camp.

I'm a casual comic book reader at best and I find this disturbing.

How I long for those hedonistic days of the 90's - variants were all the rage, collector cards just sprang up with chase cards, hot girls on every cover and right when Marvel/Image hit critical mass - those were the good ole days...

Subby hasn't read the cosmic Marvel stuff lately, have you? That kind of defines muddled and silly mess.

It's funny, when I was younger (12, 13) I actually HAD the Marvel Swimsuit issue that contains about half of those images and, I can tell you Farkshower1972, I could. Oh, how I could...

Agreed. The New Guardians are awesome, Thanos is still my number 1 favorite badass, and it was nice to see most of the old Infinity Watch back in action.

DnA are awesome, period. Best thing to happen to Marvel in about three decades.

Rocket and Groot deserve a full series just for them.

Rocket and Groot got a secondary spot in the back half of the recent Annihilators book. I'm not sure how many are out now, but I'm sure there are a couple of issues in that run so far. The first half is the new Annihilators (Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, Ronan the Accuser, Silver Surfer, and Quasar) running for about 15 pages, then Rocket and Groot get the second story.

I would start with Annihilation:Conquest and move on to The DnA Guardians of the Galaxy.

The backup rocket/groot story in the current Annihilators just isn't quite thrilling me. The older Rocket stuff I've seen doesn't match the charm of Conquest/Guardians Rocket/Groot either.

DnA (and giffen et al) have made me love the marvel cosmic stuff from Annihilation onwards. Five years is a long run and a lot of my shelf space.

Don't start with Conquest. You really need to get the full story from as far as the first Annihilation. Conquest was good, but the weakest of the 4 big cosmic events (IMHO, and I'm not counting Realm of Kings as an event, since it was more of a establishment of a status quo in preparation of bigger stuff.) Personally, from best to worst, I'd rank the events as Thanos Imperative, War of Kings (very close second), Annihilation, Annihilation Conquest. But Conquest was important because it gave us the Guardians, and from what I've seen, DnA are at their best when dealing with D-list misfits, which is why I'm loving their Heroes for Hire series right now.

Annihilators is pretty weak (3 out of 4 issues out so far, incidentally). The Rocket and Groot backup is better, but still not as solid as it could be. I think that as awesome as they are, they really need the rest of the Guardians to work off of.

I like it because they're bringing back the Space Knights and Dire Wraiths. Pisses me off that they had to kill ROM off screen since they couldn't get the rights to him, but I like that they're bringing back a part of the Marvel U that hasn't been seen in a couple decades.

It's not the Knights and Wraiths I have a problem with, it's that the Annihilators themselves are coming off as pretty boring. And I don't know what's with the suddenly whiny Wendell Vaughan.

I was wondering if that was him, too. Looking back, I can see also that he did his usual job of managing to avoid drawing feet any chance he could. Cable has a cyborg foot showing, so hard for me to tell if that's normal or not.

The 90's were a strange, over-written, crudely drawn, muddled, bizarre time for Marvel.

And I love it so much.
