fark that. Deer meat is so over-hyped by hunters. I have never had Deer anything that tasted better then a well made hamburger or steak.

Why did the squirrel cross the road in Montgomery County?

To prove to the deer that it could be done.

Taste is always subjective but I would argue that you have not had well prepared venison. Not all I have had was amazing. But some has been incredible. Now elk.... wooooboy! Dems tasty eats!

It depends on the elk, but I have had some awesome elk. And venison done well can be superb, as with many other game meats.

2011-05-15 09:25:53 PM
It depends on what the deer eats. My uncles were both game hunters and were of the same opinion. Corn-fed farmland deer are tough, gamey and horrible. Natural grass-fed deer are quite tasty.

And I thought that New Jersey was using birth control on the deer a few years ago. Guess not.

So they shoot it with a tranq then use the drug. They should just use a bullet and save $999.

Deer can't be controlled by the church or scared into voting a certain way, so republicans don't care.

I was thinking they should just raise ugly, fat female deer. But that argument didn't stand up because I've never seen successful and attractive deer.

Doe vs Wade?

Oh deer.

Well, good for them for approving it's use. It's a government agency thinking ahead. While the product isn't practical for their current situation, it established approval procedures for similar products that may meet their needs in the future, and it's better to have an option on the table and not use it than not have the option at all.

Nobody hunts in Maryland?

Just extend the season.

"It will cost up to $1,000 to apply it to a deer," Peditto said. The deer must first be shot via dart gun to tranquilize it before Gonacon can be injected.

I know of a shot that's a lot cheaper.

This sounds like a way stupid idea. It's expensive, only lasts a year, will only be used on a small percentage of deer, and if it has the shot, you can't eat the meat. So if it's killed accidentally you can't even eat it.

It sounds more like "well, you can use this, we approve--but why would you bother?"

2011-05-15 09:32:40 PM
It may be the first use of this particular form of birth control (gonacon), but at Fire Island National Seashore, there is a bait station for deer with birth control chemicals in it. It is clearly marked, and there are warnings to keep away from it. It's been there for years.

2011-05-15 09:33:03 PM
If only there was some group of people out there that would actually pay the state to control deer populations...

2011-05-15 09:33:04 PM
There's a GREAT method of deer birth control: Predators, starvation and hunting.

They should be used often as nature intended.

2011-05-15 09:34:54 PM
Geez, how'd you like to be the poor schmuck that has to put condoms on all those deer? Do you think they hired someone special or just grabbed some guy out of the street department and said "Hey, Bob" (I don't know if his name is Bob, but let's just say it is)... "Hey, Bob, we've got a little job for you when you're done changing the bulbs in the lights on Main Street..."

2011-05-15 09:35:44 PM
If they're gonna shoot the deer with one chemical so they can inject them with another, why not just skip the first, save time and money, and shoot them with the second one?

Or just plain shoot them. I never cease to be amazed that the retarded shiat we waste taxpayer money on.

Oh great. Now all the does are going to sue the state, because they won't be shooting bucks with the dart and giving them a vasectomy right on the spot!

Deer abstinence education is worse idea than birth control; they're just going to fark themselves in the ear instead.

I love some Elk. My wife is a magician with venison and she just cooked a turkey I shot yesterday. Of all the red meats, venison is the leanest. And any wild game will be healthier to eat. Now about this dipshiat Maryland thing. I'd have to say the people who came up with this plan have been spending some time in their local evidence rooms. Only a farkwit would agree to this waste.

If the states want to cut down the deer herds, a good start would be to reduce license fees for out-of-state hunters. That'll bring in more hunters. It would work for me. VA charges out the arse. I've been in the ears of several people at VDGIF and they are actually considering it. It's not enough to extend the seasons in Loudoun, Prince William & Fairfax. Want results? Sweeten the pot a little.

What's next? IUD's for Coyotes?

Weak attempt at trolling, subby.

Republicans are really outraged that the government is spending $1,000 per deer on birth control when deer overpopulation can be more easily controlled by issuing more tags and more relaxed hunting regulations.

A real conservative would see Maryland's efforts as anti-gun, using the following reasoning: Anti-gun groups often try to claim they are not really anti-gun by saying it is OK to have guns for "legitimate sporting purposes." Eliminate those sporting purposes, namely hunting, and you eliminate the loophole approving some guns.
Birth control for deer has been an objective of anti-hunting and animal rights groups for at least two decades, specifically to reduce the winter starvation of deer and thereby eliminate the reason deer hunting has been supported in modern times.

2011-05-15 09:43:37 PM
Extend the season. They're prolific enough. Too many around as it is.

Dudes and dudettes, it's not happening. It's just something they approved for use. The whole article is basically about how dumb it would be to try and actually do it.

First farking sentence: the state's director of wildlife said Friday he can't imagine it ever being used in what he termed the open landscape.

Well sure, because you want to make sure that the educated deer who are actually able to read the sign don't eat this stuff and do procreate.

Maybe the game wardens can tag the deer with "promise rings", thus magically preventing them from having sex despite wearing what is essentially an official guarantee of virginity--especially if the deer is a buck.

Just increase hunting permits. Allow folks to take 2 rather than one, increase your out of state hunting permits...if you bring in out of staters that increases your tourism also instead of spending a $1000 a deer.

Screw that. Why not just re-introduce wolves back into the environment. Natural predators are cheap.

Okay, so someone might lose a pet dog once in a while, but it's their own damn fault for leaving Fluffy out in the back yard.
