How did that work out for Canada with the NHL?

2011-05-14 07:32:49 PM
Please tell me they're opening a store in Tacoma. I'd drive for that shiat. Timmy's is the path to true donut enlightenment.

Dunkin' Donuts is better

2011-05-14 08:01:10 PM
From Wiki:"They are expected to open up to 120 stores in 5 years across the Persian Gulf region including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait."

Turrerist coffee!

""When the lights go on, and people become aware of what Tim Hortons is and what it stands for, you will see positive same-store sales growth for an extended period of time," Schroeder told Reuters in an interview on Friday."

It takes a gift to be able to just talk like that.

ArkAngel: Dunkin' Donuts is better

I came here to post that. Tim Hortons doesn't taste all that good and the doughnuts fall apart in your hands.

There's already one in Afghanistan: Link (new window)

They're already all over my area of Michigan, competing with Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Coldstone Creamery, and some other local chains I can't think of at the moment.

2011-05-14 08:30:30 PM
missed a comma

2011-05-14 08:30:55 PM
Their Iced Cappuccino kicks ass on a nice summer day.

But yeah Tim Hortons isn't that special, let me know when Second Cup wants to get at us.

2011-05-14 08:32:02 PM
Didn't they just try this and end up closing a bunch of stores in rhode island?

TheOther: How did that work out for Canada with the NHL?

Timmies is also opening in the Middle East...this is going to be either a spectacular success or Canada's version of the New Coke.

save russian jews: missed a comma

Or an apostrophe.

I admire them, though, because this type of expansion worked so well for Krispy Kreme a few years ago.

Er wait, that's not politically correct; I mean Biggby.

Horton heard a Who.

Don't even bother trying to come into Houston. Shipley's has the city on lock down-just ask Krispy Kreme.

They've been in SE Michigan for years and years. For some reason women love the place. I think it's the name Tim more than anything else.

Every morning around 5am you can go down to the Detroit River across from Windsor, Ont. CA and watch them toss the daily supplies over to the American side.

On the 4th of July they tie little sparklers on them before they throw them.

this is just a ploy to try to steal the stanley cup

/admittedly canada's best attempt in recent years...

Yeah, that's one. I hate coffee, but my wife insists I buy her coffee at some of these places. Caribou and Seattle's Best are a few of the others.

Are they going to put any in Florida? With all the Canadians on vacation down there it would make sense.

2011-05-14 08:40:54 PM
Open some locations in Arizona and Florida where you have a high snowbird population.

There are a few neighborhoods on the fringes of the Phoenix metropolitan area where half the people are active snowbirds or retirees from Canuckistan. Use them as a springboard.

where can i find a good donut in mn?

2011-05-14 08:45:02 PM
ArkAngel: Dunkin' Donuts is better

I'll second that.. Tim's around here just do not have fresh donuts when I have tried them, nor do they even know what the donuts are called!

2011-05-14 08:45:30 PM
They hooked up with Wendy's some time ago and opened a bunch of Tim/Wendy's outlets in Ohio. Didn't work out so well, as I recall.

/coffee's great tho

I wouldn't consider douchebaggery a gift; more akin to AIDS.

What's even worse is that they kicked Dunkin Donuts out of Penn Station and put Tim Hortons in its place. I tried Tim Hortons once. It made me agree with the statement "America runs on Dunkin."

2011-05-14 08:49:24 PM
How did Horton's become so popular? Their coffee is horrible and pastries aren't any better.

2011-05-14 08:49:47 PM
There's already one in Penn Station, NYC. It's nice because on my way up to Ontario I can enjoy an iced capp to get myself in the Canada mood.

There's a Tim Hortons I went to in Windsor that was across the street from a strip joint. Were you thinking of that one?

I also went to the other TH, about 1km away that was next to my hotel.

2011-05-14 08:52:54 PM
Chains don't ever have the best donuts. Have none of you gone downtown to a real donut shop?

/not a Hipster I swear

2011-05-14 08:53:16 PM
It was funny watching Tim Hortons fold here in New England so quickly after buying out Bess Eaton. You can't compete with DD around here.

2011-05-14 08:54:59 PM
Seems like there's one every 200 yards in Rochester, NY. And if there isn't, there will be soon.

2011-05-14 08:56:20 PM
Hope they don't do like Krispy Kreme did and expand way too fast.

Though they are reopening some of those now, they are doing it at a much slower pace.

2011-05-14 08:58:22 PM
Please Florida Please Florida Please Florida, (clicks article) Aw f*ck you Michigan! If we can get a Tim Horton's and an In N Out in this damn state I might be able to like it here.

2011-05-14 09:00:16 PM
There is a Tim Horton's in Canada for every 1134 Canadians.

2011-05-14 09:02:18 PM
Still can't get a Dunkins in California.

2011-05-14 09:02:35 PM
Tim Hortons coffee tastes like someone let their dog eat the coffee grounds then ran warm water over them. I go back east once a year and invariably need a caffeine fix with nothing around except Tim Hortons. Bleccch

2011-05-14 09:02:59 PM
Tim Horton's would be great here in Florida. Dunkin Donuts has better coffee, but Tims is good, too. Not as good as another Canuck coffee slinger Second Cup, but still good

Whenever I am in Canada its Tim Horton's all the time...can't afford anything else.

Get a kick out of all the TH locations in Canadian cities. I think it is Canadian law that every sizeable Canadian city must have at least 25 Tim Horton's shops within a 1 km radius of downtown

2011-05-14 09:03:41 PM
Van Thulls would kick their a$$ (stupid thief accountant put them out of business)

Nowadays, Manderfields or Hilltop would still kick their a$$

Want me some Van Thulls triple chocolate now :( have to wait for the next charity event. FYI you know a baking family is popular when people drive 2-3 hours just to buy some of their donuts.

Tims success is in the coffee, I hate the pastries, the donuts are shipped to each store frozen then cooked in store.

Thankfully we still have a local mom and pop shop that bakes donuts from scratch, and YOU can tell the difference.

Whomever thought they could compete in Dunkin's own backyahd is foockin stupid and should be at the bottom of dah Challees, guy.

2011-05-14 09:08:22 PM
There's an intersection in Newmarket, Ontario with Tim's on three out of four corners.

/True story.

2011-05-14 09:08:23 PM
Didn't they just close 36 stores in CT and RI?

2011-05-14 09:09:42 PM
I, for one, welcome our new doughnut/coffee overlords.

2011-05-14 09:14:28 PM
Yeah, yeah. You all love Dunkin' Donuts and I love Tim's, but arguing over which of them is a better coffee is rather pointless. They're both garbage compared to "real" coffee.

2011-05-14 09:15:59 PM
I can't wait until they have most of their stores here, so I can piss off Canadians by asking, "Oh, do you have Tim Horton's up there?"

2011-05-14 09:16:51 PM
Aaaah! I can't take it anymore!
Coffee snob threads and Tim Horton's / Dunkin' Donuts / coffee franchise threads have pushed me over the edge.
As of June 1st I will no longer drink coffee.
Or any caffeine-containing beverage, for that matter.
I'm throwing off the shackles of caffeine enslavement.

2011-05-14 09:17:22 PM
SoAxVampyre: Didn't they just try this and end up closing a bunch of stores in rhode island?

Exactly what I was gonna say. They invaded 5 or so years ago, and now they're all just empty buildings. You can't compete with DD in Rhode Island.
