HighOnCraic: Ah, the party of family values and personal responsibility . . .

Ensign and Coburn...both members of the allegedly Christian "The Family"...

Coburn and Coe wanted him to end the affair, not because it was wrong, but because it was an embarrassment and could potentially lead to trouble.

These are the people who cry about the moral decline of this country. Remember folks: morals, like taxes, are for the little people.

I don't see the problem. When I have sex with another man's wife, I always pay off the cuckold and enlist my friends to cover it up. All the while blah-blahing about Jesus.

It's ok if you ask The Jesus for forgiveness, though. They are just worried that there are people out there making bad moral decisions who are not asking The Jesus - or, even worse - asking another deity for forgiveness. That's the big problem in this country.

But make sure you support the murder of homosexuals and pay well under market value for your home.

My sarcasm detector is beeping. But after reading The Family, I have to say you're eeerily spot on.

Jesus plus nothing.

Too bad Inhofe isn't connected to this, then we could kill two birds with one stone and give Oklahoma a badly needed U.S. Senatorial colon cleansing.

It's a good point, but these Family schmucks want it both ways. They don't adhere to traditional Christian norms. They are chosen, and that's all that matters. Whether they adhere to the "old rules" or not doesn't matter.

I read the entire report last night (yes, I'm fun at parties) and Coburn was the fixer until C street Mullah Tim Coe decided he wasn't getting the job done so he had Coburn call Ensign's step dad to release some funds. All of those aholes that lived at that house knew what was going on.

If it's not a big deal, why the pay-off?

"The former aide sought money from Ensign in spring 2009. Coburn negotiated the payment to Doug Hampton down from $8 million to about $2.8 million, according to the report."

How long have people been paying off $2.8 million bribes?

hell by the Standards of the uber-creepy "Family" sect that both Ensign and Coburn belong to, that incredibly farking nice of him. They use King David as an example of their teaching that all people in power are chosen by God (Yes, even Hitler and Pol Pot) and so they can do whatever they want. Which means that by them Ensign would have been justified in getting this guy drafted and sent to Afghanistan as a bomb-disposal tech

Big difference: Democrats, for the most part, run on intelligence, competence and experience. Republicans run on how "good" and "blessed" they are as people.

The real shame is that Ensign is tall and has presidential hair. Despite those highly sought after (R) qualifications, he went and threw his career away.

? I'm saying it's largely irrelevant to the duties and skills required of a President. Republicans/conservatives mistakenly place a lot of value on a character trait that won't help America very much.

For example, Clinton did those naughty things with an intern, but he went after bin Laden and left office with a surplus. George W. Bush was faithful to his wife (we assume) but didn't care about bin Laden, ruined the economy and peed on the ashes just to be a jerk.

Yet they didn't take their marriage vows seriously it would seem. To most people that is a very serious matter. Moral terpitude, does it mean anything any more? Although it shouldn't be a crime to be without morals, it dang should mean something to our politician. That is except to a politician with a (D) behind his name.

Yeah, like Gary Hart soared ahead in the Democratic primaries after his affair was revealed. Oh wait, Democrats stopped supporting him after his affair was revealed.

He started out as the front-runner but after the affair was made public:

A poll of voters in New Hampshire for the New Hampshire primary showed that Hart's support had dropped in half, from 32% to 17%, placing him suddenly ten points behind Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis.
In December 1987, Hart returned to the race, declaring "Let's let the people decide!"[15] He competed in the New Hampshire primary and received 4,888 votes, approximately four percent. After the Super Tuesday contests on March 8, he withdrew from the campaign a second time. (from wiki)

And he was never elected to any government office again.

Wait, what was your point again?

I heard that she didn't want the affair, but was afraid that she and her husband would both be fired, and they and the children would end up homeless.

Ah, the dangers of both parents working for the same scumbag..
