I thought the term 'I've never seen anybody that drunk' and the FAIL tag were mutually exclusive.

I'm guessing the field sobriety test was just a bit of a formality.

A BAC of .30? Pfffft...cops in Milwaukee get a half-dozen people blowing more than that on any average Tuesday.

Indeed.

I was a prosecutor years ago, and we had a guy test .54. How the hell does someone survive that?

whatever...some people just can't hold their liquor.

According to my pocket breathalyzer (not a euphemism from my wang) my girlfriend was at 0.17 last night and was all stumbling and slurring. .30 must be a helluva time.

pgh9fan: I'm guessing the field sobriety test was just a bit of a formality.

Not exactly. There are very common symptoms between drunkenness and diabetic shock. Its very important to document things like this

Someone with a blood-alcohol level of .30 is "in a stupor" and could suddenly pass out, according to Facts on Tap, a national alcohol-education program.

And they would have NO reason to exaggerate or anything. :-|

Haven't there been Fark articles where people hit .45 or something and were still walking and talking?

My mother made it into that range more than once (and in the hospital...). You can develop an exceptional tolerance to the stuff.

long term alcoholism...bac doesn't reflect actual impairment. it's a proxy measure.

statement from TFA: Someone with a blood-alcohol level of .30 is "in a stupor" and could suddenly pass out, according to Facts on Tap, a national alcohol-education program. It's approaching the level of surgical anesthesia; concentrations just a few percentage points higher have killed people. doesn't apply to all people.

/of course this chick was 20, so...

It's commonly quoted that .40 equals dead.... yet many practiced drunks hit that and above quite frequently.

Everybody has something they're good at.....

Back when I was at the University of Georgia, the ever-helpful Athens police ran a free Breathalyzer test in the parking lot of the Varsity restaurant after home football games. I remember a group of Delta Tau Deltas dragging a barely functioning fraternity brother up to the machine and convincing him to blow: .48

Police declared that their highest reading ever.

The guys subsequently keeled over and passed out, right in front of the cop. People were stepping over and around him to get their tests.

(I blew .06 but had stopped drinking in the fourth quarter).

You left the funniest part of that line out!

"It's approaching the level of surgical anesthesia; concentrations just a few percentage points higher have killed people."

Well duh! because we're talking about tenths and hundredths of 'points'- so yes, if your BAC is say 2%, then yea- you're dead drunk.

I love it when journalists say "that's x times the legal limit!" without specifying what it's the legal limit for. Technically, there's no legal limit that determines when you're intoxicated, only one that serves that purpose for operating a vehicle.

Been there once, twice or thrice myself. THe fark mods made me sit in a corner for some time and I didn't know why. I Farkbacked to see why and the mod sent back my quote from a thread that I didn't remember even reading let alone post in. I was like, what is that? I don't even.

Why does the cop in the video look like he has no clue how to put handcuffs on someone?

SandmanMS: Why does the cop in the video look like he has no clue how to put handcuffs on someone?

Perhaps because his perps usually leave on a stretcher?

Watched the video and she wasn't incoherent or stumbling around.
The cops a liar. He's definitely seen drunker people than that.
So she handles her booze well, lots of party girls can do that.

nopokerface: I was a prosecutor years ago, and we had a guy test .54. How the hell does someone survive that?

I know a guy who goes into DTs requiring immediate medical intervention when his BAC gets below .28

2011-05-09 05:49:23 PM
The more you drink the higher BAC level it takes to reach a given level of impairment.

This is why alcoholics can walk and talk and the same BAC that would kill a college freshman.

What this also means is that an alcoholic with a .10 BAC is much more able to drive than that same college freshman with a .08 BAC.

But, it's much easier to stick with fixed values for everyone. So we do. And we say things like, 'At .30 you will die' because someone at .30 could die.

She flashed a cute little smile at the camera, too. I'll match her BAC and we can make little .30BAC babies.

Saw a .69 on a "found down" homeless guy working at (name removed) ER in Chicagoland.

/He was fine when he woke up...Well, at least as fine as the other 5 times he did the same thing.
