Oh, sorry, wait... It's the ADHD kids who just need a spanking.

It's the number of kids who just need to learn not to be anti-social little douchebags that's up.

"Autism spectrum"... the shrinks and pharmaceutical companies aren't going to rest until we're all on their couches and taking drugs for some kind of trumped up, pill requiring disorder or syndrome that, in the past, was just chalked up to being an anti-social prick, or just a plain ol' asshole.

FTFA: The study, being published Monday in the American Journal of Psychiatry, suggests that, under rigorous examination, many more children may be affected than previously suspected.

So if you look harder, you find more of whatever you're looking for.

I hope N.S. Sherlock is listed as a co-author on this study.

Hey, calling it a "mental disorder" doesn't mean it's new. Psychology is CENTURIES behind in their labeling, but the tools they use have been known since Agamemnon sailed on Troy.

Just because some doctor's research recently labeled "assholey" as an autistic spectrum disorder doesn't mean it's not still assholery. It's just got a new name and the old cures should still work.

Clearly, this is because us parents are way too farking stupid and overprotective of our kids, giving them those evil vaccinations.

Aw, shiat, my 5 month old has had her shots. Should I continue and have an autistic child, or should I stop and let nature weed her out?

Decisions, decisions...

Fark, I'm just too dumb to decide! Jenny McCarthy, help me! (new window)

So a study backed and funded by a group that promotes autism issues found that more kids have autism spectrum disorders if you just look hard enough.

Yeah... I'm hoping this is just poor reporting and that study wasn't actually that retarded. Please don't let their criteria really be: "These children tended to have normal intelligence but poor social skills."

Ahh, the big new push. I was too old by the time ADD and ADHD rolled around and hopefully my kids will be too young for Austism wave. I'm almost afraid to imagine what the next big issue will be, but you know parents will cling to that diagnosis. "We were told it was Autism, but we just KNOW it has to be _____."

Genuine cases? Sure. But not many. Don't isolate your kids from the world and most won't develop social issues.

Ah yes Autism, the new A.D.D. Of course when you overdiagnose something it will look bad.

I miss the 80's when social awkwardness or being hyper was considered natural and didn't mean you needed to be spoon-fed pills.

True autism is severely f*cked up-- so is lame, inadequate parenting; often they are not the same, but all these popular diagnosis give irresponsible parents and assholes an easy out.

I'm of the opinion that much of "Autism" is really other things that get labeled as "Autism". Have they figured out a physiological test to determine if you have Autism yet?

To me it seems like you'd get to a point where it wouldn't make a difference fairly quickly.

It's an extraordinarily overdiagnosed, indeterminate 'disorder' for which the defined terms and conditions change more frequently than ... well, you know where I'm going.

It's like the ADD/ADHD thing on steroids. And forget how much money is in just 'diagnosing' and 'treating' it. Think about how much IDEA money is in it.

Not saying it's complete bullshiat, but I am saying you could grow a nice garden out of it.
