I'll bet this was a deal like when Satan bet on Jesus in the South Park boxing match, then took a dive. Maybe Fox invested heavily in Franken's publisher, then sued him to get the book to #1.

In the future, Fox is planning to charge for this as a publicity service, now that other washed-up entertainers are standing in line, asking to be sued.

Next on Fox: we sue Erik Estrada, Cheryl Ladd, and Corbin Bernsen.

Tonight's FOX entertainment line-up:

8:00-8:30 Re-CHIPs
8:30-9:30 Charlie's New Angels
9:30-11:00 Movie of the week: Major League IV

Fox is now going to release a statement claiming that the sudden popularity of the book in conjuction with their recent legal actions merely demonstrates their original claim that the title was chosen to confuse people who would normally purchase books by Fox commentators.

2003-08-13 07:38:27 PM
And now FOX will get a big piece of that revenue from the lawsuit.

I love al franken. Not because i actually think he's funny, but helps bring a balance to the force.

The NeoFascists (im sorry i mean neoconservatives) have Coulter, Savage, Limbaugh, Scarborough, o'reilly etc.

The Left has Michael moore, al franken and. . . and. . err. . . Jeanine Garafolo. Anyone else? Didnt think so.

In the interest of maintaining a relative balance, i think its good there are a few lefties out there making the righties sputter.

"fair and balanced"....

How can a book be number one and not even be released yet?
Al, you are a publicity genius.

What did Jon Stewart say about this?

2003-08-13 07:43:06 PM
BWA-HAHAHAHAHAAA...

I just recently got into watching O'Reilly and damn, he cracks me up. I also listen and watch Franken when he's around and he's no worse than an Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh with his outrageous comments.

How do you ask, can this pot-smoking, hard drinking, porn-loving "liberal" be able to absorb both sides of the issues? How can he actually like to watch Bill and Rush and Al and Larry King and all of the others?

It's all about money, folks. Who's got ratings? Who needs them? What is someone willing to do for them? When those questions get asked, it's fun to see what the answers are.

I like when they agree with me (which they all do at some point) and laugh when they don't. But, by no means do I ever take them seriously. They're just in it for the cash, not to make any sort of difference. It's when they try to supercede that philosophy that they become uninteresting.

Bill always blasts people for not coming on his show, let's see him turn that light on himself and entice Franken on. That would be a laff riot.

Whether you think he's funny or not, Franken has had at least some level of celebrity for 25 years.

WTF? 15 minutes?

He's been in the public eye since SNL started in 1975, almost ithout interruption. That's 28 freakin' years!!!

If you're going to troll, at least say something that won't make us pity you.....

Does anyone remember Franken's TV show, specifically the one where he was talking in the front seat of that car and the airbag busted out and smacked him and they kept showing it over and over?

That was the funniest moment of my young TV life. I also remember some show where they dubbed in some German voice over that footage and made it about the "funny jew" or something... GOLD!

naw, the Left is still the same old and busted Left its been since Carter, prolly even before him, the message of the left hasnt changed, and thats part of the reason they're losing ground. That and the Republicans are a ruthless bunch of junkyard dogs who know how to win elections that hoity toity idealists on the left dont know how to do. Too bad, really.

I wish the dems would adopt a "new" image and platform, it might re-invogorate the party, which is in a pretty sorry assed state at the moment.

So until they do i aint gonna call em "neoleft".

The "new" image of the Right is so scary, i dont really know why people dont get more alarmed by it, its not about traditional republican values anymore: Fiscal responsibilty, small government, reluctance to change....

The deficits we've got now sure show how fiscally responsible the current guys are, the government is much bigger and scary and has more power than it did under clinton, and in 2 years they've totally changed the protocols underwhich the US persues its interests.

Dont sound like conservatism to me. Sounds like. . .nationalism.

That's funny, Al has been around before O'Reilly could ever say "no spin zone" with a straight face. (I'm sure that took some practicing)

I love Mr. Franken. He was a funny comedian on SNL, and he still is funny. I haven't read his book titled "Rush limbaugh is a big fat idiot" but I will soon.

2003-08-13 07:51:26 PM
I've met Al Franken. Very nice and insightful gentleman. He also appears to have genuine concern for the welfare of our country. And he's not a loudmouth afraid of (or unable to face) criticism. He uses humor in an arena that sorely needs it - politics. If other political commentators were half as adept as Mr. Franken, maybe our public discourse would be a little better. It would almost certainly be funnier. And I'll agree with the post on the other thread that "funny" is entirely subjective. Al Franken is either funny to you, or not. I don't care. Just don't show your ignorance of his books and other projects by saying "he's not funny" when what you mean is "he's not funnny to me" (either because you have a prejudice, haven't familiarized yourself with a lengthy body of work, you don't have a funny bone, or AF doesn't tickle it).

Bonestorm

It was called "LateLine". I think it ran as a mid-year replacement in 1998 and 1999, or something like that, but I don't think it was ever an offical part of NBC's(?) lineup.

I actually saw this book for sale yesterday in Mississippi, of all places.

God bless the Ultra-Rightists for giving us some laff material in these dark times.

Yeah, what's with all the right wingers desperately denouncing Franken as unfunny. I disagree with Limbaugh, Buchanon, O'Reily, et al more often than not, but I wouldn't call them unfunny. They are occasionally correct and hilarious when they skewer the left.

2003-08-13 07:54:30 PM
all I have to say is, that if you only fly with your left, or your right wing, you'll end up flying in circles.

use both wings, and keep flying forward.

"It's easier to put on slippers than to carpet the whole world".

"Not a lot of credibility with the Taliban. But do you remember right after September 11th Jesse Jackson said that the Taliban had called him and asked him to go to Afghanistan to broker a peace, and the Taliban were asked about this, and they said they had never heard of Jesse Jackson. And then they asked Jackson again, and Jackson said, No, they have called me. And it was interesting because a vast majority of Americans believed the Taliban. So you know your credibility is in rough shape."

I'm trying to find the video clip of Jon Stewart making fun of Bush a week and a half ago in his news conference... anyone know where that might be? Couldn't find it on the daily show site.
