I have to question your causal relation there. seems to me sexual deviants would fancy porn, not that porn would make you commit divient behavior.

Its been said many times before, i don't think he sees that.

You wanna see the real curse of the internet? Huh,? Do ya, Punk?

Then read this:

CONFIDENTIAL

Dear Sir,

Good day and compliments. This letter will definitely come to you as a huge surprise, but I implore you to take the time to go through it carefully as the decision you make will go off a long way to determine the future and continued existence of the entire members of my family.

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dr. (Mrs.) Mariam Abacha, the wife of the late head of state and commander in chief of the armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria who died on the 8th of June 1998.

My ordeal started immediately after my husbands death on the morning of 8th June 1998, and the subsequent take over of government by the last administration. The present democratic government is determined to portray all the good work of my late husband in a bad light and have gone as far as confiscating all my late husbands assets, properties, freezing our accounts both within and outside Nigeria. As I am writing this letter to you, my son Mohammed Abacha is undergoing questioning with the government. All these measures taken by past/present government is just to gain international recognition.

I and the entire members of my family have been held incommunicado since the death of my husband, hence I seek your indulgence to assist us in securing these funds. We are not allowed to see or discuss with anybody. Few occasions I have tired traveling abroad through alternative means all failed.

It is in view of this I have mandated DR GALADIMA HASSAN, who has been assisting the family to run around on so many issues to act on behalf of the family concerning the substance of this letter. He has the full power of attorney to execute this transaction with you.

My late husband had/has Eighty Million USD ($80,000,000.00) specially preserved and well packed in trunk boxes of which only my husband and I knew about. It is packed in such a way to forestall just anybody having access to it. It is this sum that I seek your assistance to get out of Nigeria as soon as possible before the present civilian government finds out about it and confiscate it just like they have done to all our assets.

I implore you to please give consideration to my predicament and help a widow in need.

May Allah show you mercy as you do so?

Your faithfully,

Dr (Mrs.) Mariam Abacha (M.O.N)

N/B: Please contact Dr Galadima Hassan on this e-mail address for further briefing and modalities

"Slightly more than one-third of the child molesters and rapists in this study claimed to have at least occasionally been incited to commit an offense by exposure to pornography."

And slightly more than 99% of all healthy adults in sexual relationships have claimed to have at least occasionally been incited to commit lovemaking by exposure to pornography. Arousal leads to behavior but it's never been proven that arousal dictates the behavior type.

shiat, you could substitute 'pornography' with 'beer' in that statement and come up with an equally moving argument for prohibition.

practiced at a target range sometime before.

We should bad target practice.

about the only causal relationship you have showed is that people try out crap they see on porno movies. not even that they have more sex because of it.

2003-08-13 02:44:08 PM JamieD77

Photographs, videos, magazines, virtual games, and Internet pornography that depict rape and the dehumanization of females in sexual scenes constitute powerful but deforming tools of sex education. The danger to children stems at least partly from the disturbing changes in attitude that are facilitated by pornography. Replicated studiesx have demonstrated that exposure to significant amounts of increasingly graphic forms of pornography has a dramatic effect on how adult consumers view women, sexual abuse, sexual relationships, and sex in general. These studies are virtually unanimous in their conclusions: When male subjects were exposed to as little as six weeks' worth of standard hard-core pornography, they:

developed an increased sexual callousness toward women

began to trivialize rape as a criminal offense or no longer considered it a crime at all

developed distorted perceptions about sexuality

developed an appetite for more deviant, bizarre, or violent types of pornography (normal sex no longer seemed to do the job)

If i were a crazy sexball freak, i would seek out as much porn as possible. If i were a crazy sexball violent freak with predispositions to rape, i seek out as much porn as possible and probably rape a few girls in the mean time.

Porn doesn't lead to crazy rapists, necessarily.
but i'm sure crazy rapists will find themselves some cray porn.

if your assertion were true, rape levels would have skyrocketed within the last 10 months, due to kazaa. Nope. Mostly arm size skyrocketed.

I hope you helped her! Gee, it sounds like she was in trouble. :( You're so lucky to have been picked for that honor!

Does anyone have the copy of the letter from that sad boy in Scotland(UK) (I think it was)? It was all about how he needed this money, his parents were dead, and he was most definitely from Scotland(UK) and not a scam artist.

Care to tell us where you're copying and pasting from, since you're too damn lazy to post a link? This sounds an awful lot like the Meese Report (widely discredited). Or the typical Falwell brochure. Plenty of impressive-sounding stats with no background or methodological info.

It gets really tiresome when people with children expect a sanitized world to be provided for them, rather than they sanitizing their own little patch of the world and letting the rest of us alone.

I don't want your children. I do want to read or buy what I want, when I want. Your censorship of my choices does not make your little hellspawn grow up any better. It just shows them that you are frightened of words and pictures.

And yes, Windows can be configured so the user cannot even so much as download, if that is how you want it. You wanted a computer, learn to administrate it properly before expecting the universe to be sanitized for you.

Better yet, build a kid friendly internet for kids only, subscribe all the kid households just to that, and the minute someone spams that, rip their balls off in the name of decency. But leave the rest of humanity alone, the world is not your driveway or back yard, and should not be able to be bent to your attempts at censorship.

You -- parents and government that would censor content instead of learning how to filter or block content properly, including not allowing the kids to log on to hotmail if thats what it takes nowadays. Spams bad, but censorships worse.

What???! In the past, parents had to protect their children from farkin' wolves and bears!!! That I think is a bit different than "safegarding them from boobiespam". If you cant afford to boobiespamsafe your kids' computers, then they don't get the farkin' internet.

Again, it isn't the occasional b00b or nude I'm talking about. And I'll assert again the parents of yesteryear were too busy working to stay alive to be an omnipresent overseer in their children's lives.

Lazy 'parents' say: "That movie was scared you? It wasn't ME it is the MOVIE MAKERS fault and the Government needs to make it so MOVIES don't scare you... Now shaddup and get me a beer

Bad analogy. I can read reviews of movies before I allow my kids to watch them. Renting a DVD allows access only to that DVD, not all DVDs. The internet ain't like that.

2003-08-13 01:30:16 PM weemill

No, but there's nothing wrong with parents stopping what they don't want their kids from doing, either. You seem to want to put off parental responsibilities onto the government, and in the end, the consumer of pornography.

Not at all. Right now my kids have no access to the internet unless my wife or I are with them at all times. They like games, email, kiddie sites and whatnot. Frankly, it's like being forced to sit and watch Barney again. Pr0n is intended for adults, not children. What's wrong with providing proof of age online? You do it for a movie theater, to vote, to drive, to get a credit card, to run for office and whole host of other activities. Why not accessing pr0n?

That's not supposed to be the case. Your morality should be enforced by guess who.... yep, you.

Society needs shared morals since all laws are based on a set moral beliefs. In the USA we determine these morals via majority and sometimes super-majority votes.

JamieD77: In a study of six hundred American males and females of junior high school age and above, researcher Dr. Jennings Bryant found that 91 percent of the males and 82 percent of the females admitted having been exposed to X-rated, hard-core pornography. Over 66 percent of the males and 40 percent of the females reported wanting to try out some of the sexual behaviors they had witnessed. And among high schoolers, 31 percent of the males and 18 percent of the females admitted actually doing some of the things they had seen in the pornography within a few days after exposure

Oh my god... so, you mean pornography makes people want to have sex?

This is a whole hell of a lot different than making someone a serial killer who rapes the dead bodies of their prey, or a 45 year old unmarried man who molests his niece.

Yeah, nice numbers you're spewing out. However, those are all correlations.

how many times do i have to say this???
CORRELATION DOES NOT EQUAL CAUSATION. NEVER. NO. NUH-UH. NEIN. NIET. NAY. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BELIEVE, JUST BECAUSE TWO THINGS ARE RELATED DOES NOT MEAN THAT ONE CAUSES THE OTHER.
do you get it now, or do i have to use smaller words next time?

I guess they'll have soldiers from "Homeland Security" standing at every newsstand to guard the magazines from kids reading them, and one in every household to prevent the kids from watching porn videos and the spice channel...
This is just about the stupidest thing I've ever seen the government attempt, aside from putting Dubya in office.

2003-08-13 02:59:46 PM
I guess what I am asking is did Rhett watch a lot of internet porn or get inundated with porn mail and popups in his web-browsing?

Did Scarlett pay the price for him being force fed the perversions of web-life?

These are the hard questions people. Focus.

I'll say this again, it sounds like you'd rather defer your time with your kids 'for safety(I think its laziness)' onto the consumer of the product/service your kid shouldn't even be trying to access.

Simple example is fark. Why should i have to prove i'm 21 or older just to access fark? That's insane. And this is what this law is trying to do. If you don't like porn access, block it from your pc. Spam's already illegal, and that's not being stopped. I shouldn't have to whip my credit card out everytime i want to see something that's either adult or links to adult sites simply because you don't want to take precautions as a parent. Its your computer, its your child, and they're both your choice.
