And a lot of right-wing bloggers were biatching Obama didn't just drop a jdam on his ass from a B-2.

Big Al: Well the news reports did say a lot of information was taken from the compound including important names and phone numbers on OBL himself. So yeah, I'm sure this organization will be farked for quite some time.

Which means it's a great time to GET THE FARK OUT OF IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN and just concentrate on hunting AQ. Stop wasting our tax dollars and more innocent lives, America.

If anything, the fact that OBL was found hiding out in a villa in Pakistan, no doubt with the full knowledge and assistance of the Pakistani government, shows exactly why we have to stay in Afghanistan basically forever.

Pakistan is a failed state in all but name. THEY are the real threat. And they have a couple hundred nukes at their disposal. We need a jumping off point to lay waste to Islamibad if and when the nuclear threat becomes extant. And we just happen to be in one.

Sorry to say: we are never leaving Afghanistan. Not as long as Pakistan has a nuclear arsenal anyway.

Question:

Every time we get one of these guys, the big cheeses now including the head goat Farker bin laden, they're in Pakistan.

I do believe we have known he was there, somewhere all along. President Bush, had he had a location, would have killed bin laden as well. President Obama, with actionable intelligence, pulled the trigger without even telling the Pakistanis. Gutsy as hell.

The question is now what? The country aiding and abetting the terror movement is CLEARLY pakistan. A country with nukes. Now what? I'm curious as to what people think we should do moving forward.

Thank you to President Obama. Thank you too President Bush (still not your biggest fan) and god bless the US Navy Seals.

I'd like to point out that we wouldn't have gotten any of this intel cache if we would have taken a cruise missile to the place as many suggested we do.

Yeah, what was recovered MORE than makes the case that Obama made the right call sending in the ninjas. Also there were children there, none of which are reported to have been killed or wounded, so there's that added benefit as well.

That's retarded. The only reason Pakistan has such a large army and nuclear arsenal are because America has been financing them for decades. Without our billions in aid each year, they would have nothing.

Staying in Afghanistan basically means you keep enriching Pakistan so they can be the terrorist supporters you tell us to be afraid about.

And if you want to disarm Pakistan, you make deals with them and India to mutually disarm. Staying in Afghanistan distorts the process and causes the entire region to be heavily militarized and breeds more radicals.

Unfortunately it's your narrow minded viewpoint that is so prevalent in red state mentality

From what I read the last time anyone saw Bin Laden was at a tribal meeting in Jalalabad on the night of November 19, 2001. He was not in Tora Bora when Delta arrived December 3-4 and when bombing started on the 7th.

Not defending the Bush Administration's sluggishness, just noting that we were never close to getting him.

A country with nukes, an effective military, proxy armies based out of several other countries and a population of 175 million people. The ISI are hard to work with but they know what they're doing. Etc. They're not just some pushover like Iraq.

You know what would be a shiatstorm?

What if Osama pre-recorded a video before his death where he calls out America and says that it's a lie and that he's still alive? I'm sure it wouldn't convince the people in charge, but it would convince enough of the world to have at least a few places in flames.

Or, what if it was more like The Prestige where the guy has had an identical twin brother his entire life but no-one else knows because it's super effective?

2011-05-04 07:44:25 PM
Darth Macho: I'm thinking now might be a good time for Obama to announce to Al Qaeda members, big or small, that they have 72 hours to surrender to their local authorities, since we now have Bin Laden's records and know where they live. Even if we don't know who they are the amnesty program might spook them out into the open.

Even if we don't have any good intel from Osama's computers (which I doubt is the case), it's a great idea. The Al Qaeda people have no idea what we know, so now would be a really good time to bluff.

what was the official bush-cheney reason for the denial (since the original day of 9/11 denial was 'the lawyers') this time?

Maybe a video with Osama holding a document claiming that it was the true Indonesian BC of the President.

It could easily backfire. If you go into Kansas, of all places, you'll find a 'branch' of the Crips. Now these people have every sporting mark of the gang, but it's not like they sent a letter to Tookie and asked for franchise recognition.

I'll wager that a large bunch of Al Qaeda is working independently and without orders, simply following the ideals and applying name recognition. They'll publicly call the bluff without even having to admit why they know we are bluffing, because our only means of reaction would be to tip our hand... which would prove them right.

It's a gamble. I'd stick with 'we will find you' as opposed to 'we know where you are'. That's just me.

By 2004, when Kerry was bringing this up, they were saying Bin Laden probably wasn't in Tora Bora anyways.

And then of course, in 2005, Bush shut down the Bin Laden search team.

That is the bigger win. It's like when Gotti and his lieutenants went to prison. Suddenly, his family went from contract killings to hijacking trucks for VCRs. Within 10 years, they were regulated to being a bunch of low-rent thugs.

The ones that won't go into hiding now that the CIA has their info will probably move on to more lucrative pastures.

Organized crime is like any other job. Folks aren't going to stick around if they're not getting paid.

Point taken, which is why it shouldn't be done either casually or as the default solution. Applied judiciously, though, it can certainly be effective.

Oh I agree, it's effective alright. But look at the shiat storm it's stirred up in Pakistan. Of course that shiat storm was already there I suppose, this just brought it to the foreground. I'm not saying we shouldn't have done this, it was the right thing to do. Just that the political ramifications of this are going to be felt for a long time to come.
