Surool: So?

I don't sew

Shrugging Atlas: Good.

The point of killing bin Laden was to remove him as a threat. That has been accomplished. That threat has been removed. A threat by the way I admit would seem to have been greater than I would have thought, given the fact he clearly wasn't isolated and hiding in a cave somewhere.

Whether people believe he's dead, particularly those barking about it in the US, doesn't change that fact one bit. I'd also argue if you still don't believe it after all the information released and global reaction to it over the past 3 days, you're never going to believe it.

The last images of this guy alive are about 6-8 years old taken from undated, grainy videos. Any photograph of him with his face half blown off, 6-8 years of aging added, and the fact bodies look differnt alive than dead means these photos weren't going to look like him enough to satisfy most people anyway.

It's a good decision, and the right one. Shiat, forget everything I just said. One need but look at the group of people demanding the photos be released to know that.

Yeah, even if he did release the photo, you'd have some asshat on Fox pointing out how it's shopped within the hour. It won't prove everything.

It would be nice to laminate the bottom of my toilet bowl with, hoever.

He obviously didn't learn anything from the birth certificate episode.

He WAITS over two years to release his certificate and then somehow makes it out to be everyone else's problem.

So, I guess three years from now after people rightfully ask to see the picture he will finally put it out there and do the same thing.

And there are delusional people out there that think he has a second term locked up just because of this latest event.

2011-05-04 03:49:14 PM
I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but I'm perfectly OK with this. I agree with his reasoning for not releasing the pictures and I also give him full credit for an amazingly gutsy call on the raid.

/credit where credit is due

2011-05-04 03:49:23 PM
We have fewer pixels to tell by, then.

2011-05-04 03:49:57 PM
I would look, but I don't feel the need to see it. I actually trust the gubbermint's call on this one.

The fact that he hasn't popped up like the old man who doesn't want to go on the cart in holy grail convinces me that he's dead.

2011-05-04 03:50:01 PM
Tealeaf: Crap. On one hand, I really wanted to see the pictures. On the other hand, I can understand and respect Obama's reasons for not releasing them. Crap.

Don't worry. Of course the administration is going to look respectable by not officially releasing them. Now if they are leaked... well, then no one's to blame.

2011-05-04 03:50:21 PM
If people refuses to believe that Obama was born in this country, even with the birth certificate, what are the chances of convincing them that Bin Laden is dead by releasing a photograph?

2011-05-04 03:50:29 PM
Makes sense. Only retards will think it is a hoax. It will needlessly piss off more crazy Muslims. It will make Obama look better.

2011-05-04 03:50:41 PM
I have no interest in seeing them. I once looked up a beheading video (you know, back when it was cool) and can't unsee that.
I still think we should put them on a website and charge people to see them.

All the money would go to 9/11 families and first responders.

2011-05-04 03:50:50 PM
Good. We can appreciate all of this for the closure it brings without making ghouls of ourselves.

2011-05-04 03:50:54 PM
Well all right. I admit it though--I wanted to see them.

2011-05-04 03:50:56 PM
Wikileaks will release them, then Obama will condemn wikileaks. Jesus, don't you guys know how power politics works?

2011-05-04 03:50:59 PM
Did anyone see the NatGeo special about the truthers? No matter how many engineers, scientists, etc. Said that everything that happened made sense in a physics and engineering way, the trutherswouldn't listen. This is the same. We could have video of 8 independant labs confirming his DNA, him being shot, then the body dump, and there will still be idiots who deny it. There is no WIN here.

2011-05-04 03:51:16 PM
The Iraqi government released photos of a dead Saddam because people believe it when they see it, if you are computer savvy you might understand that a picture can be photoshopped and the release of a picture might do nothing for you but there are millions of people on the planet who are interested in this and are not so computer savvy as to be cynical of every picture, they would probably feel more convinced at seeing pictures. I think it is a mistake to not release them.

2011-05-04 03:51:38 PM
RminusQ: JerseyTim: FOIA that sucker.

Yes, because you can FOIA classified data. Why don't we FOIA the names of the guy who boomheadshoted Osama so we can give him a parade? Or we could FOIA the papers recovered at the compound, so we could all help interpret them.

These guys seem to think it's possible.

2011-05-04 03:51:41 PM
Trackball: He WAITS over two years to release his certificate and then somehow makes it out to be everyone else's problem.

the timing of release was just a big ol' FU to the birthers; while they still had their panties in a bunch he kills OBL to show he has far more pressing matters on which to focus

2011-05-04 03:51:47 PM
ultraholland: really though. For the last decade we've been inundated with these images. Since OBL is supposedly the very reason we've done everything we have up to this point, let's give the people what they want; satellite feeds, helmet cams, recordings from helicopters, everything. Don't like it, don't look, but I'd like to see a comprehensive view of this operation.

Tough shiat?

2011-05-04 03:51:47 PM
I submitted this with a similar headline.

2011-05-04 03:52:19 PM
Hm. 2 weeks 'til they're leaked, then.

2011-05-04 03:52:21 PM
Meh, I just wanted to see them out of morbid curiosity.

Peaceboy: But we do need the pic of the look on his face from the helmetcam of the first Team 6er to burst into his bedroom.

This would be very satisfying though.

2011-05-04 03:52:37 PM

AWESOME idea.

2011-05-04 03:52:53 PM
Hermione_Granger: If this is anything like the birth certificate we'll see the pics in three years after Donald Trump throws a hissy fit.

release the real pics when hair boy releases the real tax returns?

Mr. Coffee Nerves: Said Obama: "The risks of release outweigh the benefits. Conspiracy theorists around the world will just claim the photos are doctored anyway, and there is a real risk that releasing the photos will only serve to inflame public opinion in the Middle East."

He added: "Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaida killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet. Osama bin Laden is not a trophy -- he is dead and let's now focus on continuing the fight until Al Qaida has been eliminated."

Sounds good.

I don't have to imagine it. I can go on the internet now and look at photos of our troops bodies being desecrated or Americans getting their heads cut off if I wanted to.

/I think bin laden is the trophy. The real rewards are all the intelligence we are undoubtedly getting from his hard drives and papers.

2011-05-04 03:53:27 PM
COVER UP!, COVER UP!, COVER UP!,

I actually don't believe that, but after all the conspiracy theories about Bush, I just think that Obama deserves a few more himself.

Yeah, I'm fine with this. I think we'll see the pictures at some point, under a different president or even ten years down the line when this isn't such a hot button. If we didn't have internet I bet they'd have been on the front page Monday morning, but I see no problem with not releasing them as it is.

2011-05-04 03:53:41 PM
It's the right decision and it's good politics. The GOP will have to stand behind home on this. In fact, they already are: Link (new window)

2011-05-04 03:53:49 PM
I remember when I believed bigfoot had just been captured even though they had no evidence what-
so-ever.

Normal human behavior.

2011-05-04 03:53:58 PM
I would think that JFK would like a word with Obama.

2011-05-04 03:53:58 PM
ha-ha-guy: I feel dirty for saying this, but: Ahem wikileaks, get on this.

I'm writing to Congress over this. My tax dollars helped pay to make this happen. I deserve a chance to set OBL with the back of his skull blown off.

Hell don't release them, but sell high quality prints, we can use the profits to pay off the debt.

I have a better idea. How about the next guy we go after, we capture him and sit him down in front of a video camera? Then we tell the world that this is what happens when you mess with us, right before holding him down and sawing off his head with an old knife?

Sound good to you?

2011-05-04 03:54:00 PM
thisone: when hair boy releases the real tax returns?

Isn't that required to run for President as part of the financial disclosure? Not that he's seriously going to run for President anyway just seems to me there's no way of NOT releasing that.

2011-05-04 03:54:04 PM
It'll get released right around election time.

2011-05-04 03:54:16 PM
They wanted to release the Osama pictures, unfortunately clutched in Osama's rigamortis grasp was an authentic Kenyan Barrack Obama birth certificate that appeared in detail in every picture. They thought about shopping it out but he knew Farkers are excellent at detecting shops by looking at the pixels, so it was better just to with hold them all together.

2011-05-04 03:54:31 PM
Heh - Obama goes from trolling the birthers to trolling the deathers. No wonder he released the BC last week - he knows exactly what he's doing.

2011-05-04 03:54:44 PM
Good. I wasn't looking forward to seeing those pictures, and I think they'd do more harm than good.

We killed the bastard, no need to parade his corpse around, and in doing so devalue ourselves.

Maybe I've been playing too much Mass Effect lately, but I think we should be treating the situation like Shepard. Go there, kick ass, head to the next battlezone, kick ass, go to sleep, wake up in the morning and have sex with an asari.

2011-05-04 03:55:00 PM
sweetmelissa31: If they did release it, people would be asking for the long-form photo instead.

That is so true. Glad the experiment worked!

2011-05-04 03:55:15 PM
Jake Havechek: Wikileaks will release them, then Obama will condemn wikileaks. Jesus, don't you guys know how power politics works?

Is it like power training?.

ckevinc: It'll get released right around election time.

... to remind his opponent of the consequences of crossing Obama? :o

2011-05-04 03:55:31 PM
1. Those pics just became the most valuable in the world.

2. It's the US government, they will be leaked at some point.

2011-05-04 03:55:33 PM
Good for him. It's the right call. Now Julian Assange will look like an asshat. Again.

2011-05-04 03:55:35 PM
Jake Havechek: I don't care, but Glenn Beck and the freepers are going to make birtherism seem like nothing by comparison.

if Al Qaida is acknowledging his death, that should seem to be proof enough. There is no video decrying "The great lies of satan". His own followers believe he is dead. I think THAT could be used to discredit any conspiracy nut jobs that start sprouting up here.

2011-05-04 03:55:42 PM
A) It's the classy thing to do

B) Here come the conspiracy nutjobs.... "Obama is really keeping Osama in the basement in a gimp suit...."

C) The whargarbl continues. Trump in 3....2....1....

I actually just killed bigfoot last night. but I dump his body in the ocean and you can't see the pictures.

2011-05-04 03:56:05 PM
Don't show the pics. Leave the bin Laden followers milling about in confusion, waiting for the next video from their leader, which will never come.

If the US shows photos, it'll just be stirring up the beehive.

2011-05-04 03:56:24 PM
Panty Sniffer: Anyone else think that it will be "leaked" and Obama claim that he was just respecting the dead while his minions are putting it on the internet?

THIS!

I thought that when they were talking about having the pics: Oh, those will get 'unofficially' leaked, just to show the splinter cells..."How does that martyr thing look now? Those virgins gonna let you tap that lookin like this?"

Think Wikileaks will find and post them?

2011-05-04 03:56:37 PM
LOL@ all you retards actually believing he's not releasing it because "it might inflame hatred in the middle east". Like invading Pakistan's sovereignty, murdering their hero, and improperly disposing of his body wouldn't piss them off enough.

I believe he's dead, but not releasing any evidence at all gives me pause, and if it gives me pause (someone who believes he's dead even after all this bullshiatery) then you KNOW that terrorists won't believe he's dead for a farking second, and that the US is just trying to flush him out of hiding.

Bad move by Obama, he has nothing to lose from releasing the pictures, and a shiat load to lose by not releasing them. Here's hoping they get "leaked".

The Guardian had an interesting report on it:

" This is important generally - but particularly vital for Muslims around the world."
