He's working with the Giants? That's nice of him.

2011-05-03 01:18:55 PM
Wait.... why is he practicing with the Vikings again?

2011-05-03 01:19:08 PM
I thought Green Bay made a good trade going for Brees, he'll make a good backup for Rodgers.

2011-05-03 01:19:10 PM
All these Saints greenlights, I'm digging it.

/loved Simmons' Twitter feed during the draft continually saying things like "My dad wants to get drunk and pretend we had New Orleans' draft"

If that's the case, he'll have to compete with Colt McCoy, who already did this.

2011-05-03 01:34:18 PM
Saints fans living in fantasy land again, they snuck up on people once, now its back to the old saints by losing to sub .500 teams in the playoffs.

Levarien: If that's the case, he'll have to compete with Colt McCoy, who already did this.

As is pretty much every starting QB in the NFL, and for teams that don't have established starters one of the wide recievers is probably putting an informal camp together.

Is Drew Brees going to be backing up Matthew Stafford this year?

Yeah, that was my second thought. Every single QB and star Defensive guy has already got their guys together for workouts so its not a big deal.

So Drew's been traded to the Steelers?

/Might as well get all 31 other teams in..

Funny, Theismann did the same thing back in the day. Did it pay off for the 'Skins? I forget.

Hey, has anyone mentioned that the Saints aren't the only team working out?

2011-05-03 01:44:52 PM
That's nice of him to help the Bills out so much.

What? It could happen.

/It won't happen.

I don't know, has anyone mentioned every other team yet?

Can he get into trouble for this? In any case, it could lead to the first round of Drew becoming the Singing Shark - "I'm Breesus, I'm Breesus, suck my diiiiiiiiiick...I'm Breesus!"

How about linking to an actual article instead of some shiatty local radio station mainpage?

2011-05-03 01:56:12 PM
Who submitted the link to WWL's main page rather than a relevant article? Sloppy.

As mentioned already, Drew is just doing what any good leader should be doing. The 'news' would be if any team's players were just sitting around not working out.

You know, I picked that upset.....

/callback to the guy that got mad at me for beating my chest about that upset, which i was on record in the NFL Playoff threads about predicting. i wrote this long ass "Wall Of Text" (as he called it) about how the Saints went like, 1-3 against the NFC West and flat out sucked at taht, losing I think at Arizona (west coast time sked) and needing a last second FG to beat SF (also at SF, west coast time sked).

unlike many pundits who after the fact said "yeah, i'm not shocked, i had a weird kinda feeling this might happen" (yeah right) i was able to link my prediction, made the thursday/friday before the game, whcih i did in every thread, hence, the "wall of text". good times.

//althoguh in point of fact, my argument was more about the Seabirds covering the spread, something like 11.5 or 8.5, just enormous for playoff football, but I also said in my argument something like "hell, given how bad the Saints have been in the NFC West, I wouldn't be surprised if the Seahawks don't just cover, but beat them outright." so i could plausibly assert I called it.

///wall of text: bow down before it

also, rather odd how the Saint fanbase went from relative obscurity to being something of a national draw.

I know, newsflash for me, NFL fans tend to be the "bandwagonniest" of any sport's bandwagon fans, but the saints fans are still living off the SB title, 2 years later.

like, the people that becamse Colts fans after their win, within a year, they were back to wearing Vikes or whatever gear. The Colts' shelf life was really short. But the Saints still have this bizarrely devoted fanbase. strange.

Two years isn't exactly a long time, and Saints fans are "bizarrely devoted" because they're NOT bandwagon fans. It only makes sense, dude, lol.

no, every team has its hardcore farking fanbase. but nowadays you see tons of fleur de lis when, 2-3 years ago, you dind't see any.

I was actually going to mention my Bears fans friends still talking about 1985, including one who was in fact ONE in 1985, but I didn't want to offend anybody.

It's also possible we didn't get many, if any, bandwagon followers...like you said with the Colts or with anyone else, up here in the Northeast I certainly see bandwagons spreading. I've seen six people in Rodgers jerseys thus far this "offseason," for example. I just didn't ever see that in 2010 post-Super Bowl win for us.

2011-05-03 02:16:59 PM
I mean, besides me, up here the only other Saints fan I know of is an obnoxious French waitress. She's the only other person but me I've ever seen up here in Saints gear. Anecdotal, obviously, but.

2011-05-03 02:18:59 PM
You know this is a great idea! I think every team should organize their own off season workouts to be in shape in case there is a season in 2011.

Although I do not recall Brees getting traded to the Colts....

i give "that" fanbase credit for sticking with them, though. again, my initial point -- which i didn't make clear, sorry -- was that the "bandwaggoiniest" Saints fans are still on the bandwagon, which strieks me as odd. i'm not cirticizing the Saints faithful at all. or the bears faithful.

i just don't understand the mentality of the fan that shifts allegiances based on whomever wins. remember about 10 years ago when every other son of a whore was wearing a Donko hat? or how "patriot nation" became the new hotness circa 2005? i mean, everyone had Pats gear. now? it seems like the Saints are the "lasting" fair weather fan team.

stated alternately: how many people are fervently rocking the silver star? only the faithful. If the Cowboys make an NFC champtionship appearance, you just know the whole damn nation is going to explode back into "America's Team" and all the limpdicks currently rocking Saints gear and going to bust out their stupid Aikman, Playmaker, Emmitt jerseys.

I don't know, I just don't see that around here. Alternately, I see PLENTY of people still with Cowboys crap all over their cars.

perhaps it is me living in phoenix, with a hugely transient population. few are willing to buy into Arizona (why should they?) but....locally, people jsut rotate that shiat. seriously. you'll see people with old farking faded "denver broncos 1998 superbowl" license plate holders and then a farking Giant helmet sticker on the car. make up your mind, christ.

and when the Cowboys get good again, holy lord, phoenix will once again explode as a cowboy town.

a coworker goes to most cards games in her cards jersey, except for when they play the 49ers, because she is a Niners fan. huh? 14 weeks of the season you are part of Redbird Nation, but 2 you root for the Niners?

That's the kind of mentality phoenix has. no wonder we're a poorly rated sports town.

Uh. how is this "lockout schmockout"? They went and trained at Tulane. Their occupation is professional football player; anyone who cares about their profession but was not permitted by their employer to practice it would engage in getting better at it, too.

Yeah, maybe that's it. Up here, people are locked into their fanbases, and Phoenix doesn't really have all those particular devotions, you know? As for the coworker, I just don't understand that, haha, not at all.

Just ignore rob when it comes to the saints, he knows nothing, he also thinks the taints have a long and relevant playoff past while ignoring they didn't have a winning season for 23 years.

The bears have a long history with fielding great teams, the taints luck up and get one decent team in 50 years and suddenly they are part of the elite. Taint fans were more fun when they weren't so arrogant about their team, im going to laugh when reggie bush signs for cheap with the falcons after the saints try and low ball him.

And he wont admit it but you are right, most of the saints fans are bandwagon fans, nobody had their gear a few years ago but now its everywhere.

Or you can do what most on the tab do and just mentally check out whenever you see steamingpile above the comment. Or, really, take his login as a warning. A dire, dire warning. For instance, "he thinks the Saints have a long and relevant playoff past?" A, I have no idea where "long" comes from, B, "relevant" I assume comes from rubbing his nose in the Super Bowl win, and C, he uses the ignore list like a biatch and then tries to take potshots when he sees me quoted by anyone else. Take him at your own discretion.

I think I'm the only Niners fan that likes Alex Smith.

He's not great, but he's serviceable when he has time to step into a throw. Which is like three times a season.

The Saints, who needed a gimic to get control of the Super Bowl, then lost to a 7-9 team in round one the following year?

I wouldn't put my money on it.

It's illegal for the teams to organize it, not for a bunch of players to get together and practice on their own. Just can't have coaches participating.
