After reading this thread it has become clear to me that one or both of the following are true.

A) All farkers are idiots

B) It is impossible to have an intelligent debate on a message board

Is the answer
A and not B
B and not A
both

Ann Coulter? I'd hit it.

I'd drive some nails through a two-by-four and use that.

More on topic, this guy's a dingleberry making straw-man arguments to help himself feel superior. The ideology he's describing belongs to some pimple faced, wake-and-bake, phish-head, hackeysack playing college kid. If those are the 'liberals' that republicans feel they need to be prepared to confront, then I can't wait for the upcoming elections.

Liberals liked the movie Gigli.

Now THAT'S mudslinging!

Instead of spewing insults, can you back up your statements? Make sure to wipe the spittle off your cheeks first.

2003-08-12 10:21:22 AM
I think we should give free money to minorities and needles to heroin addicts. I also think that unwed mothers should be paid a premium for every extra kid they have after their second. I also believe that my friends in corporations should be able to use every available loophole to increase their products, even at the expense of American jobs.

What does that make me?

It never ceases to amaze me how conservatives talk about how great the U.S. is, yet they want to slowly tear down everything the country was founded on and stands for.

Conservative:
It never ceases to amaze me how liberals talk about how great the U.S. is, yet they want to slowly tear down everything the country was founded on and stands for.

Easy enough. If you believe either of those statements is true, you should probably listen to people a little better ;-) Moderation is the key.

It is conservatives who want the country out of our business, save for some right wing idiots.

Live with who you want.
Have abortions if you want to, but dont charge me your medical bills.
Do drugs if you want to, but dont charge me your medical bills or endanger me with your presence while you're on them.
Have tons of kids, but dont charge me for their welfare.
Own lots of guns, but dont fire them at me.

the government should exist solely to protect property rights. courts, police, lawmakers, and military.

I feel sorry for people who finger-point and pigeonhole, people who know nothing other than "liberal" and "conservative".

The human brain is much more complex than that.
Form your own damn opinions, people.

Grandstander, you hypocrite.

Liberals support welfare, medicare, and lockboxes full of my cash for people who didnt work for it. Those are facts to back it up.

If you people are so worried about tax cuts.. Quit Shopping on ebay and not paying taxes on anything that you buy.. Quit burning Mp3's on to cd's and go to the store and buy one and pay taxes.. No wonder so many states have deficits..

um right...hate to tell you this but not all states have that sales tax thing. I can buy as much as I want and it's not going to help the state government with sales tax. It will however boost businesses profit and possibly enable them to hire more help...helping the economy....whether I buy on ebay or in stores

People like you are what make me enjoy debating on Fark so much. Care to actually back up your wild claims? How many liberals will you find that actually will be giving needles to heroin addicts? (Unless you count giving them clean needles just for the sake of halting the spread of AIDS...it's morally questionable, but necessary for public health) It must be nice to have a view of the world where everyone who disagrees with you is some kind of idiot. Hey, I watch Bill O'Reilly...and guess what, sometimes, I really like what he has to say.

2003-08-12 10:24:21 AM
MOST people are simulatenously inherently good and inherently weak.
here's the difference i see between most liberals and most conservatives:
liberals - "Hi, Mr. or Ms. Indigent, I know you're addicted to drugs and I know you probably didn't have a good childhood, so I'm going to take from these people who worked hard or just had parents who worked hard and give it to you. Reality is harsh, life is tough, so just keep turning that bottle up, keep pushing out those crack-addicted welfare babies, and keep watching soap operas. We wouldn't want you to have to grow up and deal with shiat, like the rest of us."
conservatives - "Hi, Mr. or Ms. Indigent, you have had a tough road, maybe even a little harder than the rest of us. So we're going to help you out. Put down that joint or needle, put down that Jim Beam. If you show some initiative and meet me halfway, I'll help you get back on your feet. If you keep drinking, smoking, procreating, and NOT working, you can starve. Life is hard for everyone, deal with it."
THATS the difference, between MOST of us and MOST of you. A liberal isnt a bad person because they want to help people, they just dont understand that people have to help themselves.
The author mentioned the Ten Commandments b/c it proves a point. You can't at those commandments and say that they dont make sense, and that the world wouldn't be a better place if everyone followed them.

Although I don't agree with is arguement, I am tempted to agree with him somewhat. I consider myself to lean more to the Liberal side of things, and many liberals are very Naive and Narcicistic. Think of all the "hippie" extremists who think a little love with solve all the worlds problems, or YES, the super PC people who are currently dumbing down schools and the language in order to prevent hurting people's feelings.

Yet, on the other hand, I also think that many right wingers are Holier than though arseholes who love to attack first and ask question laters.

So I guess it comes down to which you think is the lesser of two evils: Niavete or Ignorance. Two sides of the same coin I think. That is why so many politicians (no matter what side) are self serving, out-of-touch fark ups.

HaloLauren
What makes me a hypocrite? Since you know nothing about me (ha, my girlfriend's name is lauren, but I somehow doubt that she morphed into a rabid conservative overnight, but whatever)...I can assume you have nothing but your own fanatical mind to base that claim on.
Furthormore, what's wrong with Welfare and medicare? Hmm? And explain 'logically' like Conservatives claim they can, without rhetoric and blind liberal-hating sputum.

2003-08-12 10:27:26 AM
Liberals believe that people are basically incompetent and evil, which is why the government should take their money and use it to control them.

Conservatives realize that most people are good and hard-working if you give them the chance to keep the money they make and throw the rest in jail without remorse.

2003-08-12 10:27:43 AM
Cheeses of Nazareth (good name btw!),

Aw man, it isn't like that. Both sides care about their fellow man for the most part, it's just taking a different approach as to how to do it. For instance, is it better to give a man welfare or to give him a job? Liberals would lean towards welfare and conservatives would lean towards teh job. Both end with the same thing, a happy citizen. The friction comes when you argue about which way is best.

I am a business owner who neither smokes cigars nor is a redneck (although I am from South Carolina and I do watch Nascar occasionally). I pay my employees extremely well, give them a vehicle allowance, pay for gym memberships if they want them, benefits (as much as I can hang with as insurance is crazy thanks to those damn lawyers and lack of tort reform), and all of this for telecommuters...my employees spend their money and enrich the economy of the entire community in which they live.

In this case, you have a republican view of how to help your fellow man in which there is little government involvement. Is this so bad? Is there another way to do this? Yes, you could tax the hell out of upper income types to help out the jobless...but that isn't nearly as realistic as a good job with a good company.

/common sense

2003-08-12 10:28:41 AM
You're a hypocrite because you accused me of insulting people and then insulted me.

what's wrong with medicare and other such handouts is that no one's existence is a claim on someone else's hard work.

"Liberals support welfare"

Yep, we believe that pepole that are truly down and out should not have to starve to death or have their families broken apart. We liked the system so much, we reformed it in 1996, so it is no longer abused and those taking advantage of it do have to contribute and get back on their feet.

"medicare"

Yep, the greatest generation should be cared for. Lots of guilt there.

"lockboxes full of my cash for people who didnt work for it."

Gosh, fiscal discipline and support for the social security system. Go tell someone who is 65 that they are lazy and don't deserve to retire.

2003-08-12 10:30:31 AM
I always thought it went -

"Liberals think the market has some flaws in it.

Conservatives fark chickens."

I'm preeetttty sure that's a scientific fact.

2003-08-12 10:30:38 AM
How about contrasting these "liberal positions" with those of conservatives to give us some perspective. It's easy to point the finger, but to demonstrate how your position is better instead of concentrating on why the other one is worse is the key to winning a debate.

Yes, there are certainly some liberals who probably think the way this guy says they do. Bleeding hearts, do-gooders with no common sense who want every human being to bloom like a happy flower. But I don't know too many people who are so disillusioned. Personal responsibility has vanished, not (as the author implies) because of liberal policies, but because of litigation. I don't believe that liberals are fundamentally opposed to war (FDR and Truman kicked some major arse). Take this guy's example: Saddam Hussein. It was not only liberals opposed to this war--it was a mixed bag in both camps. Now that the war is over and the reasons we had turn out not to be reasons, and the cost of repairing the damage is several times more than we expected, liberals and conservatives alike are pretty pissed off (and should be).

It's always fun when uber-conservatives take up arms against the liberal hordes in this way, "naively" believing that the liberals cannot possibly be as smart or as wise or as insightful as they are. Believing that you are not like everyone else, and that you are superior, is a critical flaw that always leads to ruination in the end. Conservatives are guilty of this with the prevailing attitude that thinking other than they do is insane and un-patriotic. Making your opposition feel guilty about their position is an ineffective debate tool, too.

And I do like to believe that nobody thinks they are evil. I don't know about guys like Saddam, but I don't think he woke up each morning, rubbed his hands together and cackled about the torture he was going to inflict. Who knows? I prepare for the worst, but people often surprise me and I am always relieved to see that most people do want to be good, and few strive to be evil for evil's sake.

Just my thoughts on the matter...

The founding fathers never sat down and said, "Let's create this huge overreaching monster of a government bureaucracy, because that's what will help our new country grow from zero to #1 on the planet in a short 225 years."

That is why liberals are sucky stupidheads. MUD!

2003-08-12 10:31:46 AM
HaloLauren, you are such a total freak. Surely you are just a troll - no one could really be as stupid as your claims make you seem.

Funny!

I'm an ultra liberal...far enough to the left that I agree with about 45% of the Green Party's platform...but I STILL think those people are idiots. Naive idiots. So, on the leftwing you have smug, naive morons who think free love is the solution to the worlds problems, and rightwing idiots who are smug, self-assured asshats who dream of jackboots.

So...your solution to dealing with idiots is to make up a government-- of idiots-- to solve the problem?

"Fiscal discipline" is saving up your own money for retirement, not asking for mine.

2003-08-12 10:31:57 AM
HaloLauren
I never said I wasn't a hypocrite...I just wondered why you said it :) Anyway, that's a very nice viewpoint you have there. However, not everyone can afford the high costs of health care...should we just let them die? So, if your family were to fall on hard times, and have trouble finding work, and were to have, say, a sick child or something, and need medicare, but it wasn't available...what would you say then? "God bless America for getting rid of medicare! I can self-suficiently watch my child die!"
Right.

2003-08-12 10:32:46 AM
Yep, the greatest generation should be cared for. Lots of guilt there.

I hope the guilt is about taking 15% of all the money they ever earned and swirling it down some government rathole.

2003-08-12 10:32:48 AM
This seems like a good a place as any to bring this up. Liberals need a cause, with a cause they are lost in the woods. Today they are lost in the woods. Slick evil politicians such as Sheila Jackson Lee will go so far as to fabricate a cause but not for the reasons suspected.

Take her obviously ridiculous assertion that hurricanes need some african names. Do you really think SHEILA JACKSON LEE (great african name)gives a rats ass about a hurricane name? The answer is no. One of her young bright aids came up with the idea as a way of baiting and entrapping people into making racist statements. And it worked if the Fark comments are any indication. Her minions go online I am sure. And they probably feed some of your comments to her constituency to keep them mad and voting.

Sheila Jackson Lee is the worlds worst troll. Do not feed the biatch and her agenda. That being to find ways to prove racism exists today by doing stuff sure to anger people who are sick of this stuff. That is all.

Objectivism, btw, the philosophy of Ayn Rand. I hope you learned something about it in 4 years of studying philosophy.

We're not all crazy communist bleeding-hearts. Hell, I love being able to have a gun, and life would be much better with a smaller government. Maybe it's time the rest of us spoke up instead of leaving it to the extremists.

2003-08-12 10:33:35 AM
finally, someone speaks the truth about the enigmatic liberal.

2003-08-12 10:33:42 AM
At the heart of liberalism is the naive belief that people are basically good. As a result of this belief, liberals rarely blame people for the evil they do. Instead, they blame economics, parents, capitalism, racism, and anything else that can let the individual off the hook.

this guy is a little slow in the comprehension department (though, basically, I believe he's good, but a good narcissist is still evil, or am I being naive?)

liberals actually believe in the predominant trend for EVIL to propagate when people 'get together' (i.e., economics, parents, capitalism, racism) - but understand you cannot always pin a corporate entity's big pot of evil on an individual (is that really so hard to understand?)

and that's why liberals don't like right wing folk. it's all about hating people who are narcissistic and greedy actually, which places this article firmly in the 'ironic' camp.

2003-08-12 10:34:26 AM
HaloLauren
Yes - I saw your post. It explains a lot. Ayn Rand is not a philosopher. She's a novelist. I am willing to bet you are under 20.

2003-08-12 10:34:36 AM
You know it's gonna be a biased opinion when the author says "liberal" fifty times in the first paragraph.

This is as bad as that asshat and his "defeat" the "right" with "slogans"

The Green party? I'd never vote for them on a cold day in hell. I agree with 45% of what they say...but the rest for it is so dismally idiotic and naive that I could never vote for them and not feel like I'd just killed several hundred brain cells.

2003-08-12 10:34:52 AM
it has been a long time since i've read an article that was such a thorough example of unadulterated horse s***. the logical reasoning is pathetic, and just amounted to being an amazing piece of hypocritical tripe.

like many others, i'm desperately trying to refrain from emailing him some very lengthy counter-arguments.

bfish: question--you mentioned governmental spending as either a handout or a hand-up. what about those who feel that the government ought to provide more for the public good? more robust governmental spending--not only in terms of defence but arts, education and the environment?

See, this is what makes us liberals (ooh, dirty word) think conservatives have a profound indifference to the human condition. Ayn Rand can suck my nonexistent dick. When you are that selfish, you're best left on your own.

2003-08-12 10:35:58 AM
We have a healthcare problem, but taxing people more to give the best healthcare to the most undeserving people is not the answer.

One partial solution is to somewhat deregulate the health care industry. Current doctors work to make it hard for doctors out of school to practice in their respective states by lobbying for higher standards, more tests, and more fees. It lowers their competition and leaves them to ask whatever money they want for their services. I say a doctoral degree and the training that goes with it, along with 1 state test is plenty.

Actually, let me pull my punches a bit, because I am just being a big flamer, here. I apologize for saying you are stupid, and attacks of your age are unfair and pointless.
