They're just takin' care of their own.

Like the Navy Seals and the Catholic Church.

(Plus, Costnerd can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch).

Kevin Costner = Eric Roberts with a better P.R. dept.

2003-08-11 09:12:33 AM
Meh. I didn't like Dances with Wolves that much. Costner has as much on screen charisma as a prune.

2003-08-11 09:39:49 AM
"[Costner] is so suave, so smooth that no one can deny him."

...I get this all the time.

2003-08-11 09:42:18 AM
Atleast Sharon Stone does nude scenes in about all of her movies... the rest of the people they mention don't have a redeemable quality.

2003-08-11 09:54:20 AM
hey i like the Postmand and Waterworld.....

2003-08-11 11:02:37 AM
I think the last good thing Costner was in was JFK. He should just do his talk show and then go away.

2003-08-11 12:08:04 PM
"Thirteen Days" was pretty good in spite of him...

2003-08-11 12:13:43 PM
This is a classic line:

"I feel like a bobble head doll constantly shaking my head in disbelief because he (Costner) hasnt done anything good in 10 years," he said. "Until he dies, he will bounce back.

2003-08-11 12:44:55 PM
no, The Postman. I am the only person in this country who liked it, but I did. I could watch it over and over. It's better than Cats..........

2003-08-11 12:50:38 PM
I feel that way about Dances With Wolves. I wished I seen it on 'the big screen' - westerns are always better on the big screen.

I'd have to say my favorite Costner film is 'The Big Chill' (his wrists had a cameo.)

Funny how the article mentions that a movie bombing should make them (presumably the studio) think twice about hiring the actor again, but nowhere does it suggest that the studio should maybe consider not hiring the directors, producers, or writers again after a movie tanks at the box office. Nor does it suggest that maybe the studio should just stop making movies altogether.

More importantly, it uses Kevin Costner's string of crap movies as examples, but it fails to mention the fact that he has directed and/or produced many of the box office failures in which he has also starred since Dances With Wolves.

They also mention Travolta in Battlefield Earth and She's So Lovely, both of which he produced. Are you starting to see a pattern here?

I'd like to thank the submitter for not using the obligatory Hollywood is out of ideas line, although using stars past their prime does definitely fit the bill.

If Robert Duvall is in it, it's worth checking out.

in 1997 when he won best supporting actor for "Jerry Maguire," but has since made perplexing choices.

Hes throwing his career away making a fast buck, said Hoffman. 'Boat Trip' and 'Snow Dogs' were such embarrassments, he should fire his agent, fire his manager and go out and get a face lift.

I work with a lot of these agents (including Costner's) and I know for a fact Cuba Gooding's thanks to his agent for landing him Jerry Maguire was to fire his agent and go to a bigger agency, presumably land him better parts. Stars in Hollywood are so farking neurotic that they are a pain in the ass to deal with and are often their own worst enemies when it comes to picking material.

"Acting. No directing, no producing. Acting."

I think the trend of giving opportunities to washed up actors officially ended a few weeks ago. now the only name you need to attach to any project is Ashton Kutcher.

Anyone else do a double-take on the headline reading "whore" instead of "who're"?

I think "Tin Cup" is very good, but I guess even that one is pretty old.

He is hilariously bad at trying accents. See "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves." See Also "13 Days."

2003-08-11 03:43:34 PM
I agree, barneyfifesbullet, I'm looking forward to Open Range just because of Robert Duvall. Overall it might wind up being bad but I'm sure he'll be good.

2003-08-11 03:44:25 PM
One of my friends was just talking about how he didn't like Kevin Costner, but he liked a lot of movies he was in, like The Untouchables, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Thirteen Days, etc.
Goodfellas shoulda won the Oscar, not Dances With Wolves.

2003-08-11 03:44:36 PM
Stange, this Fox news article doesn't mention Arnold and his string of flops. Huh. Weird.

Two words - John Travolta.

"Open Range" is getting great reviews. I know this because I saw it on an "Open Range" commercial.

I did the same thing. I think maybe it was meant to look that way, as in "Actors=whores".

Can I get a ruling from one of you grammar nazis on whether "who're" is a valid contraction?

Thanks.

Am I the only one who liked Waterworld and Battlefield Earth?

2003-08-11 03:46:09 PM
And how many crappy movies has Arnold made?

MANY!! They should include him in that list. But wait, Arnold is a OK in their book as he's a a favorite for them. One can only guess why.

In a related story, Chris Griffin remains confused.

2003-08-11 03:47:11 PM
I dunno, I just don't think Waterworld was that bad of a movie.

C'mon, if you had to watch Waterworld or Caddyshack 2, which would it be?

Pollexabator

Yeah, no kidding. Can you say Kindergarden Cop?

2003-08-11 03:47:42 PM
I thought Waterworld was a pretty good flick. It was way over-long, though. They could have easily cut 30 minutes out of it and had the same end result.

2003-08-11 03:48:04 PM
Notorious Hard to believe that Scorsese lost so that the academy could give Oscars to Kevin Costner and Roman Polanski.

2003-08-11 03:48:32 PM
Open Range looks kick ass.
Costner is a strong supporter of Bush jizzmasterzero , so your Fox Republican conspiracy theory thing is a little off.

Cuba Gooding, Jr. needs to go back to his old agent... ever see Snow Dogs?

And on Costner, he just plays himself in every role. Every character is just him, except in a postman's outfit, a baseball uniform or a Navy uniform. For fark's sake, he didn't even attempt an accent in the most wretched Robin Hood remake ever (except for Brooks' Robin Hood: Men in Tights which was remarkably horrid).

2003-08-11 03:49:00 PM
Can anyone name a movie in which Al Pacino was in but did not scream, yell, raise his voice in any manner or become hysterical?

2003-08-11 03:49:20 PM
John Travolta, meanwhile, thrilled fans with his cool comeback in "Pulp Fiction," but has since wore out his welcome by taking part in such flops as Shes So Lovely and the much-maligned Battlefield Earth.

As an actor he has become lazy to some extent," Hoffman said. "He has to have a good script, he cant get away with being himself, like Schwarzenegger can.

Notice this paragaph. Arnold is mentioned. Apparently they think any good Arnold movie is a good movie.

2003-08-11 03:49:52 PM
And how many crappy movies has Arnold made?

MANY!!

And that, more than any other reason, is why I'm glad he's stopped making movies in favor of running for office.

"Vote for me, or I'll make The Last Action Hero II."

Oh, can't forget the wonderful revisionist history in Dances with Wolves either... makes me cringe.

'Actors like Costner "ride on the coattails of their one or two giant hits," said New York Post entertainment writer Bill Hoffman. "Studios are frightened to go out on a limb with people not known so they give these guys chance after chance."'

Fox kills me. Even their entertainment articles are inbred journalism.

2003-08-11 03:51:03 PM
OK, I can understand giving big-money movie rolls to actors who are "past their prime".

So can someone please explain Rob Schneider?

YES! My father, who read all of the Battlefield Earth books, and he hated the movie.

OT: As a rule, Kevin Costner makes me want to stab him in the skull with a scredriver. I felt this way ever since I saw "Thirteen Days." What a schmuck!

Waterworld the Gigli of its day was hammered by critics and became the butt of water-cooler jokes.

Thats a bit harsh, i'm not a fan of waterworld or anything but it wasn't that bad, and despite popular belief it did actually break even domestically and make money worldwide.

2003-08-11 03:51:19 PM
Seriously, Waterworld or Caddyshack 2?

Caddyshack 2 was THE worst sequel in the history or movies. Ishtar and Hudson Hawk were better movies! I'd rather see that car crash Gigli than Caddyshack 2. Jackie Mason should be ashamed.

2003-08-11 03:51:36 PM
he was paid 25-30 million for Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin

I'm definitely in the wrong business.
