I'm glad they're remaining civil, since it's more than I might be able to accomplish. I dream of hurling eggs and tomatoes at the guy ala Batman Returns.

Objectivism is almost a form of sociopathy, and the fact that he's pushing ahead with this nonsense is remarkably disturbing.

Of course the crowds are larger and more civil. People love to hear ideas that actually work, and will bring positive change to the broken medicare system. Obamacare was just wrongheaded and not supported by the Will of the Peopletm

FTA: Record crowds of supporters and opponents flooded town hall meetings throughout southeastern Wisconsin on Tuesday to hear Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) defend his plan to trim government spending - including controversial changes to the Medicare program.
Link (new window)

See, this is the problem. The Republican plan is not a plan to trim the deficit. The Republican plan actually adds $6 trillion to the deficit. Yet the media seriously intones, Ryan's plan is a way to cut the deficit.

The Republican plan is, first and foremost, to provide a permanent 30% tax cut to the wealthiest. Screwing working folks out of the programs they have paid into for decades is shiats and grins.

Then there will be another tax cut for the wealthy.

Le Grand Inquisitor: broken medicare system

What's "broken" about it? Seems to be working for a lot of people, and the cost (while rather high) is significantly less than what private companies are charging for the same thing.

I mean sure it could be better, but "broken"?

2011-04-27 09:23:51 PM
So is that why he had to leave surrounded by law enforcement in a different car when his was surrounded by protesters? And he cut it short because of hecklers? Oh, and this was in his backyard...

"The president, on the other hand, kind of does the opposite," he told a crowd of about 100 people at a morning town hall in Lake Geneva. "His new health care law ... puts a board in charge of cutting costs in Medicare."

As opposed to Ryan's plan, which cuts the value of medicare automatically. Oh, and cuts taxes for the rich enough that it adds 6 trillion to the deficit.

Almost? What would you call absolute selfishness and an utter disregard for other people?

sure.. and unlike a lot of other town halls, you have to present your ID at the door, sign a loyalty oath to the GOP, and register with the GOP if you havn't already

That is unless you are a plant, they you get to go in for free

Are we back to government death panels again?

Me personally I would rather take my chances with a government employee that might have a sliver of humanity than sit in front of the same guy that would " really like to help ya but I got numbers to hit and if I don't I will lose my job"

Profits ALWAYS trumps people in the private sector. When did we start to be fooled into thinking that a for profit business would care one bit about us?

They have pushed that view and spent a shiatload of money making people believe it.

There is of course a difference between health insurance and health care. You knew that, right? We have the best health care system but pretty shiatty access to that system.

IMO any universal healthcare needs to be amended into the Constitution. No "penumbras", no vague "general welfare" clause, and so no ambiguity. This also means that a 3/4 supermajority of states support such a measure, which makes it all the more secure.

Methods for Ratification: (new window)

*Proposal by convention of states, ratification by state conventions (never used)
*Proposal by convention of states, ratification by state legislatures (never used)

*Proposal by Congress, ratification by state conventions (used once)
*Proposal by Congress, ratification by state legislatures (used all other times)

The top two have never been used, but probably could be used for this purpose. Technically we don't even need Congress to approve new Amendments at all.

it will never happen. Universal healthcare on the national level is too much of a burden, and breaches the constitutional provisions for what the government is supposed to do. However, that said, I support individual states using their own resources to enact universal plans on the state level. Vermont is already working one such plan through their legislature.

I'll go with that, provided that Bill of Rights protections only apply to natural persons and that any other entity wanting elevation to (or above) that of natural personhood be required to do so through the Constitutional amendment process as well.

The only way we have the best health care system is simply because we have the best technology. On virtually every other measure, from iatrogenic medicine, to affordability of and access to care, from use of preventative care, to administrative overhead, from defensive medicine, to mortality statistics, we are damn near last in all of them.

Yes, giving a society's wealthiest members more at the expense of the poor is a fantastic idea... I'm amazed no one has tried that gem of an idea in the past. Imagine the Utopia we'd be living in.

So, conservatives rallied angrily and violently against Obamacare at town hall meetings, and liberals rallied civilly and peacefully against Ryan's plan to privatize Medicare at town hall meetings?

Isn't this just a case of the "duh?" was anybody expecting much different?

Oh wait, my reasoning is totally obliterated by two words: "union thug." Nevermind.
