Must have been famous in the time before the internet.

2003-08-10 12:08:14 PM
he had some short-lived sitcom ...but i mainly remember him as that guy who tap-danced. wow, though ... 57 is young

2003-08-10 12:08:41 PM
"Well, no offense, but maybe I need a little more instruction than just tappa-tappa-tappa."

"Running Scared" is a hilarious movie. Plus he was an amazing dancer.

/RIP

Very sad. Usually there's reports when someone so high-profile is sick. Quite a shock.

Unfortunately...he's not that 'high-profile' since he's not a big name pop star or an uber actor.

The fact that most people will say 'who' makes it even more a tradgey.

2003-08-10 12:13:00 PM
Truly a class act...Sorry he had to hang up his dancin' shoes so early...RIP,Mr Hines.

2003-08-10 12:13:42 PM
He must have kept his illness quiet. Very sad, indeed. He was a very talented actor and dancer.

2003-08-10 12:13:58 PM
I see we'll have to educate some of you young whippersnappers on who Gregory Hines is. Just click the picture below to find out more about him.

2003-08-10 12:16:59 PM
That was the biggest list of movies ive never seen. evar.

2003-08-10 12:18:59 PM
A true talent. He will be greatly missed in THIS household.

I saw him on Broadway as a guest in 'Bring In Da Noise...Bring In Da Funk' a few years ago and he was BRILLIANT !!

2003-08-10 12:19:24 PM
This has been a horrible summer for celebrities.

2003-08-10 12:20:29 PM
wonder what type of cancer, guess the publicist didn't say.

2003-08-10 12:20:34 PM
seems he just did a milk commercial or something... dude could dance.
Was he the slave guy in "history of the world" who got a woody when the girl was dancing?

2003-08-10 12:21:54 PM
The theme song to running scared is running through my head right now. Great 80s tune.

2003-08-10 12:24:31 PM
Very sad news indeed. Worthless shiatheads like J-Lo continue to live while people with real talent die.

The Roman Red scene from History of the World has to be the funniest thing I seen him do. That joint was almost the third of the size of a telephone pole.

2003-08-10 12:25:22 PM
I don't know which is sadder, the fact that a huge talent is gone, or the fact that people are asking "who"?

2003-08-10 12:25:46 PM
Spin_Doc: That was Michael MacDonald, right?

Anyway, I am also a bit remiss about this guy passing. He was a great actor and dancer, and I always enjoyed his work. He seemed like a really down to earth dude.

He even made Phil Collins' "Separate Lives" tollerable in "White Nights," as hard as that is to believe.

2003-08-10 12:26:29 PM
This is tragic.

I was making a list recently of all of the actors I wanted my son to see on stage (son is a budding actor)... and Gregory Hines was in the top 5 on the list.

Damn. Now I have to go tell my son about this tragedy.

/ugh. RIP Gregory Hines.

2003-08-10 12:27:37 PM
Wow, about 3 months ago I was waiting in line at the United counter at LAX and Mr. Hines was right in front of me. He looked fine, I guess that's the thing about cancer.

I loved History of the World: Part I

2003-08-10 12:28:08 PM

But after seeing what he looks like, he looks familiar. Never knew his name, nor do I remember where I've seen him before, but I've seen him before.

2003-08-10 12:31:58 PM
:(

2003-08-10 12:32:15 PM
I have Running Scared on dvd. loved it, it was the Bad Boys of its day.

You want flames, I got your flames!
/Deal of the Century

A class act for sure, an amazing talent. hope you get to work with Eubie and Scat Man at your new gig.

/missed

2003-08-10 12:37:10 PM
Billy Crystal murdered him

2003-08-10 12:40:55 PM
RIP Gregory, much to young to pass on.

He was an amazing dancer and also have a great signing voice.
He had a hit song with Luther Vandross in the 80's.
There's Nothing Better Than Love.

He was a cool dude.

2003-08-10 12:41:10 PM
I worked as his stand-in on a show for a while. Real nice guy, even to us "below the line" guys. Very talented, very classy, very sorely will he be missed.

I betcha he's up in heaven right now having a dance-off with Sammy Davis Jr. :)

And for those of you not familiar with Greg's work, look up the Ethiopian Shim-Sham.

2003-08-10 12:42:22 PM
Running Scared is one of the best cop buddy flicks ever. Ever.

One of my all time favorite actors/dancers. What an amazing talent. He'll be missed.

2003-08-10 12:45:28 PM

2003-08-10 12:45:30 PM
Very, very sad indeed...

2003-08-10 12:46:04 PM
Tap dancing is gay

2003-08-10 12:46:08 PM
To put one in for the "young whippersnappers", I'm 16 and must say that Gregory Hines amazed me like no other when it came to dancing and especially tap dancing. He had a natural talent that just radiated from him, and you could see he loved what he did.

The man truly lived an extraordinary life doing what he loved.

R.I.P Gregory.

2003-08-10 12:46:11 PM
ZippyChippy: I don't know which is sadder, the fact that a huge talent is gone, or the fact that people are asking "who"?

Look at the bright side. Some here may see the list of his movies, decide to check one out, and he may even garner a new fan or two.

2003-08-10 12:46:13 PM
bummer (grieves)

well that sucks

2003-08-10 12:46:46 PM
No word yet from family spokeman, Duncan Hines.

2003-08-10 12:47:26 PM

Who?

/not trying to offend anyone who recognizes the man

2003-08-10 12:47:39 PM
One of the dwindling number of people in entertainment that had talent. He will be missed.

2003-08-10 12:47:52 PM
