Hey, Sharks win a series. Imagine that. Really, though, they're lucky that Kopitar went down before the playoffs.

Your franchise is based off a Disney movie with Emilio Estevez. Even as a Carolina Panthers fan, I can say this is an embarrassment to professional sports.

I was really hoping the Kings would force game 7, so that I could have known the result of the Hawks/Canucks series first. Now I'd love the Sharks to beat the Hawks but I unfortunately need the Canucks to win for monetary reasons.

I'm avoiding the bars tonight, and watching the games from home.

Okay, let me rephrase. A major North American sports league has a franchise that was nothing more than a marketing stunt based off a mediocre kids movie.

It's a franchise, and a successful one. Someone had the money to start the franchise, and they did. It's better than all the crap they have going on in the South. They didn't steal any teams from real hockey cities to start the Ducks

Bigger game in the East tonight?

Boston @ Montreal

OR

Buffalo @ Philadelphia

Tough one for me. Game 7, win or go home for both teams, or a possible elimination game from Boston & Montreal following up on a Double OT butt-clencher.

Even though I'm a Boston fan, I have to go with Buffalo @ Philadelphia.

Luckily I'll be able to watch both without aide from internet streams.

There are a handful of players whose teams will never win the Stanley Cup with them as first line/core players of that team.

Joe Thornton is one of those players. He'll disappear as the pressure builds. Bank on it.

Others include Scott Hartnell, Mike Fisher, Marian Gaborik and Brendan Morrow.

He may never be on a Cup-winning team, but it won't be for lack of effort. Since the lockout, he has 25 pts in 42 playoff games (11 in 12 in the last 2 years), which is pretty much in line with (or above) his ~50 pts per season production plateau.

He was one of the only guys to show up against the Ducks (Alfie is the other), and he plays his ass off every night. Sure, I'm white knighting for a hockey player, but I'll defend his play any chance I get.

Porgi: You must have played for Team Iceland...

This is one of many, many things that made absolutely no sense to me about those movies, even while I was watching them as a kid. Iceland has never been known for hockey. Why not pick Norway, Sweden, or Finland? You know, Nordic countries that are actually good (okay, maybe not Norway) at hockey. Or even Russia? You know, get a little Miracle on Ice, Mark II action going? And second of all, how does a team go from winning a city league championship to becoming the Junior Olympic team? And then, in the weirdest plot twist of all, they go from winning the Junior Olympics to Junior Varsity at some prep academy. How on earth does that happen? You're supposedly the best in the country, beating the best from around the world, but you can't even win a spot on your high school team? If that's the case, then why didn't players from the high school team replaced you on the Junior Olympic team? Clearly, they're better at this, and would ostensibly do a better job representing the USA on an international level. Plus, who the hell did they beat in the Junior Olympics? Never mind the fact that the Junior WINTER Games are being held in LOS FRAKING ANGELES, IN THE SUMMER, but they beat the following powerhouse squads: Trinidad and Tobago, Italy, Germany, Russia (who beat Iceland, but lost to the US), and then Iceland. It's ridiculous. Frak the Mighty Ducks, Disney, Emilio Estevez, and Julie Gaffney. Why Julie Gaffney? Because she was hot, that's why.

/update: The actress who played her is also a chef, so that's pretty awesome.

GavinTheAlmighty: Ten points to Jonathan Quick, though. He was easily the best LA player

Sure, but this series was a microcosm of his two seasons as a starter: long stretches of brilliance punctuated by stretches where you think "Good god, this guy couldn't start for Canisius"*
He's streaky because his "throw your body all over the place" style can work but it's also easy for the opposition to exploit too.

* Picked at random from a list of NCAA Div. I hockey teams.

For the first time in a decade, I feel good about the direction the Kings are going in. Strengthen the 3rd and 4th lines, add some muscle on defense and they can make a real run in the next few years.

Boston @ Montreal

Go Habs! Pro-Canada and totally anti-Boston (see: Angels, Lakers)

Buffalo @ Philadelphia

Rooting for the Sabres, just because, but that could get ugly early

Oh, and one final time this season:

It's the same problem as the rest of the movies like that: the first movie is a classic, fun, enjoyable film. The studio then realizes that it can make a metric butt-ton of money off of sequels, regardless of how terrible said sequels are. And if they do things like "forget to pay for a script that makes sense," well, then that's less money they have to spend, and again, no one will care (Note: this does not apply to films that (a) had sequels planned coming in, or (b) are based off of books which had sequels). I'm hard-pressed to think of a movie whose unplanned sequel is worth anything, but maybe that's because I've only had one cup of coffee so far this morning.

Or, as Averman says in D2: "You guys wanna ease up a little bit? Just thought I'd ask"

PowerSlacker: bhcompy: Hey, Sharks win a series. Imagine that.

For the fifth time in six years.

Great flame attempt though. Really.

1. how many SCs in 6?
b. how many CCs in 6?
potato. how many of either since the franchise came about 22 seasons ago?

dude, it took you guys 6 games against a Kopitar-less Kings. where you also had to utilize bonus hockey to get 3 of your 4 wins...

The Sharks were disappointing, no argument here. The mess at goalie is a big concern.

Fortunately, the Wings don't get to start Round Two with a 2-0 series lead because they were so awesome against the Jets.

might as well be. 4th best team on the road. advantage wings. our away record is better than the sharks home record for 2010-11 season.

Should be an exciting night. I am a bit tired of all the "team X has never won a series after doing Y" bullshiat statistics the announcers throw around. Happens every year, but it seems especially thick this season.

/ 99% of posts starting with "should be an exciting night" end in the phrase "Go Bruins!"

The Sharks won 3 of 4 against the Wings this year, including both games at Robocop Arena. They also beat them in 5 games last year.

Not sure why you think it would be a cakewalk, the Sharks have handled Detroit well for a few seasons now. But whatever floats your boat.

last season was is a write-off due to the plague of injuries through the lockerroom. we werent even in the playoffs prior to the olympic break. taking 7 games to beat the yotes shows how "not right" the wings were.

I stand by my wings in 5. all 3 road games at HPP, and split at JLA.

Not to mention that we lost four one-goal games, with some memorably bad calls in there, and won a game 7-2.

This year's Sharks team does make me nervous though. Coming back from a four-goal deficit is impressive, and it was more the Sharks finding another gear than the Kings folding.

It is thoroughly unbelievable how much Wings fans whine about the officiating. At this point, there are simply no words to describe how pathetic it is.

That's whining? Or do you have a stereotype that has nothing to do with me or my comment and you're squinting to reinforce it in your head? I swear, any other fan can call out a ref on a bad call and nobody says anything, but when a Wings fan says something, it's another example of an entire fan-base being made up of whiners and conspiracy theorists.

So it's just a coincidence that Wings fans "say something" about the officiating in numbers exponentially greater than all other fans combined?

Wings' fans reputation for complaining is well deserved, and nothing I've seen in my lifetime, either at the stadium or on message boards, has done anything but cement that reputation.

/Got into hockey in 1992 at 9. Didn't want to learn a bunch of team history, so I chose the Sharks.
//Sadly, much like my Twins and Vikings, they suffer from random bouts of choking whenever it is least wanted. Those moments are called "Playoffs".

This is why 9-year olds shouldn't pick hockeyteams. You went with the kewlest logo-and TEAL!-Little Man. None of us Victoria Cougars fans can figure out why you were cowed by "team history".
NOW, if you were a TRUE student of Cali Shark Hockey History
