Go back to sleep, whiny Christians. You're not the only game in town.

How DO they maintain such a constant level of personal anguish?

Even a two-year-old will get tired of screaming and crying after a while.

Seeing as the first five comments ending with yours are mocking Christians I really don't see all that much Christian anguish. Perhaps you have it backwards and have something stuck up your butt. But feel free to paint all Christians the same color because of something you read on a website you never heard of before.

A really lousy way to spend Easter.

Perhaps they're waiting until Easter instead. Since it's rather silly to celebrate the brutal torture and death of a human being as 'good' Friday. How the fark would you even make a Google theme from that?

We should be thanking Christians every day.

If it wasn't for their sad devotion to that ancient religion, we wouldn't have so many days off from work.

2011-04-22 12:20:43 PM
Same thing on Yahoo.
It's okay though, Jesus will be around long after earth day is an ignored date.

*

Sadly, most worship the creation rather than the Creator.

Choose this day whom you will serve. (To not choose is to choose.)

*

I'm always surprised when these threads come up because I'm surprised people still actually go to Google's homepage.

*

Liberals only celebrate that which can destroy the US economy.

Earth day, yes let's not pollute the earth even though man on earth has the potential of polluting the earth like an amoeba has the potential of body slamming a whale. 5000 trillion metric tons of atmosphere 80 miles high, oh yes we can affect that. The percentage of CO2 is 0.04% which is zero point zero.

If we try hard enough running every car and factory 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the next 1000 years maybe we can get that level up to 0.05% which would still be zero point zero, because as we all know a level of zero point zero is extremely dangerous.

*

Why do they have to celebrate "Earth Day" today with a special graphic at all? Doing so on Good Friday is "insensitive" to billions of Christians worldwide. Google ought to be more considerate. The hypocrisy of liberalism is what's really on display.

*

"Let's say 10% of google users are christians. That means you're at risk that 90% of your customers might get disgruntled by your "good friday ad". So this is not such a good idea."

Right. The world has kicked Jesus out. Jesus is no longer a profitable idea. Google is only responding to market conditions. But "market conditions" is my point: the world doesn't think it needs Jesus ("I have need of nothing").

But even though He's been kicked out, Jesus in His mercy is knocking at the door. Soon, however, the world is going to see what it's REALLY like without God's help and it won't be a pretty picture.

And on the more reasonable flip side:

Umh ... google is a global company not a christian company. There are about 7 billion souls on this planet and only about 2.1 billions are christians. But all of googles global customers usually spend life on this planet. So i don't see any problem here.

2011-04-22 12:21:02 PM

Silvara: Perhaps they're waiting until Easter instead. Since it's rather silly to celebrate the brutal torture and death of a human being as 'good' Friday. How the fark would you even make a Google theme from that?

Exactly my question - odds are they're going to do a graphic for Easter, as they have so often done.

Granted, usually it goes for rabbits and eggs rather than some images of the passion, but... even if you were to put some image from the Easter story up there, people would find some reason to complain that it wasn't done respectfully enough or something similar.

It's just safer to ignore purely religious imagery.

Has Google done other HIGH religious holiday icons before? Depicting deities?

Though... if you were going to make a Good Friday icon (and what about Maundy Thursday? No love for it?) while trying to be bland enough and not actually putting Jesus in it, what would you do?

The cross, maybe? But how to work that into the Google logo? Heck, screw taste entirely and just have the full on crucifixion scene replacing the "l" or what?

Bottom line is surely they will have an Easter logo (at least in countries where it's a big holiday) and they think that suffices.

2011-04-22 12:36:07 PM
Yeah, I'm not quite sure it's appropriate for Google to celebrate a day when a guy was nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice and tolerant to each other for a change.

/With apologies to Douglas Adams.

I don't like it either, but Google can be anti-Christian if it wants. As long as it receives no taxpayer money of any kind.

Waaahhh, a worldwide search engine decided to honor a holiday related to Earth, waaaahhh.

The neocon persecution complex must be so hard to live with. They can't even wait for three days for their savior to come back and kick Google's ass to see what Google will do for Easter.

It amuses me how atheists will act when they die and are facing God, and then try to convince Him that He does not exist.

To be fair, a goodly amount of Passover was mixed in to make it more palatable for the converts.
