That is 36 flavors of Fail.

Yeah, that ad was .. well, it was basically just bad.

Relatively Obscure: Yeah, that ad was .. well, it was basically just bad.

the ryan plan to abolish medicare has handed the dems a silver bullet in the 2012 elections and they fire it in the air. unbelievable.

2011-04-20 04:58:14 PM

FlashHarry: unbelievable.

Unbelievable only because they fired it somewhere other their own foot.

BooBoo23: FlashHarry: unbelievable.

Unbelievable only because they fired it somewhere other their own foot.

frankly, i'm amazed they fired it at all. usually they're too timid. spineless, craven milquetoasts that they are.

2011-04-20 05:03:21 PM
Eh, it was only a first attempt. The Democrats HAVE to figure out that simpler is better as detailed in the headline. At least I hope so.

2011-04-20 05:04:06 PM
I knew they'd f*ck this up. Why? Because Democrats are FAILURES.

2011-04-20 05:09:17 PM
I don't belong to an organized political party.
I'm a democrat.

*sigh*

2011-04-20 05:10:55 PM
Democrats are experts at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I think it's deliberate, but I just can't figure out why. But they've done this crap too many times to blame it on incompetence or spinelessness.

2011-04-20 05:11:27 PM
Wow that was stupid.

2011-04-20 05:16:20 PM
I'm surprised the ad didn't feature 30 seconds of actuarial tables describing in vivid detail every nuance of the voucher system and how its effects will be felt across demographic strata.

When you need to win a reasoned debate, call a Democrat.
When you need to win an election, call a Republican.

2011-04-20 05:19:30 PM
they also need to get republican-style message discipline and simply call this "the republican plan to end medicare."

enough with the cutesy "reverse robin hood" bullshiat. it is THE REPUBLICAN PLAN TO END MEDICARE.

end of story.

2011-04-20 05:49:40 PM
Wow, something even us most strident of partisans can agree on. Uh oh.

2011-04-20 08:36:39 PM
Ah, the Democratic party. They'd find a way to lose a one-party election.

2011-04-20 08:51:16 PM

A Dark Evil Omen: Ah, the Democratic party. They'd find a way to lose a one-party election.

If the Democrats ruled a single-party fascist state, not only would it collapse in on itself in 3 years, it would manage to have such a bad sham election that it would be a completely fair popular vote.

Obama took them head on Medicare. They quickly called them on that shiat. Now they are trying to make them look like fools.

The ad is stupid but the important question is: is it sticky?

media.giantbomb.com

Using humour (even lame humour) can play that fear card right under the radar. You still need some direct and tough ads but these might have an effect on people, especially Conservative seniors.

2011-04-20 10:02:21 PM
*sighs*

Can we just get rid of them all now? Please?

\yes, all politicians need to go

Democrats = Idiots

Isn't about time to say fark you to political parties and start focusing on the country and not the special interests?

"Lord Protector Hussein Palpatine Soetoro has announced he will be stepping down this week, following the scandals surrounding the recent election. International observers have reported that in spite of widespread reports of fraud and voter suppression by the ruling Democratic Party, and the lack of any legal opposition on the ballots, Soetoro drew less than 1% of the vote. Sources within Soetoro's administration say that they accidentally put Ronald McDonald's name on a majority of the ballots issued as the only option rather than Soetoro's.

Spokespeople for McDonald's were unavailable for comment."

The Ad Industry probably got this one right. People say they want to be informed but they really don't. This is a joke they can repeat easily over the water cooler and will probably have more traction with a larger segment of the population.
Face it, Americans are disengaged. They expect not to be told the truth so they tune out. If they were paying attention, we wouldn't still be in a war that most of them couldn't explain us being in (without serious cognitive dissonance kicking in).

Anyone else notice the guy that did the voice over for the tagline was the guy that does "This Week In Baseball"?

Seriously subby? Are you trying to hurt Ryan's feelings?

2011-04-20 11:37:06 PM
It's a great ad - that's why all the GOP butt hurt.

If you don't ever actually want to win an election, but do want to sound super principled, yes.

NutWrench: Democrats are experts at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I swear, they're the pre-2009 New Orleans Saints of politics. Everything you need is right there on paper, but is executed by a bunch of numbnuts. The only thing about this ad that worked were the text shots. Cut it down to that, and you might have an on-point and persuasive ad. Maybe add a low, ominous cello note in the background or something.

Yeah, all it takes is someone suggesting that firing the silver bullet would be uncivil and they typically cave.

2011-04-20 11:40:10 PM
I just want to tell everyone I fap to this special breed of Demofail.

Try to remember this when you insist all the GOP are retards. You dumbfarks paid for this, then bragged on it.

2011-04-20 11:42:38 PM
I now associate the Republicans voting against Medicare with lulz, and Democrats with old people strip dancing. Nice job Dems!

2011-04-20 11:44:13 PM
just tell them "hey the Republicans are about to make you spend twice what you already spend on Medicare so they can give their fatcat buddies even bigger tax cuts than they have now"

2011-04-20 11:44:38 PM
Y'all are thinking like Democrats cause you are Democrats.
Your humor and viewpoint - they don't drive it home to today's Republicans.

This video will. Why? Because it's farking stupid and over the top.
Does that sound familiar to anyone else?!?

Don't be douche-bags. Just have fun with it and realize that the point of the message, while corny, is still true.

The thing that scares liberals, and here's what really keeps them up at night, is that their party would be nothing without Obama.

Their party's future (and "hope") rest in the decision-making abilities of one man.

That is how they truly fail and how in 1.5 or 5.5 years, they are going to be well and truly farked.

Well, said, sir! That's why I'm glad we have Palin.

Okay, I concede the point; Ted Kennedy probably did matter, a teeny tiny bit.

2011-04-20 11:56:21 PM
*Watches* Meh. Stupid and bad sure, but so are all political ads. Didn't seem egregious in either category to me. Maybe it'll sway and appeal to the seniors and other idiots who formulate their opinions and votes from 30 second ad spots?

Oysterman: I now associate the Republicans voting against Medicare with lulz, and Democrats with old people strip dancing. Nice job Dems!

Watched it with the sound off.

I was trying to fathom just why this was considered so terrible an ad, besides subby saying so that is.

You summed it up nicely.

Here's what the Democrats should do:

Agree than Medicare is out of control and develop a plan to fix it.

Pick any group of people that have a stake in a political outcome. Congratulations, you've created a "special interest".

Conflict among competing interests is not a flaw in our system, it's a fundamental aspect of its design.

Hmm... I'd open with a very dark black and white shot of a grandmotherly looking woman sitting in a rocking chair with the arms nearly worn through. She's watching C-SPAN on a flickery TV (the TV image is full color for contrast) with bent rabbit ears when Boehner gavels in the Republican End To Medicare Act. She sighs and sets down her knitting and walks to the bathroom. She pulls out a box with only a few vials labeled INSULIN left and sighs to herself, "How am I going to buy food and my medicine without Medicare?"

Screen fades to black, granny is now standing at the checkstand in a grocery store which looks like it belongs in a very poor neighborhood. A small rainbow of variously ethnic looking kids point and laugh as she buys can after can labeled in black-on-white: "DOG FOOD"

Fade to black. Fade in white text which the narrator reads.

This is the Republican Plan
For Your Future

The Republicans have had overwhelming control of Congress for 2010-2011, but it's the Democrats who have to do all the work?

Typical.

When you're talking to a baby, you talk like a baby.

When you're trying to talk to idiots, you gotta act like an idiot. Otherwise, they won't take you seriously.
