Alphax: When Karl Rove is calling you 'out there in the nutty right'.. fark it, I can't think of something that crazy.

Karl Rove helped start this mess by encouraging extremism during the Bush years. Karl's apparently now trying to stop the slide into madness but it's not that easy.

They will never squash the birther theories.

They can however marginalize them as kooks, but can the GOP do it without causing the schism in the party to widen?

kbronsito: The conspirators have brainwashed Brewer, Bachman, Pawlenty and the rest. But Trump's hair keeps the government signals out of his head.

Pawlenty has always been a lib. No true republican could come out of the north. I'm still confused about Bachmann, she sounded like she got it, but now I'm not sure. Brewer has just shown her true coward colors. I bet she'll give up on protecting America from the people trying to destroy it.

At a tea party rally Saturday in South Florida, Trump drew cheers as he repeatedly raised questions about Obama's origins. He also took aim at Rove, charging that the strategist worked for an administration whose struggles "gave us Obama."

Wow, Trump is good. Mr. Rove might have met his match in slinging bullshiat. I so hope Trump runs and wins the Republican nomination on pure "derp".

Easy. Just use the standard "I take the President at his word." It neither discredits the Birthers nor does it raise too many eyebrows from the Mainstream MSM Media. It's a complete cop out that gets you the benefit of the doubt from both sides, which is why pretty much all of the presumptive candidates have been using it.

ne2d: Didn't the birther thing start with Clinton?

To go along with subby's analogy: Clinton in this case would be the equivalent of Dr. Frankenstein's drinking buddy who turned to him one night and said "Hey, Franky, you think it's possible to make a new guy out of a bunch of dead guys?" And the bartender said, "You're cut off." And Frankenstein said, "Nah." Then everybody laughed it off and went home. Then Frankenstein made a pit stop at the graveyard.

brigid_fitch: SpinStopper: abb3w: SpinStopper: Circumcision record? What does THAT have to do with anything?

Jewish boys don't have baptismal records. See, they're not prejudiced against Jews.

What do either one of those have to do with where you're born?

Baptismal records have the date & place you were born. When my family moved from Jersey City to the Jersey Shore, they had lost my birth certificate in the move. When they needed to enroll me in the new school, they used my baptismal record rather than getting another copy. The school accepted it because it had all the required info.

... but a baptismal record is written up by some third-grade flunkout sitting in a random church basement. Why should anything they write be given legal weight and authority?

Well, the Jews could just actually keep records when they baptize their children. It's not exactly onerous to run off a document each time you baptize a baby.

At times I think maybe I should try to make a difference by getting involved in politicians. But when I see comments like this, I realize the only way to purge that level of dickishness is to nuke it all from orbit.

I realize most politicians are broken -- but Republicans seem highly desireous in raising the dysfunction to new and never-before-seen heights. And they're proud of it as well.

My only guess is that these stupid people think Muslims are different in every way from True Mericcans and therefore don't have circumcisions, despite the facts.

Yea, but he also said they are left wing and socialist. They spent a bunch of money, but they didn't do it for socialism or left wing ideals. You can make an argument they aren't true conservatives, but you can hardly make the argument they are true liberals.

I never understood it, either. Hell, my parents didn't even bother getting a copy of my BC until AFTER I'd passed my driving test. That means I was able to get a driving permit without it, so I'm guessing we still used my baptism record for that. I guess it was a different time then.

Cool story, sis: My father had also lost his BC when his mother enrolled him in school & they used his baptism record. All throughout his life--driver's license, passport, USAF, police academy, 25 years of NYPD, a few jobs as security officer in various places (one of which was at a college)--he never needed his birth certificate. He just kept piggy-backing off of the previous ID's like the DL & passport. Until he went for a corrections officer position in FL in the late 90s. They asked for his BC and, when he finally got a copy (first one in 60+ years), he realized his mother had changed his middle name in the 3 days since he had been born & when he was baptized. He'd been going by the wrong name his entire life. My brother was even named a Jr. after him, so now his name was wrong, too.

He finally ended up having it legally changed to what he'd been using his whole life.
