American Dream Pizza in Corvallis, OR. Stellar pizza made by stinky hippies.

i'd have to agree with the New York assessment. Lombardi's is super yummy. For a more authentic Italian pizza, I dig Lil' Frankies, though.

Dominicos is Pasadena. Bar none, this is the best Pizza ever...

Umm - why was the # of comments listed as pi for a second?

A little place, Anthony's Italian Restaurant, just off The Road to Nowhere, Bryson City, NC.

Great pizza where you'd never expect it.

So, my research tells me that pizza was invented in Italy, and the first American pizza place was in NY. BUT, pizza was sold by steet vendors in both NY and Chicago for decades before that...

So, NY can claim first all they want - the important thing is that Chicago perfected the art and is currently the best place to get a slice. Why bother looking up the other cities? - just check the Chi-town list for the best.

I'm not just talking about deep dish either, regular or thin crust is in there as well. I haven't seen the Jake's chain around Chicagoland mentioned. I always liked their thin crust. Crust crisp enough you can lift half a pie just by the edge.

What is NY pizza anyway, old syringes and tape-wads as topping?

What the hell is wrong with Papa Murphy's? The chicken and garlic is great. It comes in real handy for picky eaters - just tell them to make it half & half, and then there's no worrying about it being over or under cooked, because you're doing it yourself, and it's not frozen, so it has some taste..... Papa John's, on the other hand, sucks squirrel nuts.

RubberDuck

Always thought Myles was so much better the morning after... huge slices + lotsa grease killed me on more than one late night in BG

In the Seattle area, my #1 favorite right now is Flying Pie in Issaquah. Best sausage ever.

I miss Wallingford Pizza, they used to be #1 until an ownership change.

This is a waste of space. Like I'm going to fly to New York or LA or wherever to get a better pizza. And how do you prove it anyway? I guess you could all mail me a pizza and I'll compare.

Nah, probably kill me.

But at least this is a nice change from the "My religeon / political party / weener size is better than yours" threads.

I agree, Buffalo pizza is where is is at. Buffalo, NY pizza is not well known, but having had my fair share of New York City, Chicago and other locations' pizza I know it tops the list. If you have never tried it you are missing out. The best in Buffalo is Casillos Pizza & Subs located on 6348 Transit Rd Depew, NY 14043. Other pizzerias in town are great, but Casillos is the cream of the crop.

Pizza Mista, outside front gate Coleman Barracks, Mannheim Germany!

2003-08-08 01:47:28 PM
Giovanni's in Beaverton, OR makes good thick pizza, then again I'm biased because my brothers both work there. The thin is better(I ordered thin pizzas for my wedding reception!) BUT the best thing on their menu is by far the eggplant parmagiana sandwich...mmmm....

2003-08-08 01:47:29 PM
Pizza's a very personal taste. I've had pizza that some swore was the best which I didn't care for at all. I prefer mine with a thin, very well cooked crust, but lots of folks hate it that way. Also, I prefer it plain: sauce, cheese and no nothin'. In New York I like Two Boots, but other NYers will slam me for that I'm sure.

Fresca-Ce-Ca "Chicagoans, no offense, because I love you guys to bits, but your version of pizza is like a quiche with marinara."

You poor, deluded woman. May God have mercy on your heathen soul.

And to add to some previous comments, deep dish and stuffed are totally different types of pizza. And a calzone? That's more like a Cornish pasty -- no resemblance to a pizza.

2003-08-08 01:47:50 PM
P.S. -

I agree with Skaff on that Wallingford pizza - they kicked ass. Or was that "Brothers" in Wallingford.

You may flame me now for my hypocracy and spelling.

Brooklyn's in Tucson, AZ
And they deliver beer and smokes.

I am kinda not impressed by this citysearch artical. The #2 place here makes something almost exactly, but not quite completely, something most unlike good pizza.

It is sad because I like the place, but everyone I have taken there agrees there is no taste to half the food. A place that has not learned to use spices yet. Sad...

The "Cohen" family picks according to geographic location:

Home (Toronto) : Pizzaville (Markham location)

Florida (Palm Harbour) : Domino's

I'll throw in another mention for Momo's Pizza in Tallahassee, FL. So all you other Tallahassee Farkers (the remaining two or so), take note. ;)

stebain-

I left Dayton (UD) in '93 and don't remember Pisanello's being around then although there is one in Bowling Green. They used to have kickass white pizza.

Also worked at Cassano's in Dayton (Brown St. - now a BW3)for a year. Nasty pizza but probably because I ate it every day (free/stolen).

Re: Orlando

Whoever entered Pizza Hut and Papa John's should be shot.

I agree with all the others (tho not necessarily the order), and would replace the two chain store entries with Alfonso's Pizza and Dom's Pizza, both on Edgewater Drive.

And one more in Birmingham, and you are going to laugh at me. The closest to a perfect crust I've ever found is, get this, at the VA Hospital canteen. The sauce is from a bag, the cheese and toppings are cheap, but whoever is making the crust is doing it just right. It just about makes up for the rest of the pizza. Seriously, if I could get them to sell me just the unbaked crust, I'd take it home and put real toppings on it.

Besides, a decent sized slice and a large drink for $2.80.

You can't beat that.

troll material if I ever heard it... About as asinine as "which beer is the best?"

When visiting Atlanta, I recommend Il Fornicatorium. The special sauce is amazing.

2003-08-08 01:54:30 PM
I don't think I've ever had a slice in Buffalo I've liked. It's all wings and beef on weck. Only cheap place I can stand to eat is Amy's Place on Main.

2003-08-08 01:55:07 PM
As far as Phoenix goes, it's hard to say what's best, but I can easily say that Eatza Pizza is the worst here and likely anywhere else for that matter. Ewww.

Anyone down the Jersey Shore know's Mac and Manco's pizza is unbeatable. The best in the world. Second to nobody.

There's also a Two Boots on Bleeker.

2003-08-08 01:56:08 PM
That'd have to be Lou Malnati's, Pizzeria Uno (the real one), and Giordano's.

Cincinnati guy, guilt et al, I forgot about Deweys, but aren't they a chain from somewhere else?

2003-08-08 01:56:34 PM
Caio pizza in Newark, DE. The guys in there pretty much speak only Italian.

Every day 2 HUGE pies for $12.99.

They also have excellent pasta and subs, and cheesesteaks to die for (and from, considering how farking big they are!)

Tiramisu for dessert!

This little place called Gepettos around the corner from my house. (Mediterranean all the way, with spinach and artichokes...mmmm....) I didn't realize how much pizza I'd been ordering until I called one evening and I was greeted by name and the guy asked about my cat!

2003-08-08 01:58:15 PM
Contrary to Badger & Jackstan's opinions Anzi on Independence Blvd. has the best pizza in Charlotte, NC.
I favor NY style pies. Wolfman is ok if you California Pizza Kitchen/Wolfgang Puck style pies. Fuel Pizza, in my estimation, is just fair.

Hey Corporate Mofo

What's the place in Father Demo Square?
Very good pizza.

2003-08-08 01:59:22 PM
I like Rocco's (large stuffed=foor for a week) and Mama's in Tucson, but I'll have to try Z's and Brooklyn's. There's also a Rosati's, which, by way of coincidence, there's also a Rosati's in Aurora, IL, where I come from. Hmmm...

2003-08-08 01:59:26 PM
For some reason, I like Pizza Hut and Papa John's' pizza a lot.

I don't really "explore" for pizza places.

Chicago style pizza is the best.

Zachary's in Oakland/Berkeley is the best Chicago style outside of chicago.

2003-08-08 10:03:18 AM wow

I Love NY in Troy, ny. (just north of albany)

Troy has the worst pizza I have ever tasted in my life, outside of Pizza World and their 4 fish pizza in London.

If you want good pizza any non-chain place in NYC is good, especially if it looks like kind of dirty from the outside. The farther you get away from NYC the worse pizza gets until you get into Chicago. I think NYC is better but it's just a matter of preference between styles. They are the only real places that sell pizza.

And if you want to know how bad the pizza situation really is here in Tucson, Papa John's made #10.

--Deep dish and stuffed are not different types of pizza, they are quiche with marina, as I had said before.

And a calzone? That's more like a Cornish pasty -- no resemblance to a pizza."

--I never mentioned a calzone, what I had mentioned was a chicken roll (aka: the chicken shiat biatch from 7 Star in Hoboken). Calzone's are not meant to resemble a pizza, the same way your 'Chicago Deep Dish' is not meant to resemble a pizza.

Honestly...

Ohhh, and to the person who got offended about my Pappa Murphy's jab asking me what the hell was wrong with it, I pose to you this...Are you driving to KFC to go buy frozen chicken, or McDonalds to get your raw meet patties with all the fixins? OK then. It's jackass.

As a life-long resident of Atlanta, I'm sad to announce that the very best pizza in Atlanta can't even hold a candle to typical Chicago and New Yawk pizza.

Visiting those two places ruined me. I haven't had a bagel, pastrami sandwich or an honest-to-God-thick-as-your-arm pizza that good since.

2003-08-08 02:01:42 PM
Noone can beat Mama Santo's Pizza in Cleveland's Little Italy.
5 bucks gets you a large pie.
Sorry everyone, nice try though.
