Pepperoni and green olives as a kid.

Allergic to the shrooms, so can't partake. Never like the pineapples. In Buffalo, where I grew up, I used to get a chicken finger pie that was real good--chicken fingers drenched in hot sauce on a pie, with blue cheese to top it off. Weird sounding, but salivation-worthy.

Spinach, artichoke hearts and red onions is a fave now. Bacon is a good mix with that as well. Still, I'll mix and match something new everytime. Keeps it interesting. Then I'll go for a long bike ride around my neighborhood lakes (yes, I live in the land of 10,000 of them) to work off the grease.

Is anyone else really hungry right now?

All you Atlanta Farkers are forgetting Fellini's. Best pie in town, hands down.

I'm not a green olive fan, but I cannot resist black ones.

Also, my cousin's husband introduced me to Chipotle Tabasco sauce.
If you havent had it on a pizza, you might as well have never been born.

I wonder how a pizza with a curry sauce instead of italiano-tomato sauce would taste...
I'm guessing pretty yummy.
I hope my lady orders pizza tonight... Mmmm...

Baltika is pretty good, but I like the Polish beers.
Okocim, Lech, Zywiec.

The Polish beers are great, especially Zywiec. Too bad the Polish pizza is horrible. I mean, who else automatically serves pizza with ketchup as a topping? Sad to say that Pizza Hut had the best pizza when I was in Poland. Pizza Hut, likewise was the best pizza in France. Not only was it actually filling, but it didn't have an egg cooked in the middle of it.

Interesting enough, this thread is finally slowing down.

I do own a bottle of Chipotle Tabasco. Damn good---much tastier than the bland original. Still prefer good old Frank's Red Hot though--the classic, and what gave birth to Chicken Wings. Cholula is good on pizza as well. In fact, I have a lot of trouble NOT drenching pizza in hot sauce---growing up in Buffalo will do that to ya.

I hear ya. My girlfriend is making manicotti tonight--a specialty of hers that I do love. How do I tell her I'm in the mood for a pie...and not just hers, but one of the pizza variety?

Gianni's of Monterey, CA one block up from Cannery Row. All other locations are in Italy.

2003-08-08 04:05:42 PM
Nope...you guys have it all wrong :)
The best pizza in the world is Nicks Pizza, Wellsville Ohio. I could drink it in a milkshake it is so good. Members of my family drive HOURS to get it on the weekends. I am getting it overnighted to Las Vegas for my birthday in a few weeks. $80 for two sheets with mushrooms. Yes...it is MORE than worth it.

In a previous post I mentioned that I had an unbelievable pizza in Krakow, Poland. I was surprised as hell. It was at an Italian restaurant, though. Still, beat the hell out of anything I'd had in weeks backpacking through Eastern Europe. Like I said, go figure.

I brewed a Rauchbier with chipotle this summer,
and it was mighty tasty.

I also found out my lady is ordering pizza tonight,
and I know the perfect beer to go with it (see above.)

The thread is only slowing while people leave work and go have some pizza and beer.
It will be kicking again after they finish evaluating their meal.

Just for the hell of it, and I can't eat it anymore, but my all-time favorite pizza was pepperoni and jalepeno. Oh lord was that good but at my age no no no. Can't eat it. The pain! I do like pepperoni and mushroom these days. Or beef and jalapeno. But not pepperoni and jalapeno, oh lord, no, ow, aigh, eep!

Pie Works, in Greensboro & Winston-Salem, NC. My favorite is the hot dog pizza, minus the onions...

new york pizzeria in new berlin, ny. frank's pies are the shiat!

pepperoni, mushroom, bacon and green olive is always a solid combination, though its usually salty as hell!

Another vote for Myle's Pizza in Bowling Green, OH
Otherwise, any little pizza shop in NYC will do. Always go for the little shops.

anyone mention Little Stevie's on Boylston in Boston? The slices are bigger than your head, and you can get your drugs there too.

Giordanos -- THE authentic Chicago style pizza. Chicago. 'Nuff said.

2003-08-08 04:17:07 PM
Well Bukharin, I hope you live in a city with a decent pizza place. I can't even order anything except chain pizza for delivery. I have to drive to any of the somewhat-OK-as-long-as-you've-never-eaten-anything-else-in-any-other-city pizza places here in Minneapolis. Enjoy it tonight!

I know, crappy movie, but decent cameos.

Green Mill has consistantly ranked high in Twin Cities pizza ratings for years. Why? I think they bribe their way up the lists. Last time I tried to eat their pizza, it was like a slab of dough that was about 75% cooked, smeared with spiceless tomato paste and something that looked like it may have been cheese once, but it had no flavor. Before Green Mill, I never would have believed I'd be throwing away pizza when I was still hungry, no matter how bad it was. But this... was not pizza.

Webgrunt

I agree wholeheartedly. Tried it...once. Finished one slice and left. Green mill is terrible. The reason it's on the lists is because people have NO CLUE what good pizza is up here in MN. And the sauce has to be bland or flavorless or else people will complain! "It's too spicy! Waaahhh!"

If you are hard up,
try THIS

123Repeater

Try Al Capone's at the intersection of Broad and High streets in the financial district.

Errrr.....

TRY THIS

Hmm...not a bad idea...they make a good pie. But...I can get the King of All Pizzas, Bocce's Club from Buffalo, to deliver for 51 bucks, next day. I do it every birthday. Still, thanks for the suggestion.

What, no one from Portland OR here to represent? Okay, our pizza ain't the best but we got ALL the beer!

Nona Emilia's out on TV highway - In the outer burbs, but damn tasty thick crust. Be warned, they will fark up your toppings from time to time.

Escape from New York - So tasty, so cheap. Thin crust. Perfect after a night of putting up flyers for your crappy band down on 23rd.

Flying Pie - For your insane topping fix.

And, I'm sorry, I've been to NYC 3 times now and you guys must hide all the good pizza. At least in Manhattan.

2003-08-08 04:42:05 PM
why is albany, ny (where I'm from) on the list and not washington, dc (where I'm at now)? no justice in this world.

any mention of pizza hut (as in albany) is a disgrace... that's like saying mcdonalds makes the best cheeseburgers!

2003-08-08 04:43:19 PM
Other good U.S. beers that go good with U.S. pizza:

Anchor steam ale, Ipswich oatmeal stout, Brooklyn Chocolet stout

Unless you've eaten at Shakespeare's in Columbia, MO, (The original, not the one in the strip mall on the west end of town), you are not qualified to answer this question. You also haven't lived.

2003-08-08 04:45:14 PM
albany, ny

There is a pizza place near Bogart's ("Bogies") bar/music club. Not the best quality, but if you look at the price...

A fitting ratio.

Wow. I can't believe Regina's beat Santarpio's in the Boston area and was ranked 9th nationwide! This is purely a matter of name recognition, nothing else. Anyone who has ever tried a Santarpio's pizza knows there's nothing like it anywhere. Yes, I have stumbled up Thatcher street drunk at 3 am to get a slice at Regina's in the North End, but when you're that drunk anything tastes good.

Santarpio's is the best, hands down.

You forgot Fat Tire. Washes down pizza with the best of them.

A.V.'s Italian Ristorante in North West DC is the madness. whole place is only lit by candles. you must eat there if you ever go to the district. It's all in the sauce.

Alright all, especially Bukharin, it's been fun, but I'm off for the weekend.

May all your lives be filled with good pizza and beer.

You are absolutely right. The one near broadway is much newer I think. Isn't the one on Avenue A called 2 boots in the village? Haven't been there in a while.

You are quite lucky to live over there. Love that neighborhood. I work on Varick.

Fat Tire?
Where's it from? What style is it?

Oh well... Later Crapola...

Esposito's Italian Restaurant
- Fairfax, VA

Pizzarelli's (not sure if it's still there, near Carolina Place mall)
- Charlotte, NC

Tony's Pizza
- Virgina Beach, VA (near Holland Road/Independence Blvd)

Brick oven pizza (the kind that cooks for about 10 seconds) is hands down the best type in the world. Virtually every place I went to in Italy cooks pizza this way - absolutely the best.

Yep. Surprisingly, some of the best pizzas I have gotten in the country have been at places in northern MN like Vi's in Biwabik or Sven and Ole's in (I think) Two Harbors.

I know it doesn't make sense, but if you're ever up there try one of the mom & pop pizza shops, most of them rock!

Duh, mellowmushroom.com is obviously the best. (By the Homestar people.)

Colonial Pizza in Williamstown, MA has the hottest greek waitresses (but the pizza is cold and crappy.)

Not bad, better than Chicago Pizza (too salty),
but Giordanos is a little better.

Chicago Pizza is, however, open til 5am.

Ive never has PAT'S Pizza, but I was told it was good, albiet expensive.

In the Pasadena, CA area - definitely Petrillos....THE BEST!!!

A close second is the Eggplant Parmesan pizza from Alex De Peppe's in Arcadia..

Eggplant is one of my favourite toppings, one of my favourite foods even!

How did I forget to list it...
