For The Best Pizza Ever, goto:

1998, The "Pizza" Place, The Peir, Weirs Beach, Laconia, New Hampshire, USA.

Granted, this does require some sort of wayback machine... but still... I'm telling you, it was amazing. Only $1 a slice too.

Quiche is NOT pizza...

God.

The only good thing coming out of Janesville is Diamond Ted, Ink Slinger...Oh, and who could forget the Geraldo/KKK incident. Pleasant enough town, no pizza :(

I've never eaten at any gourmet pizza places, but if you want some GOOD pizza in Sacramento (and also many other italian foods) then go to Italian Brothers Pizza & Pasta.

It's pretty inexpensive, too. For example, 2 large 3 topping pizzas for about 15 bucks.

Too late. I learned the hard way. Surprisingly the pizza ain't bad in France, considering there's more Italian restaurants there then French ones...for obvious reasons. Also surprisingly, had an unbelievable pie in Krakow, Poland. Go figure.

You globe trotter, you...

Berlin also has a high Italian population, but they tend to cook pizza the American way, not the super-thin Italian way. (alas, not stuffed either.)

Also, the frozed supermarket pizza in Germany tastes wicked good, also like real pizza. I dont know whay they can do that elsewhere in the world.

Hmmm...can't remember if I had any pizza in Germany. Come to think of it...I can't remember much from Germany, after the first stein or two.

Alas, who knows why food can't be duplicated anywhere in the world. Why can't I get decent pizza here in Minneapolis? Why can't I get good wings outside of Buffalo? A good Philly cheese outside of Philly? A good Italian Beef outside of Chicago? Any good food period when I'm in California or Texas? Why, oh why?

New York Pizza in Hoover, AL

Actually, now that I think about it, I think it's in Homewood.

2003-08-08 03:00:46 PM
Dunno if they have it in the States, but in Canada, nothing beats Amato's.

2003-08-08 03:01:03 PM
I also recall in Minneapolis a place called Fat Lorenzo's. Not just awesome pizza with some of the best ingredients ever placed on a pie, but they also have homemade ice cream. That's right, homemade, churn-style, real good ice cream. The place is an instant coronary attack. Very good, very very good. Fat Lorenzo's. It's also near a lake so you could get a pie, ice cream and drinks and have a picnick. My ( fat ) girlfriend loved those days. Boy did she!

I'm partial to Franziskaner, but Dunkel will do as well...

Someone way above said Florida pizza sucks.

Sad, but true.

Many fine pizza joints in San Francisco. It's gotta be that fine, Sierra water, straight from Hetch Hetchy reservoir.

mmmmm.... Pizza

Fat Lorenzo's Craphola, Fat Lorenzo's. Simply awesome. You'll see. It's near lake Natoma or whatever that lake is called.

I'm just glad that Uno's didn't make it on the lists for Orlando.. they just opened a bunch of fancy restuarants in the more touristy areas and from what i've seen we've all scoffed at their $16/pie prices... Best pizza I've ever had is Spiccoli's in Valdosta, GA.. it's worth getting off the interstate for.

It is rare but... they brew a dunkle! It comes in a red bottle.
I found out when I was in Ecuador, after drinking local piss for weeks.
The discovery gave me a reason to live

It's damn good pizza, considering I ate school lunch pizza for 6 years. Consider me 'informed.'

Been to Fat Lorenzo's, done that. Ehh. It's pretty good as far as MPLS pies go...up there with Luce or Red Savoy's. It's go out of business in Chicago or on the East Coast.

Bungwipe's in Duck Butter MI - great eats!

For Sacramento, Round Table IS, and always WILL be, pure crap. One of the only reasons it rated is because so many kids at the schools buy round table personal pizzas for lunch so it becomes imprinted upon their fragile and weak little minds. Extremely expensive too. It's like 16 dollars for a large pepperoni!

Mountain Mike's definitely is the best i've ever had. It's more expensive than Round Table though.

If New York pizza sucks so much, why do I keep seeing New York type names on half of these places listed? Let us not forget the large Italian population of NY/NJ compared to the large Polish/Irish mix in Chicago....you are lucky that you dont get an upside down pie with some potatos on top. =P

And yes being from Illinois I spent alot of time in Chicago as a kid.

2003-08-08 03:09:16 PM
waitaminute...

Not in the least! Here in the 'burbs, Nancy's is easily the best pizza to be found, nestled amongst the Taco Huts/Pizza Bells and the Dominos... both of which serve nothing but large balls of grease masquerading as 'za.

"Big Time" in Fort Collins, CO. I swear they must put heroin in the sauce to make you addicted and keep you coming back for more.

Just moved out of Philly, Bertuccis in Center city is the best quality pizza. Like others said, Lorenzo's on South St is real good, but definitely low quality ingredients, but if you're hungry, who cares. Here in Miami, it would be PIOLA, in South Beach, better than any other place i've tried here in the US.

I've never eaten at any gourmet pizza places,

If a pizza place ever as 'gourmet' in the title, or claims to be, run! They put shiat like vegtables and other crap on their pizzas. They also try to keep the fat content under 500 grams. um no. I want my pizza greasy, loaded with meat (pref. bacon cooked with the pizza)And I want it to be cooked by some guy freshly off the boat.

2003-08-08 03:13:17 PM
I'll weigh in with Denver, too. Anthony's, quite good NY style. But, the best pizza in Denver is at 240 Union in Lakewood. Two of the best pizzas I've ever had were there. One was a pizza that had arugula and their rotisserie chicken with a BBQ sauce on it. I know, I know...but it was really good.

The other is their smoked salmon, avocado, tomato, sour cream, capers, and red onion pizza without the salmon (not needed in my opinion). You'd think it'd be awful, but it might just be my favorite pizza of all time.

Hey oneplugnickel,

Thank You! I posted about New Haven above, but these folks just don't know!

And Louis? Unbelievable. Gotta get me 2 Cheese works. I'll probably go this weekend (as I am heading to New Haven tomorrow).

People should know that Frank Sinatra used to send his driver to New Haven to pick up a pie from Sally's and have it driven back to New York. No Joke. Sally's is, by far, the best pizza in the World.

It used to get mentioned in Doonesbury pretty regularly, too.

And again: Chicago-style "pizza" is not pizza. It's really bad cake.

AliceInWonderland: Hell yeah! I think i've tried gourmet pizza once. It had olive oil on it!
I'd like to try a family size pepperoni, sausage, extra cheese, bacon, more cheese, more meats, etc. So much grease you need a roll of paper towels!

That is tuely the best beer to go with a stuffed pizza.

Frankies Pizza on the west side of cleveland has the best pizza. period. tried the a lot of pizza in my time, frankies is simply the best. i drive 8 hours to clevelnad a few times a year and always stop at frankies.

I dabbled a bit with it back in the day, but I haven't in a few years. Haven't the time these days. Luckily I've got a few good brewpubs near me that have an adventurous streak in them.

Still no good pizza though. Better than that of Petrograd, though. Still have relatives there. Poor souls.

Baltika is pretty good, but I like the Polish beers.
Okocim, Lech, Zywiec.

There is always Sam Smith's Imperial Stout
(A stout traditionally brewed for Russians by the Brits,
much much stronger than Irish stout.)

2003-08-08 03:29:38 PM
why is this thread turning into my personal love thread?

Because Pizza and Beer are more condusive to compromise that politics and religion.

In Negril Jamaica, you are missing out unless you go and get Tamboo Pizza...YUM. Cheese and tomato...GOOD GOD IT IS GOOD.

Nashvegas has Michaelangelos and Wild Oats and the rest is fodder.

2003-08-08 03:37:38 PM
Yes, if only the world revolved around pizza and beer. Think of how much simpler life would be.

And I laugh in the face of anyone who heralds Guinness. Likely they've never drank an Imperial Stout, or if they insist on sticking Irish, Murphy's.

I agree that Baltika is okay, but it's really a Nordic beer. Still tasty though, and I expect to see it more often in the States in years to come.

Just hang out in Slavic neighbourhoods, seek and ye shall find.

I prefer Murphy's over Guiness, however, I like beer with more body. Irish stouts are quite tastey, but very thin, if you know what I mean.

What Pizza toppings do you usually get?
I'm partial to the Spinach/Pineapple combo (bitter vs. sweet.)
However, I also like mushrooms to absorb the grease,
and artichoke hearts are excellent as well.

Tomatoes ALWAYS water down the pie.

fishwazin,

There is actually a Pizza Bobs in Gibraltar which is about 20 minutes south of Detroit. I have ate at the one in A2 which is also good, but I'm not sure if they are run by the same guy(probably not)
