Not the best, but Bizarro's is good for being a chain.

bump

I used to eat NY Pizza on Tate street all the time when I lived in G'boro - truly awesome thin crust pies and their sicilian isn't bad either.

Also, their steak and cheese is probably my favorite I've had anywhere.

When I first turned 21 we used to go there for $3 pitcher night. I'd go in with 5 bucks and walk out 5 hours later hammered. Damn I miss those days.

downstairs "The worst pizza in Chicago is better than the best pizza in any other city (*especially* New York)"

Amen to that.

Did I see Edwardo's on that list for Chicago's best pizza joints? Their stuffed pizza rawks.

Abilene? If not I didn't know there were any Mr. Gatti's anywhere else.

I like Mazzio's and Ken's, both small chains. East Texas

Sorry everone...

See what I mean?

Hideaway Pizza in Tulsa, OK (franchise started in Stillwater, OK) beats any pizza I've had on either coast (or Chicago for that matter).

2003-08-08 12:36:37 PM
I always feel bad for people in other parts of the country when I travel. NO one can make pizza like people in NY/NJ.

Which is ironic because whenever I travel to NJ I always feel sorry for the people that live there. NO one can make air smell like people in NJ.

Can anyone reccomend a good place in Champaign-Urbana? You'd think a big college town would have a good pizza place SOMEwhere.

2003-08-08 12:37:41 PM
Everybody's wrong.

I'm a Texan, so I'd love to try to take pride of place, but the world's best pizza is in Salida, Colorado. You can't miss it, it's the only pizza place in town... and it bar-none blows away anything I've ever had, anywhere else...

Amen, Darkhorse!!!

Benny Tudino's in Hoboken rocks.

There is no such thing as bad pizza.

Aggies in erie, pa.

Best ever!

2003-08-08 12:39:21 PM
For god's sake, no big giant prefab chain restaurants that you find in the Mall parking lot (Uno) should make the list at all.

2003-08-08 12:39:22 PM
Aztek-Slingshot- Orchard? No way. Smallbany's best is either Sovrano's or the Madison Grill, although the Purple Pub is excellent as well (Rensselaer).
There is something in the water that makes Buffalonians think their pizaza is any good in any way.
/been here 12 years, has never had a good piece of pizza.

Skile's Bar - Holland, MI

2003-08-08 12:39:53 PM
NJ/NY pizza definately the best. Possible reason, Lou Piancone of Roma Foods. 90% of the pizza places get their stuff from him. I still like Enzo's in Brick. Better than the postage stamp thin stuff from "Pete and Elda's"

2003-08-08 12:39:55 PM
Papa Dels, Champaign Urbana Illinois.

Sicilian style.

Where is the best pizza in the US?

Chicago - hands down.

No way! Ann Arbor's best has to be either New York Pizza Depot for sheer size and greasiness, plus they have the pizza with mostaciolli on it.

Or In & Out for the super dank $1 slices at 3am.

Ah! My mistake! I was confusing "best" to mean "quality". No wonder all these people keep bringing up New York pizza like it wasn't an oxymoron! Thanks for clearing that up.

Pepe's, New Haven

Pinocchio...Harvard Square...Cambridge, MA

Game Over.

2003-08-08 12:41:31 PM
They mention Hartford and forget about New Haven??????

New Haven: Pepe's, Sally's, Modern
Hartford area: First & Last Tavern, Harry's, Randy's Wooster Street (Randy's is a rip-off of New Haven-style)

2003-08-08 12:41:32 PM
Also form Albany I wouls have to say Ralphs Tavern on Central ave and Sovranos on N.Lake were great, until they raised the 1$ slice to 1.50. I geo laid for the first time after I brought a chick there. She was so impressed.

2003-08-08 12:41:42 PM
I was never impressed with Star Pizza in Houston. I just thought they had soggy pizza that they tried to cram too many toppings onto.

2003-08-08 12:41:47 PM
I hate this bullshiat link. You think you're gonna go to a real page that shows a year long study and some cool results and it's this crap. Same thing with margaritas and other bullshiat. fark them, I hate them so much.

I think that the key to chicago pizza is that, as a tourist, you have the urge to go to a place that you've heard about (Lou Malnati's, Giordanos etc) RESIST THAT URGE!!!! Anywhere in chicago and suburbs (Chicagoland) you can stumble into a place that is 1,000 times better than any of the bigger touristy places. I have several places that I like depending on where I am in the city. That being said:

Pequods on Clybourn

Aurelios

Home Run Inn

Caponies (near Norridge I think.)

Barnaby's (Niles. Really thin crust, square slices)

I used to date someone from St. Louis and got addicted to Imo's. We broke up and I miss Imo's most....do they deliver to Chicago?

2003-08-08 12:42:20 PM
Columbia, MO

1) Shakespeare's
2) Gumby's
3) Everything else

Sorrentos in Pearl River NY, best pizza outside little Italy

2003-08-08 12:42:31 PM
Why do you NYCers even call it pizza when you eat it like a sandwich? You might convince me by calling it pizza-flavored flatbread, but that's about it.

Uno's and Due's are but an example, and prolly the only thing a tourist like you folks from NYC are going to go to...so if you're gonna stop at one of the more well known places, you could do worse than Uno's or Due's...Giardano's, for instance.

I do have to agree with chickensocks, Piazano's does make a really good pizza. Great crust, great ingredients, etc. The fact that I can walk out my door and grab one in a matter of minutes doesn't hurt its rep in my book either...

I'm also a big favorite of a place called Renaldi's here in Chicago...they make this pizza they call Spingone (spin-gee-own-ee). They've trademarked the name for some reason...anyways...I'm curious to know if anyone has ever had it...it's not as good as Piazano's or Uno's...but comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges...different pizzas completely.

Oflinkey

Stop ordering from Domino's then.

Seriously, I've never, ever heard anyone who's ever sampled pizza in Buffalo claim that's it's anything short of heaven-sent. You need to have your head-examined.

Please shoot yourself.

gattis, indeed. you should be ashamed. If you dont know poopoo about pizza, you will be resigned to poo poo pizzas.

unless you were being sarcastic, and we can only hope this is the case, in which case, all is forgiven.

The Venus Cafe - Whitman, Ma and Cape Cod Cafe - Brockton, Ma need mention if you want what we call bar room pizza. The Town Spa and The Lynwood is definately good stuff.

Bocce Club is among the best. I also like Imperial, and there's a local joint near where I lived called Carbone's that's good too. And Diva's was good too.

La Nova went downhill in recent years, alas. And the big chain, Avenue, has good fingers but the pizza's just so-so.

2003-08-08 12:43:49 PM
Attlio's, a little one in my home town but as far as franchise it's Stuff Crust but Papa John's garlic butter makes it almost even.

2003-08-08 12:43:59 PM
Hooray for Two Boots in NYC. One of the very, very few places that regularly offer a variety of stuff on a white pie.

2003-08-08 12:44:23 PM
Mackie's Pizza - Harrisburg, IL...best thin crust and reason enough to go back to that backwards part of the state.

As far as NJ, I dont think I have had a bad pie yet so its hard to come up with a good pizza place here.

There are only 3 kinds of pizza:

1. Chicago Pizza which is divine

2. Poor imitations that I will still eat

3. California pizza. Tastes like vomit
ANy pizza that features things that your
mother used to make you eat instead of
dessert is wrong on so many levels.

2003-08-08 12:44:51 PM
Gumby's for pizza? It's all about the pokey sticks.

In Cincinnati,
Independent parlors:
ZZ's Pizza - interseting stuff, good bar, great date place
Pomodori's - wood baked, and close to where I work
read about em:
http://www.citybeat.com/2002-05-16/diner.shtml

Chain, hands down, Cincinnati's own LaRosa's
Curiously sweet sauce, sqaure sliced large pizzas, pepperoni always under the cheese.
and you can order on-line:

Death-rayy - What a choice, huh? Icelandic nutjob or animal covered in its own spit. Must be the eyes.

Marions Pizza in Dayton, OH. If you are ever there, this will be the highlight of your visit to Dayton.

I can't believe I didn't farking think of Marion's! I lived within 3 miles of one for 10 years. We go there every time we're in town. Unbelievable stuff. If pizza is like sex (even when it's bad, it's good), then Marion's is like a threeway with [insert reader's ultimate participants of choice].
