Weekend at Bernie's meets Police Academy. Hell's gates are now fully open. The moon shall become as sackcloth, the rivers as blood.

2003-08-07 03:04:57 PM
Yes, let's let drunks sleep it off while slumped over the wheel.

2003-08-07 04:30:36 PM
I'm totally surprised it didn't happen here in NYC.

2003-08-07 06:28:19 PM
I didn't know the parking penalties were so stiff.

At least it wasn't like that other article on Fark.com earlier this year where some guy was shot in the head and the guy gave him a ticket.

2003-08-07 06:40:40 PM
They should hook him up with the dead woman in the previous link.

Yay! It's cadaver day on Fark!

"A council spokesman said the incident had distressed the parking officer who had been offered counselling."

Why doesn't he cry about it.

He was just having what Raymond Chandler called "The Big Sleep".

"A council spokesman said the incident had distressed the parking officer who had been offered counselling."

I didn't realize parking police had souls. They'd ticket a one legged war vet parked in the handicapped zone if he forgot his sticker.

2003-08-07 06:56:25 PM
Asinine? What are parking attendants supposed to break in the windows and check for a pulse before issueing tickets?

2003-08-07 06:58:20 PM

Who gets his car?

2003-08-07 07:02:12 PM
If the parking attendent thought the guy was drunk and just sleeping it off, should she had tried to wake him up and bring him to the police station? last time i checked it was illegal to drive while intoxicated. i dunno just me

2003-08-07 07:03:51 PM
i can easily see myseelf doing something like this

2003-08-07 07:05:33 PM
This is just dead wrong.

Ambulance officers were called to the scene? What the hell is an ambulance officer?

They're called EMS workers, folks.

Not in Melbourne, Australia.

2003-08-07 07:22:54 PM
hell, if I was that guy, I wouldn't pay the fine. screw the ticket... that's what i say.

2003-08-07 07:34:48 PM
you have the right to remain silent

No, they're the ones that give you a ticket for being dead.

2003-08-07 07:55:31 PM
Question: is being dead a handicap?

2003-08-07 08:08:21 PM
They'll still be after him to pay this ticket for years to come.

2003-08-07 08:11:07 PM
Actually, they are called Council Enforcement Officers. They have the power to give parking tickets and to make buskers 'move on'.

They are so tough in Melbourne, it gets absurd. I once saw a tow truck get ticketed while the tow truck driver was getting ready to tow an illegally parked car.

However, this story reeks of urban legend....
(off to check snopes)

2003-08-07 08:14:23 PM
This happened in the town where I went to college several years ago. The guy had several tickets by the time he was discovered in the back of his jeep. "The official explanation was he choked on vomit."

2003-08-07 08:21:52 PM
I've seen dead bodies. Sometimes they REALLY look like they're sleeping...

2003-08-07 08:23:12 PM
I think the parking attendant deserves to be shaken up for not attempting to wake the guy and tell him he was about to get a ticket, what ever happened to decent law enforcers?
I secretly wish it had been here in the US and the family of the driver sued the local Police Department for negligence and won....but then my taxes would be higher...FARK!

Last St. Patty's Day, me and a few friends went to Philly to see the Bosstones and the Tossers. Along the way, we walked past a beat-up Chevy "parked" (on it's side) on the sidewalk under an bridge with the tires, wheels, bumpers and front left side door missing. It also had 20+ fresh parking tickets (Fresh as in tickets written with a month of March 17) attached to the windshield as well as some tickets dating back to late 2001.

2003-08-07 08:43:40 PM
Sounds like something West Allis police would do.

2003-08-07 08:56:07 PM
My brother had his car stolen in Boston. The cops finally found it when they were about to tow it for double digit worth of parking tickets, all issued after it was reported stolen. Then it took a huge fight to get it released to him without paying all the tickets issued after he had reported it stolen.

2003-08-07 08:56:14 PM
Parking enforcement people have to put up with a lot: screaming, threatening, profanity - just to name a few. I understand that they have a job to do. And obviously it didn't make a difference to the corpse.

Rodman Clay, sounds like you're a part of the Lawyer elite. Negligence? What about the dead person's responsibility to the rest of society? Does the Police department get the right to sue the family of the deceased for leaving a dead body unburied in a public place?

The age of Lawyers is coming to an end! Our founding fathers were very suspicious of what lawyers would do to the nation if left to their own devices, rightfully so, it would seem.

"I secretly wish it had been here in the US and the family of the driver sued the local Police Department for negligence and won....but then my taxes would be higher...FARK!"

How?!?!?! The man was already dead. The officer just didn't realize it. I don't think this was asinine at all. If a guy is slumped over the wheel, the only way to really tell if he is dead is to take a close look, unless he is really decomposed.

2003-08-07 09:33:33 PM
Moral of the story: If you are drunk, don't park your car and sleep it off - you will get a parking ticket. Better just drive it home.

2003-08-07 09:51:48 PM
so the guy was an asshat for giving him a ticket when he thought he was passed out, and a dumbshiat for ticketing a dead guy
typical cop

Conversely, if the driver had been drunk and asleep, and the parking officer tried to give a ticket to him, the lefties of the world would be chanting to have let the drunkard sleep it off in peace.

Melb's my home town, people here go nuts when they get a fine for doing something they know they shouldnt have (parking fines, speeding tickets). The parking officer was right to not "wake him up", these dorks who cry about getting caught are getting more and more violent, and its just not worth getting stabbed/shot for doing a job.

2003-08-08 03:57:11 AM
Melbourne rocks. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

/lying.
