Hey, when your family is dead, you have no workplace to go to anymore, your house has no power if you had a house left, you have no food to eat, and your animals are all washed away then you have plenty of time to sit around on the rubble and spend days hand writing thousands of copies of a newspaper.

And historical at that:
LIKELY NSFW

(might be woodcut, can't remember)

But seriously, that's pretty awesome dedication to the job and the public trust as a news agency.

Barium is not a radioactive substance.

Iodine-131 is, and my wife swallowed a large amount of it a few years ago.

/She was neither black, nor handwritten at at the time.
//Wife was literally 'hot' for a couple of weeks.

You do not get contaminated with "radiation".

Radiation can irradiate something - and if that something is on/ in you - then you are contaminated.

Radiation is wave energy. A contaminated object can emmit radiation however.

BrotherMalcolm: You do not get contaminated with "radiation".

Meh, if it's neutron radiation (rare, but not impossible with a reactor accident) then it can actually "activate" normal objects that were not previously radioactive. E.g., Co-59 (not radioactive) + n --> Co-60 (very radioactive).

It's an extremely usual/rare thing to occur by accident, but neutron activation does occur, and neutron activation analysis is a commonly used analytical technique.
