So I looked it up and it's closer than I thought. I worked in that area and lived in the city and it always felt further away. 12 miles, 1 hour in traffic.

Ugh, I got tired of it around Rutgers showing up. Even though the old time speech was sort of funny.

While on one level I have to object to making Otto a retárd, that was pretty funny.

I especially liked the frog thing telling him that he'll show him how Big East football is played - in Fort Worth.

Big East football should be forced to change its name to reflect post expansion realities. I'm thinking "TCU and its biatches" will accurately reflect the conference for years to come.

USF doesn't even have their own stadium. Sure, tailgating is fun at an NFL stadium I'm sure, but it doesn't beat the atmosphere of, you know, tailgating on your own campus. I went to UF/FSU and I've tailgated with friends at every FL school, Tennessee and TX... UCF was pretty f*ckin fun.

LOLWUT YOURSELF.

Pitt doesn't have their own stadium. And while it may suck some atmosphere out of the college game, it is a nice bargaining chip to lure players who would like to be played to pay in stadiums like that.

How to fix the Big East:

1) Nuke all the small basketball only schools (GTown, 'Nova, St. John's, DePaul, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall). While you'll get the occasional Final Four run out of this group, none have been consistent national powers since the 1980's.

2) Tell Notre Dame to sh*t or get off the pot regarding football. They have no right to whine that the Big East would dilute their schedule and turn around and play the likes of San Diego State, Nevada, and Western Michigan. If they don't want to be a full fledged member they can go off on their own and watch their basketball program slide into complete obscurity. And you just know that if the BCS revoked ND's "special status" ND would become a full fledged BE member faster than you could say Touchdown Jesus.

3) With TCU joining, the BE is up to 9 football teams, so adding one more makes sense (assuming Notre Dame doesn't join). Getting BC back would be a possibility since they haven't done squat in the ACC, travel costs have to be pretty high and there aren't any real rivalries. But I doubt they'd leave. You could certainly poach someone from CUSA or the MAC. I'm guessing Houston or UCF for the TV exposure.

So there you'd have a 10-team league with football teams like West Virginia, TCU, South Florida, and maybe even Notre Dame. On the basketball side you'd have UConn, Louisville, and Pitt. With none of the burden of schools like Seton Hall or Providence. OK, maybe not the PAC10 or the SEC but a solid conference nonetheless.

Starting from the day when I'm dictator, each program which currently doesn't have their own stadium will have five full seasons to rectify their situation. If you can't build a stadium and also have a minimum average of 35,000 paying spectators for your final season, you're done. Cincy, I'm looking at you.

Everything containing logos of your team will be tossed into a massive bonfire, including anybody who happens to be wearing such a logo.

These are harsh measures, but they will not be undertaken lightly. The reason is that college football is about atmosphere, you don't get that crap by playing in an NFL stadium or something your AD found in a box of Captain Crunch. You will adhere to the new set of rules or you do not survive, you will not have a choice.

Cincinnati did average 35k last year, and I vaguely remember hearing about plans to expand Nippert. Whether they can keep that up now that Brian Kelley is gone is another story.

I was up there for a week. Stayed 2-3 miles form Nova, and went to the city a few times.
1. the public transportation was horrible
2. the traffic was even worse, even at noon on a sunday
3. it was more fun to stay where i was than go into the city

MogKupo: Cincinnati did average 35k last year, and I vaguely remember hearing about plans to expand Nippert. Whether they can keep that up now that Brian Kelley is gone is another story.

Well, shiat, color me surprised. Looked it up and the NCAA has their average attendance as "35,067" but a Cincy site has their record capacity as "35,106." I don't remember if they played games at the Bengals' place last year or not but I know they seem to play one or two a year there. Soooooooo, unless just about every single seat for every Cincy game at Nippert was occupied last year and they aren't counting free tickets they give homeless people for the NFL team's place which helps out their true piss poor average attendance at Nippert, I'm calling bullshiat somewhere.

There was a Cincy game on a Saturday night on ABC last season, pretty sure it was last season at least. Either last season or the year before, but I digress on that and blah blah blah. The place looked like a farking ghost town, I'm not a Cincy fan in the least and even I felt sorry that on their big night, nobody showed up. Their rinky dink stadium looked empty, not really of course but the amount of empty seats were not small in number.

What I'm getting at is that the average attendance number that the NCAA has for Cincy is garbage. I don't care what the reported number is because it isn't true. Maybe it is the number of tickets given away but it isn't the number of people actually there and it sure as hell is nowhere near the number of people who actually showed up and paid to get in.

Gah. I've spent more than thirty seconds thinking about Cincy football. I feel so farking dirty. Here, here is your reward for causing me to lose my mind.

Yeah, WVU is supposed to play at Paul Brown this year. Fine by me since it's a stadium I haven't been to. Not to mention Cincy's campus is a pain to get in/out of, and if you take one wrong turn off campus, it gets freakin' scary.

That Louisville game was awesome- the best comeback I've witnessed in person, and the game where Pat White and Steve Slaton first made their names.

BE would be stupid to not invite UCF for all sports.

Two Florida schools would help recruiting for all BE members. Every BE school can go into a Florida HS players home...and guarantee his momma will see him play nearby at least once per year.

That abandoned air force base in Tampa probably will keep UCF out of the BE. Their football and basketball is already lower par than UCF. And, the BE can bring in a Florida school that does not have to Rent-A-Stadium

2011-04-14 08:30:17 PM
I disagree with the recruiting aspect totally. There are too many recruits in Florida to go to the major DI schools- some will have to leave the state regardless. Adding a 5th BCS school to the state would only encourage several of them to stay home, when they my have gone to a Big East school otherwise. I doubt that two extra games close to home over the course of four years would be a major factor in a recruit's decision.

Financially, I don't see how UCF (or any available team for that matter) would bring enough revenue to the conference for the other teams to break even, let alone increase their annual share.

If you could step away from you homerism for a moment you might see how none of that^ made any sense.

No recruit is going to care about an extra game or two vs. going to the best place possible form him to play.

Maybe UCF has a better basketball and possibly even football team than SoFLA but the fact is you were beaten to the punch in the quest to join a BCS conference by the "former Air Force base".

As for the rent-a-stadium quip, I think UCF has a wonderful field but Raymond James, NFL house or not, is several orders of magnitude greater than UCF's cute little home in most ways imageable. Oh and don't cheap shot some other school's stadium as a rental when your own sold out it's name before it was even built ya Bright House fanboy.

The bottm line is that UCF, excellent school as it is, offers nothing to any major BCS conference. It is not a nationally followed school in sports and unless the Big IIX, Pac 12 or Big 10(12) decide to expand far outside their regions, it does not offer any market expansion possibilities. The ACC, Big East and SEC already have footholds in the Florida market so UCF, as things currently stand, offers no reason for an established conferenceto split it's revenue pie by an extra share just to add it to their mix.

It sucks for the school but that's the way it goes
