He's shooting on Red cameras, all digital. Kodak would be thrilled if Kubrick shot 48fps on film though.

48 feet per second? What did he shoot it with, a rock?

You get used to this new look very quickly and it becomes a much more lifelike and comfortable viewing experience. It's similar to the moment when vinyl records were supplanted by digital CDs.

Yeah, not the best choice of analogies there, Peter.

When shooting Hobbits, you need to remember to aim low, as they are short.

Yeah. And I remember when 75mm was the new standard that would revolutionize movies.

Then digital projection.

Then 3D.

Look, I don't care what you film it on. Just make the damn movie!

Forty-eight farts per shiat is probably too many farts and not enough shiats for a guy that big. If I was that blocked up, I might shoot a hobbit too.

I was shocked in listening to the commentary on the Facebook Movie DVD to find out that Fincher does an absurd number of takes, including 99 takes of the opening scenes.

Checking the specs, I now see that he shot the whole thing on DV, which is how he works so cheap.

If Kubrick had lived into the digital age, he wouldn't have finished another film.

Release the damned extended edition bluray trilogy already, I don't care about the hobbit. Well I do care about the Hobbit but first I need to subject my girlfriend to watching all 12 hours or whatever that trilogy is.

Actually, digital projection is the only thing that made my movie experience noticeably different. It is quite possible that the only reason I really noticed was because the trailers shown before the movie was not digitally projected.

Yeah but that is back before he fell in with the hipsters, back then he was just a regular guy who would buy you a beer and a smoke if you were down on your luck.

This is a very good thing. The poor frame rates used for movies these days is really inexcusable. I watched "Hanna" this weekend, and it was really obnoxious when the background in a panning shot would seem to skip along. It pulls me right out of the movie.

Yes, I am. But, in your time, the project is complete, just awaiting distribution, so no conflict with The Hobbit. Also, The Hobbit is quite a good film, but I will say no more. Don't want to spoil it for you.

Did they ever find a successful vehicle for Ellen Cleghorne?

Like everyone else, I had doubts when I heard that she'd been cast as Black Panther, but damn, if she wasn't amazing.

I just came in to tell you guys I don't give two shiats about 3D or frame rates or any of that stuff. If it's good, it would be good on super 8. And if it sucks it'll suck just no matter the frame rate. Thanks.

Yes, she now drives a 9th generation Prius. Also, she actually looks pretty good after her recent full body transplant.

More filmmakers need to start doing this, fast panning scenes can be noticeably choppy at 24 fps.

No. The Neo-GOP banned sandwiches altogether after first trying to see if they would float and then burning piles of them around a stake. They were an affront to God or some such thing. It was a strange time.

Vinyl -> Analog
CDs -> Digital

I'd say it's a perfect analogy. Other than the fact that I, like a lot of other people, still prefer vinyl.

/Though, me, sorta for the full-size album art.

I wish Kirk Cameron would've shot Avatar, 48fps.

Since it's being shot at a higher frame-rate, will it take more to light?

I once saw a theatrical presentation of 2001: A Space Odyssey on an original 70mm print. stoned to bejeesus. Easily the most fulfilling movie experience of my lifetime.

You could see the individual hair follicles clearly on the tapir, during the Age of Man sequence. (in fact... it was almost too clear... The men in the monkey suits were too exposed and looked faker than what you're used to).
